Phoenix Concrete Plus Inc.
I've waited a while before writing this review so the contractor would have ample time to respond to the issues related to this project in a satisfactory manner which they have not.
I chose this company based on other's reviews and that they did both concrete paving and asphalt. Our job was to resurface our old drive way and to install a new walk way from the driveway to the house.
Re: the walkway
As you will see by the accompanying photos, the walkway is not level; actually far from it. This results in poor optics as you approach the entry. So the question is, how difficult is it to install the framework level prior to pouring the concrete?
The expansion joints were cut with a hand saw and clearly without a guide or even a line being drawn. As you will see by the photos, the lines a not straight and of varying depths. Perhaps functional, but far from aesthetically pleasing.
Finally, the transition of the walkway into the driveway was poorly done (see photos)
Regarding the asphalt resurfacing, there were two major omissions.
The driveway was widened, as per the scope of works. Where it was widened, there was no base or old surface to support the new asphalt, In this case, a rock base should have been laid prior to applying the asphalt. The contractor did this on one side of the driveway but not the other.
The scope of works also called for an adhesive tack agent to be applied to the old surface prior to applying the new asphalt. This tack is called RC70-TACK. The contractor failed to apply this bonding agent anywhere. When asked why they were omitting this step, we were told that, due to rain the morning of the installation, it was not possible to apply this and instead they used a different type of asphalt that had the bonding agent included. I asked them to substantiate this claim by providing a form a proof; i.e. a receipt form the asphalt supplier or other documentation. The contractor failed to provide any such proof and I have been unable to find an asphalt of the nature they claim to have applied. Clearly, the bonding agent is an important element to a successful resurface and the omission is very troubling. In addition, I am sure the cost of the RC70-Tack is significant as is the labor to apply.
Clearly, this company rushed the job from beginning to end and cut corners at every phase of the project. They made no effort to perform quality work and they apparently take no pride in their work.
We could have, and perhaps should have, refused to pay them the entire amount of the job but life is to short and we paid. But through this medium, I can at least express the facts and our displeasure.
I strongly caution anyone from using this company. They do poor quality work and will cut corners, deceive and deflect to suit their needs; not yours.
I've included some photos but not all as this site apparently limits the amount I can post
