FAQs
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Yes. I keep up with current design trends in coding and technology by subscribing to the following online training sites for web professionals: Lynda.com, Treehouse.com and the W3schools. I also subscribe to daily podcasts and blogs put on by the top professionals in the field.
- What types of customers have you worked with?
At 517 Design there are no common types of jobs. Our clients range from fortune 100 companies, government agencies, religious organizations and non-profits to local small business. Every website is customized to fit the clients needs and is unique.
- What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
1. Check their background. Do they have a degree or online training in web & graphic design? 2. Is this a full time job or something they do in their spare time? There are a lot of "well meaning amateurs" who mean well but lack to skill required to build a professional website. 3. Are you capable of hand coding a site or do you use a program that writes the code for you? A lot of great sites can come out of a program like Dreamweaver or using a Wordpress template, but a professional designer is going to know how to code. This will enable them to customize a site as needed and keep up with the current design & proper code to insure your site operates as it should, across multiple browsers and devices. 4. Do they Know how to use and code with HTML 5, CSS 3, PHP, JavaScript and jQuery? 5. Do they test their sites before site launch on multiple operating systems, browsers and mobile devices? 517 design tests all sites on a PC and Mac using Internet Explorer, Firefox, Chrome and Safari. Sites are tested on the following mobile devices and TVs; - 10 to 15 inch notebooks - 19 to 24 inch desktops Tablets horizontal and vertical - Kindle Fire HD 7" - Kindle Fire - Kindle Fire HD 8.9 - Samsung Galaxy Tab - Google Nexus 7 - Apple iPad (all) Smart Phones - Apple iPhone 6 plus - Apple iPhone 6 - Apple iPhone 5 - Apple iPhone 4 - Apple iPhone 3 - Samsung Galaxy S3/4 - Samsung Galaxy S5 - Samsung Galaxy S2 - ASUS Galaxy 7 - LG Optimus S - BlackBerry 8300 - Motorola RAZR V8 - Motorola RAZR V3m TV - 480p TV - 720p TV - 1080p TV 6. Is hosting included in the price? This may require a monthly fee. At 517 Design we have no monthly fees. Once your site is paid for you own it. We recommend you purchase your own hosting through a qualified hosting provider. If needed will guide you through the process. Purchasing hosting insures that you have control over your hosting and are not charged any extra fees. 7. Will I own my domain name? Same as #6. We recommend you purchase your own domain name. We will assist you in choosing a name that will aid in SEO. I have had clients who paid for a domain name then found out the site developer purchased it under their own name. This meant the site developer owned the client's company name, not the client! And in some cases tried to charge the client extra to release the domain name back to the client. 8. Do you guarantee the site once it's built? At 517 Design we guarantee all our sites for functionality, visual design, user interface design, spelling and broken links. 9. Do you offer maintenance after the site is built? We like to keep our clients happy by continually maintaining a site for the life of the site. We are there to upgrade / grow your site as your company changes or grows. We don't charge for small changes. If larger change is needed we will evaluate the change and give you a quote based on our hourly rate. No site changes are made with out client approval. 10. Do you design for mobile devices? Today's market is rapidly moving from desktop computers to mobile devices such as tablets and smart phones. Research shows up to 80% of site visitors are viewing sites on mobile devices. This number increase with younger site visitors. 517 Design builds all it's sites using "Responsive Design" for mobile devices.
