The 3 things I worried about when hiring a dog walker was having someone in my home when I'm away, reliability and that they care about my dog. Kim has given me peace of mind on all points and I highly recommend her.

Cami currently comes to our home to walk our dog, Marley, while my husband and I are at work. Also we have hired Cami to pet sit him when we travel, usually just a week at most. We trust Cami with Marley because she has great knowledge with being a dog trainer. What we love the most is she sends us updates of how he is doing, along with pictures of him. On top of her sending us updates we also love that she is always on time with a smile on her face. As of now there are no improvements for Cami as she has greatly outshined my expectations with myself being picky as to whom I leave my dog with.

Monika has done a great job so far. She started off with a deep clean and oh my goodness, my house needed that! Now she is doing the routine bi-weekly cleans and it's made my life so much easier! She is great with our dog, who likes to get in everyone's business, especially when they are cleaning. Thanks Monika! I would recommend Monika's services.

We hired Pookie Bros to look after our pets while we were on vacation for Christmas. I had the opportunity to work mostly with Scottie, and he was so great. He came by to meet our pets (2 cats, 1 dog) and get to know them before we went on our trip. He came twice a day while we were gone and took care of everything at one flat rate (dog walk, cat litter, feeding, even collecting the mail). He also (patiently) answered my many text messages inquiring about my furbabies while we were away, and even sent me some pictures. When we returned home, the animals were clearly well cared for and the house was in good shape as well. I would 100% recommend Pookie Bros to anyone - they have been at it for many years and you can tell they are really passionate about what they do. It's also a great value compared to other pet sitters in Orlando!!!

I’ve used Kara’s services multiple times now for dog walking and boarding. Her love for animals is obvious. Kara was very reassuring to me when I was nervous to leave her while I went away during the weekend. She sent me updates and photos and kept my four legged baby happy. I would definitely recommend Kara to anyone who needs pet care!

Carrie has been great! She dog walks a couple days a week. She will text me to say she is on her way and will take pictures of my fur baby to send over. My dog looks forward to seeing her, and I feel completely comfortable with Carrie. I was a little scared to give a stranger keys and access to my house, but Carrie has proven to be trustworthy and a valuable addition to the family!

Fred and I feel so blessed to have found Liz. She was so tender, loving and kind to our dog while we were away. We had absolutely no worries while we were gone and that was an awesome feeling. We had interviewed many other doggie sitters that just did not fit what we were looking for in a sitter. Liz will always take care of our dog went we have to go away. Great big hug of thanks to Liz! Our Cracker loves you and so do we!

Mia is A-Maz-ing!! I just rescued my first dog ( Frosty). With my busy schedule i am unable to be with him during the day. Frosty has a lot of energy and is not housebroken yet. I definitely have my hands full. So when i saw Mia's website for dog walking and training i was thrilled. After meeting with her i was assured she would be great for the job. And I'm so glad my intuition was right, Frosty loves Mia!! I am not coming home to presents Frosty has left for me to clean up anymore. He rarely has accidents in the house now, and with his daily walks i find that he is a lot calmer when i come home. Mia must run him wild. Mia is extremely professional and her love for dogs is abundant! Thank you Mia!!

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What does a dog walker do?

We all know our dogs love going on long, adventure-filled walks, but jobs and family and commuting can make it difficult to give them the leash time they deserve. You can hire a professional dog walker to make sure your furry friend gets adequate exercise and outdoor time each day. A professional dog walker may be an individual contractor or work for a dedicated dog-walking company. In either case, you want to make sure the pro has the appropriate insurance in case of an emergency. Some people opt to give the dog walker a key to their house; others to have them pick up the dog from the yard. Dog walking can happen as often as multiple times per day, or just a few times a month as needed. Here are some questions to ask when you are interviewing a new dog walker:

    • Will you or someone else be walking my dog?
    • Do you have a backup plan if you can’t make it for a scheduled walk?
    • Will you walk my dog by itself, or do you walk several dogs at once?
    • What are your different walk routes?
    • When will you pick up and drop off?
    • How will we communicate?
    • Do I have to commit to a schedule or are you flexible?
    • What’s your cancellation policy?
    • What’s your response plan if my dog gets injured or becomes sick?
    • How and how often do I pay you?
    • Do you offer package pricing if I buy multiple dog walks up front?

How much do dog walkers charge?

The cost of dog walking depends on several factors including length and frequency of dog walks, the number of dogs on the walk, distance to your house, and any additional services you request. The national average cost range for a dog walk is $10-$20, but that price will vary based on where you live in the country and the regional cost of living and doing business.

The longer the dog walk, the higher your costs will be. Dog walkers offer a range of walk lengths, from 15-minute potty breaks to long hikes of 120 minutes or more. For example, a dog walker may charge $15 for a 15-minute walk and $35 for a 35-minute walk. Requesting that your dog be the only animal on the walk will typically mean a higher cost than if you permit your dog to be walked in a pack of dogs. You may be able to get a discounted rate if you have more than one dog to be walked. For example, a professional dog walker may charge $28 for one dog or $33 for two dogs on a 60-minute walk. If you need additional help — like feeding the dogs or giving them medication — dog walkers may be able to provide this service at an additional fee. Dog walkers may charge higher rates for walking your dogs on holidays.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
