After reading the reviews i decided to hire him and we set a time. He arrived on time and began to set up. Inspecring the attic and ac components actually giving me ideas on what to repair later or on my own. He then began to work deodorizing and cleaning the vents. I was skeptable about the process but after he was done it really worked. The house was cooler the vents were cleaner and blew much stronger. Im definatelt going to recommend him to other family and friends ans ill use him again on other projects.

Yalel did an excellent job replacing my thermostat! He replied to emails and texts promptly. He said that he would be here in an hour and he was here in less than an hour. I would highly recommend YN Services for any repair work needed. Thanks for showing up on a Sunday evening, when most AC companies will not make appointments on off hours. The job was done very professionally! Thanks Yalel! I will definitely contact you for any services that I need done.

I had a leaky A/C unit that I needed fixed ASAP. Herb Stewart gave me a fair quote, came out within an hour and fixed the issue quickly and efficiently. Thats not all, he gave great tips to help me keep my unit running well to prevent expensive repair bills in the future. It is so refreshing in a world of rip offs and con artist to have a business like this who is honest. Thank you

Kevin is awesome, when my mother-in-laws a/c died he was out that night to repair it. Another company said there was no fixing and it needed replacement. Kevin was able to fix their mistakes and get the unit running again. We are extremely pleased with his service, responsiveness, and most of all his passion for what he does. Fair pricing and most of all cares about his customers!!!!! Highly recommend this company to anyone!!!

We had FPL come out to do a energy survey and advised that we should have our ducts inspected before we do insulation. So my initial request was to have my ducts inspected to see if they need to repaired or replaced. Jeremy responded quickly and he came over the very next morning, inspected our ducts and explained everything that needed to done. He showed us that only one area needed to be repaired and told us they do insulation too! The price was reasonable for both repair and insulation. Two days later their team came over and before we knew we had insulation. Our A/C isn't running so hard, is quieter and our house already feels cooler. Thanks so much! I highly recommend.

I have been having a issue with my AC for months. It works just fine, but intermittently it makes a loud buzzing noise. I called Tony, he picked up right away, and said he was in the area and would stop by to check it out. He called me and told me what time he would be here and was on time! He was able to diagnose the problem and advised me not to spend the money to make the repairs because the cost of the repair was not worth it. He said”if it ain’t broke I don’t recommend fixing it.” He advised it would be more cost effective to wait until the system completely broke down and then replace it. I appreciated his honesty and recommendation after all the system works “just fine” only has some intermittent noise to deal with. I appreciated his skill, knowledge and honesty! He will definitely get my next call and I’d recommend him to all my friends! Thank you Tony

Terrible experience. Would not recommend to anyone. After multiple trips back to our house, the A/C has never sounded worse. It is so loud it has become disruptive to us at all times. The valve on the outside has started to freeze over, this is something that has never happened before. We will be looking for a new company to fix what was supposed to have been repaired.

I was very pleased with the quality of service air conditioning Protech has provided for me. I originally found them online when I was trying to find a/c repair in Miami. The technician came in within the appointment time, and fixed the issue. They were super helpful explaining everything, and gave very good recommendations to help my a/c from breaking again and ways to save money. I am very happy with my A/C now and its cooling better than ever. Thank you guys!!

Thank God I FINALLY found a go-to AC company that actually works!!I've had issues left and right with my AC since I purchased my house, even after having bought a new AC back in 2014. Decided to go with a company outside of that one which I bought it from and how refreshing to know that there are still people in the home repair industry who are professional, courteous, educative with their services. Thank you UC team!

They did a great job to diagnose the problem. Previous repair tech said the compressor was bad and I should replace the unit which was not true. Will definitely recommend them and use in the future.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

Do you need to clean your air ducts?

