Alyssa came to document my first grandchilds baby shower. Her work ethic is above and beyond. She came early and prepared. Not only did she take candid shots of all the guests, food, decor.she managed to get photos of the gifts as they were being opened AND photograph guests infront of a back drop with props of word bubbles with well wishes for baby! She was upbeat and engaging with everyone, making everyone at ease. The photos were wonderful and so exceeded expectation! There was no delay in her editing & delivery. I would highly recommend her services.!! 5 stars

I hired Vince a few years ago during his undergraduate studies. He wrote a lot of copy for our advertising campaigns (car customizing company) and it was so comforting to have someone I could trust represent our brand.

Because I have written professionally and coherently, for over 40 years, I am quick and competent to revise almost any business letter/proposal/pamphlet.

I have experience with just about any kind of editing (except math). This includes fiction and nonfiction books, academic papers, scholarly articles, grant proposals, resume's, immigration documents, college applications, and business writing. A lot of my clients are professionals or academics whose first language is not English. They appreciate how well I can smooth out the awkwardness in their writing. I've also taught and tutored writers from middle school to graduate school, and I've helped students prepare for SAT and similar writing tests. With six years' experience at a drop-in writing center, I've gotten good at quickly seeing where students or writers need help, and meeting them there.

Engineers are notoriously known as excruciatingly detail oriented people, so as a result we are dedicated to providing meticulously scrutinized products to our clients.

I work a regular 9-5 shift, but I am available for private parties as a bartender. I'm friendly and outgoing. I'm sure to get along with your guests. I'm also available for editing documents, essays, articles, and more.

I provide technical writing and editing services. I have over 25,000 pages of published documents. I am an experienced Fortune 100 tech writer.

Unlike stereotypical engineers, I am an accomplished reader/writer both fiction and nonfiction, particularly technical writing. I attribute my writing expertise to the fact that I grew up without television during the critical formative years of Kindergarten - 3rd grade and 6th - 9th grade. Why no television? My father was career military so we lived in Japan for four years and Germany for four years. Instead of spending those years transfixed by a television I was an avid reader; never without a book and in any and all realms - fiction and nonfiction, history, science, novels, etc. You name it, I loved it. I read Gone With the Wind, cover to cover in 9th grade and loved it. I read all the Hardy Boys books, Tom Swift, Nancy Drew, and on and on. When it comes to writing I am keenly focused on spelling and grammar. I am a Right Brain, Left Brain evenly balanced person. I love Art and Science. Writing is a passion, the flow of the words fascinates me but I am also an amateur photographer

Every day, I notice the seemingly small errors in official documents -- whether it's an online blog, the program for an event, etc. As a consumer, I feel that this detracts and distracts from the quality of the document. Clarity and accuracy make all the difference in the potency of your message. I believe that with my exceptionally focused attention to details and my thorough, persistent attitude, I can provide the finishing touch to your communications. Allow me to polish your hard work.

I'm doing this for free in return only for community service hours for my Bright Futures Scholarship in order to support my educational future.

I have excelled in writing throughout my schooling, from high school to a Master's degree, graduating 4.0 and Magna Cum Lade. If you need someone to edit your work, I am a bit obsessive compulsive in regards to diction and identifying those hidden grammatical errors.

I have previously held a long-time career in the medical transcription industry and have excellent grammar, punctuation and editing skills. I also am very adept at creative writing, resume writing and have even transcribed and edited books that went on to be published. I truly enjoy all aspects of writing with attention to detail and professionalism. I would be happy to help anyone who is in need of my services.

I am a transplanted NYC/CT writer and editor, now living in Vero Beach, Florida. My career has centered around being a staff writer and editor (and then freelance) for leisure magazines. My repertoire includes leisure and adventure travel (I've been to 45 countries on assignment and representing publications), skiing, boating, real estate, interviews, and basically anything that has to do with upscale lifestyles.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you hire a good grant writer?

Grants are available to nonprofit organizations, for-profit businesses that qualify for government grants, and individuals who qualify for foundation or government grants. Hiring a good grant writer can help you gain funding in your chosen field. According to the American Grant Writers’ Association, grant writers can help you research potential grant opportunities; write grant proposals, create budgets, and build budget narratives; review written materials before you submit; prepare a business plan; analyze your organization for grant competitive qualities; prepare research grants; help with 501(c)(3) applications for nonprofits; and more. Investing in the right grant writer could result in a financial win for your organization. Generally no licenses or certificates are required to be a good grant writer, but you may want to find a grant writer who has been certified (not just received a certificate of completion) by a reputable organization such as the Grant Professionals Certification Institute. Qualities to look for in a good grant writer include:

  • Proven success writing winning grants, especially in your target area.
  • Strong writing skills.
  • Strong math skills and demonstrated proficiency with budgeting.
  • Careful attention to detail — brilliant grant proposals may be rejected just for formatting errors, so you want someone who follows instructions explicitly.
  • Expertise in your target area.
  • Punctuality and good communication skills.

How much does a grant writer cost?

Hiring a grant writer can give you a competitive edge when applying for financial grants for your business or nonprofit organization, or as an individual. The cost to hire a grant writer can vary depending on their academic background, areas of expertise, previous grant writing success and years of experience. According to the Grant Professionals Association, grant writers should be paid hourly or by flat fee. It is unethical for a grant writer to accept a commission or percentage compensation of grant monies received. They can, however, be awarded bonuses in line with the hiring company’s prevailing practices. Here are some examples of average grant writing fees:

  • Hourly rate for grant writers with less experience or fewer grants awarded: $25-$35 per hour.
  • Hourly rate for grant writers with some degree of success: $35-$75 per hour.
  • Hourly rate for grant writers with proven success winning large grants: $75-$150 or more per hour.
  • For a smaller grant, the writer may charge a flat fee of $200-$500 for preparation and submission.

Pricing may also vary based on the complexity of the grant application. A federal grant that requires pages of research, budgets and a business plan may take more than 30 hours to prepare. For a high-level grant writer who charges $100 per hour, this means $3,000 or more in grant writing fees.

Most grant writers will provide you with a total cost estimate before agreeing to the work. You may be required to pay a deposit up front, or the grant writer may work from a retainer. Often, seasoned grant writers pay for themselves in the long run by writing successful grants.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
