I went away for about three weeks and found Carolyn on short notice she was very accommodating and upon the conclusion of the meet and greet I decided to hire her. She cared for my four babies and did an amazing job she texted me every day pictures and let me know how they were doing I have hired several pet sitters who I was not happy with upon returning home but she is the best by far I highly recommend her if you want a true pet sitter that treats your fur babies with a lot of love time and affection as if they were hers. Amazing job Carolyn were happy to have you as a part of our family now Adrianna & Cody, Porter aka (meatball), Dylan, Conner, Louie 😊❤👌🎊🐶🐱🎉

Libbey did a very good job caring for my 3 cats. I would give her 4.5 stars if I could. She also picked up my mail and newspapers and adjusted the blinds and lights while I was gone. She is very professional and provided copies of the contract and proof of insurance. I would have appreciated slightly more communication while I was gone. A daily update would be great, either text or email. Overall, a pet sitter that I would hire again.

Stephanie is the best! We are new to Vero Beach and wanted to find a very qualified sitter for our two cats. She was super quick to respond, visited our home and immediately put us at ease about leaving our babies in her care. She even watered our plants! We are thrilled to have in our 'family'!!!

We recently had to go out of town for 10 days and were in desperate need of an in-home dog sitter. Fortunately for us Kris Cordes responded and we hired her to sit with Lucy while we were away. We couldn't have been more pleased with the services provided. Kris was prompt, friendly, and extremely responsive to our needs. She kept in touch with us throughout our trip, which was great for our peace of mind (we,ve never done this before).....and Lucy loved her! We highly recommend Kris for any pet services and plan to use her as our "Go to sitter" for any of our future needs.

It was our first time using a pet sitter to stay overnight in our home and Madi made us feel extremely comfortable. You could immediately tell that she has a strong love of animals and our dog, Gracie, was drawn to her right away. Madi is extremely professional and we would highly recommend her to anyone seeking a trustworthy pet sitter.

Jessica took very good care of my cats and brought in my mail and took out my garbage. She sent me a picture while I was out of town to show how she was bonding with one of my cats. It was great to be able to enjoy my time over the holidays with my family knowing that my cats were in good hands. I would recommend Jessica if you need a good, reliable and friendly pet sitter.

I was referred to Cherished Critters Pet Sitters by my groomer about a year ago. I was a nervous wreck because Sarah is my family and I have never left her with anyone. Cherished Critters has cared for Sarah everyday, for the past year while I work. Her care has far exceeded my expectations. Maria is caring, flexible and attentive to Sarah; just like family. I would be happy to recommend Cherished Critters to anyone.

Angela has gone above and beyond in taking care of my beloved pet. Hurricane Sandy befell the coast while I was out of town on business and she took Kissey, my kitty, home with her, to protect her from the wind and the rain since I could not return to Orchid Island in time. When I went to pick her up, Kissey was sound asleep with her bed and blanky on the table next to Angela's bed. I would definitely recommend Angel's Pet care to anyone that wishes their pet to be well cared for. She and her husband are kind and caring and honest and true business professionals. I would welcome anyone to contact me if they have any questions before hiring Angel Care Pet Sitting. My name is Debbie and my number is 561-603-5006 and I live on Orchid Island in Seasons. You will not find a better pet sitter anywhere. I guarantee it.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to hire a house sitter?

House-sitting can be a lifesaver when you’re leaving town for any length of time. Whether you work remotely, you’re taking a much-needed vacation, or you just want to road-trip for a few days, it’s wise to have a pro keep an eye on your house and pets while you’re gone. Your home is more likely to stay safe and you won’t have to wrangle the kitty into a kennel to travel with you. The national average pet-sitting price ranges between $20 and $30. Pet-sitting and house-sitting costs will vary based on where you live in the country and regional labor rates. Another factor in cost is how long you want the house-sitter to stay. Some people prefer to have the house-sitter stay the night at their house, perhaps to care for an elderly pet or simply to keep a watchful eye on the home at all times. Overnight stays will cost more, ranging anywhere from $50 to $100, depending on services provided. For day visits, house-sitting and pet-sitting prices will increase incrementally the longer the visit and the more service you want performed. For example, a quick 10-minute visit to feed and walk the pet and bring in the mail could be $12.50, a 25-minute visit could be $18, a 40-minute visit $25, and a 50-minute visit $32. How much should you pay for a pet sitter?

Pet sitting provides your precious pet with in-home care. A pet-sitter can make a brief visit during the day to provide snacks, playtime or affection, or stay at your house for one or more nights to tend to your pet. Prices for pet-sitting will vary based on length of the visit. Nationally, pet sitting prices range from $20 to $30, although prices run higher for your sitter to stay the night. Prices will also be affected by where you live in the country. Here are some examples of average pet-sitting prices based on length of time and region:

  • 30-minute visit: $17 in a small Texas town.
  • 30-minute visit: $25 in Southern California.
    • 45-minute visit: $28.
    • 60-minute visit: $32.
  • Overnight stay (10 hours): $50 in Texas.
  • Overnight stay (10 hours): $85 in Southern California.
    • 12 hours: $100.
    • 24 hours: $200. This is a good option for a sick, elderly or brand-new pet that needs constant supervision.