Air duct cleaning is done by heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) professionals. The pros use industrial-strength, truck-mounted vacuums and powerful brushes and hoses to clean inside the metal ducts that make up your forced air heating and cooling system. The Environmental Protection Agency recommends duct cleaning if there is “substantial visible mold growth inside hard surface ducts, ducts that are infested with vermin such as rodents or insects, or ducts that are clogged with excessive amounts of dust and debris and/or particles are actually released into the home from your supply registers.”

You should also have air ducts cleaned after recent water contamination or water damage to prevent mold; after renovations or remodeling to ensure debris and dust didn’t settle in the vents and ducts; if you are having problems with allergies or asthma; or when you are moving into a newly purchased home, especially if the previous owners smoked or had pets. The National Air Duct Cleaners Association (NADCA) recommends getting your air ducts cleaned every three to five years, or every two to three years in regions where homeowners use their air conditioning and heater for many months of the year, while the EPA suggests homeowners have duct cleaning done as needed.

How often should you get your air ducts cleaned?

How often you should clean your air ducts depends on your situation. If you or someone in the home has asthma or is acutely allergic to certain airborne materials or pollen, regular duct cleaning may be helpful. The Environmental Protection Agency doesn’t have an official position on the necessity of air duct cleaning unless the ducts have been contaminated by rodents, insects or mold, or you are aware of particles blowing out through the vents. The EPA recommends you have your air ducts cleaned on an as-needed basis. The National Air Duct Cleaners Association (NADCA) suggests having air ducts cleaned every three to five years.

Be cautious with companies that offer “whole house air duct cleaning,” urges the NADCA. The company may be using unscrupulous tactics to upsell you once they get started. Before any work begins, always clarify in writing what the job entails and what the cost will be. To protect yourself against fraud, read customer reviews and verify that your HVAC cleaning service has applicable licenses and certifications.

Who fixes furnaces?

If your furnace needs to be repaired, you’ll want to find a qualified heating, ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC) repair technician. Each state has its own licensing requirements; some require all HVAC technicians to have an HVAC license, while others only require someone operating an HVAC service and installation company with employees to hold a contractor’s license. For example, in Alabama, the Alabama Board of Heating Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration Contractors regulates licensing, while in Kansas there is no state regulatory body and HVAC licensing can vary by region. For simple furnace repairs like changing out a filter, a trusted handyman can probably handle the job, but a trained professional should be hired for tasks like replacing a gas valve, installing a new inducer fan motor or other critical furnace repair jobs that involve dealing with gas leaks or other dangerous conditions. For more, check out our tips for smart hiring on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to replace air ducts in a house?

If your air ducts have been damaged, you’ll need to replace them. The national average air duct replacement cost is $150-$280, which may not include materials. Factors such as duct material, labor, location of ducts and linear feet of ductwork will all affect your final costs. Labor costs will vary based on how accessible the ducts are and what material your ducts are made of. The least expensive duct material is a flexible, non-metallic ducting that costs approximately $1-$2 per linear foot. Flexible aluminum is generally more expensive and stronger than non-metallic ducting. Stainless steel ducting is the strongest, the least flexible (meaning installing it typically has higher labor rates), and usually the most expensive. An average price for air duct replacement could range between $35 and $55 per linear foot, including basic materials and labor. A typical single-family home has 6-10 duct runs; replacing or installing one duct run could average $150-$250 for labor.

How much will it cost me to replace my furnace?

The national average for furnace replacement is between $1,800 and $2,500. The cost can range dramatically higher depending on the model of furnace you select, any repair work you require, your location and the cost of installation. Furnace installation costs can be more than the furnace itself due to the cost of doing business and the expertise needed to install the HVAC equipment. Installing a new furnace generally requires technical know-how and the proper tools and licensing. It’s best to hire a pro and budget for furnace installation rather than risk potentially unsafe DIY installation. This will ensure your home’s safety. Check to see if your HVAC contractor has the proper licensing to do the job. If you need duct repair or replacement, expect to pay more for your furnace installation costs. The price for duct repair could be an hourly rate ranging on average anywhere from $85 to $150 per hour, with additional costs for parts.
