Matthew and Teddy were super-kind and responsive to all my questions. They worked with me on a few invoices edits before we agreed upon every job to be perforned on site. All the landscaping work was performed within the time period specified (2 days) and looks amazing. My husband and I are truly happy with everything One-of-a-kind Landscaping did for our front and backyard, which included a lot a work with tall trees/palms/1 oak, crepe myrtles, and remulnching. We would definitely hire One-of-kind Landscaping for any future landscaping needs.

Jeff is a highly professional, and more importantly, dependable and trustworthy individual. I had screened other tile installation companies and know the many horror stories from friends and neighbors about selecting the wrong ones. Jeff allayed any fears I had about the project, he was professional, patient and courteous. He also showed a high level of responsiveness and respect. I enjoyed working with Jeff and plan to use his services again and would recommend him without reservation.

Kathy and George are hard-working and they completed my project within the timeframe they gave me. Quality of work was excellent. Communication was also excellent and knowledge and feedback questions I had to maintain landscaping in the future. Any future projects I will call Kathy again and I will refer Kathy and George to anybody that might need landscaping and any other project.🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Kirk was very responsive and courteous of my new born son. Upon coming to my house for the first time, I asked him not to ring the door bell and to text me when he was here. He gave me a very reasonable quote to cut off two broken palm limbs. He scheduled a follow up a few days later to come back and perform the job. He was on time, quick and even removed the debris after he was done. I would highly recommend Kirk and his company for your landscaping needs.

I recently had a pool installed and the pool company that I hired left my yard a total disaster. I started calling landscaping companies and Blu Landscaping was the third one I had called but the first to speak to a live person and not an answering machine. I spoke to the owner, James Rester, and within 30 min. he was at my door. After discussing what I needed I was given a quote and within 2 hours his crew was at my house cleaning up and preparing the landscape. My faith in MANkind was restored! Here are a few reasons you should call Blu Landscaping; James’ price was fair, he is very professional and personable, Diane, Blu’s project manager, was very knowledgeable and helpful, work was done very fast and efficient, he suggested many ideas that I hadn’t even thought of (and he was spot on), he checked up on his crews many times during the day to make sure all was going as planned, I was told I could call him with any questions (and I did) and his crews were masters in their art and took pride in what they did. James stated many times he wants his customers happy, and you will be! Blu Landscaping and James Rester really exceeded my expectations! Thank you! Cathy 12/31/15

Robert was excellent. He was on time with his initial quote. Very friendly & informative. Communicated efficiently via text message. Revised the quote multiple times to meet our needs. Showed up to do the work on time. His team was very professional & kind. Was able to do the job in one day. My yard looks amazing. We had him replace all of our mulch with decorative red rock. We couldn't be happier. If we need landscaping services in the future we will defining be giving Robert a call. Thank you!

Tampa Landscapes provided us with a in depth proposal explaining the cost and the scope of work to be performed. Jimmy Dennis used his expertise to design an affordable complete landscaping program that will be easy to maintain in the shade or the sun around our whole house. Even though Jimmy had his back to the wall to get the project finished by Thanksgiving as proposed, he succeeded. I would recommend Tampa Landscapes to anyone that needs help getting their yards and outdoor living areas in order.

We hired Adam after looking for a tree service for our palms, oaks and other trees. Adam came out for a quick and free estimate and ending up giving us a great rate. He brought suggestions based on experience and it was clear he was passionate about what he does. He knew so much about our trees and how best to trim them and make them look their best. Adam and his crew arrived even sooner than they said they originally could. They were amazing and took excellent care of our trees and landscape. We will use them again next year for the same service and I would happily recommend them to anyone looking for an experienced tree service.

I was beyond thrilled with Suncoast Landscaping. From the first meeting with Nicole to the completion of the project, every step of the way was completed in a professional, knowledgeable and meticulous way. Nicole came out to measure the area to be landscaped, to find out what I had in mind and to give me suggestions on what plants would work. By the next day I had a schematic of the area complete with plant placement and pictures of the suggested plants. She worked with me to make slight changes in an attempt to fit my budget. Steven and Cameron were perfectionists. They took great care in preparing the area, laying down the dirt and digging the holes for all the plants. They worked with me on rearranging some plants. Once the plants were in the ground they added the pine bark. They worked their magic and I couldn't be happier with the results. I would highly recommend Suncoast Landscaping to anyone who wants a job well done. I have already hired them again for additional work.

Great experience. I've since hired him to do my monthly lawn care. The weeds in my yard were very bad and he responded and was out to my house the next day.

"I am very satisfied. You don't always get everything, but usually by the time I notice you have missed something you get it the next time. You are a bit pricey, but of the three companies that I have hired for my lawn care since I have lived at my house you are by far the best."

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What does a landscape contractor do?

Landscape contractors work from outdoor architectural or design plans to build and install hardscaping or softscaping for the client, much as a general contractor uses architectural designs to build a house. Landscape contractors are experts in soil drainage, grading, hardscaping (installing concrete paths and retaining wall, building ponds, etc.), and planting. They have heavy equipment such as excavators and tractors to prepare the land as needed.

Some landscape contractors are also landscape architects or landscape designers. The titles can be compared with those in home construction: A building or landscape architect must earn a specialized architecture degree and pass an exam to have a license. A designer — whether an interior designer or a landscape designer — does not usually require a license to work. Landscape contractors are not required by law to work from plans designed by a landscape architect, so you may work directly with the landscape contractor to specify the work you’d like done. The national average cost for large-scale landscaping projects is $10,160. Pricing can vary greatly depending on the project scope, materials and design.

How do you find a good landscape architect?

Hiring a landscape architect is an investment in your home. Landscaping can reduce water bills, improve your home resale value, add to your daily living experience and significantly boost curb appeal. A landscape architect will draw the designs for your new landscape; you’ll want to hire a landscape contractor to carry out the plans. Many companies provide design-build landscaping services, with a company architect creating plans for your vision and the landscape contractor executing the vision. With the proper academic background and licensing, a person can be both landscape architect and landscape contractor. Here are a few tips for finding a great landscape architect:

  • Research online portfolios and find several landscape architects whose work interests you.
  • Read online reviews of client experiences.
  • Research whether the landscape architects you are interested in are currently licensed and in good standing with the licensing board, and check whether any complaints have been issued against them. Each state will have their own searchable database. For example, you can search for California landscape architects via the state’s Department of Consumer Affairs.
  • Request bids from your selected landscape architects.
  • Hire the one you like the most, taking care to have a clearly written contract outlining scope of work.

What should you look for when hiring a landscaper?

Landscaping can be costly — though it usually pays off in curb appeal and home resale value — so finding a landscaper who is worth the investment is important. When hiring a landscaper, look for proven success with the type of results you want. For example, if you know you want a drought-tolerant yard, research websites, reviews and portfolios that showcase beautiful drought-tolerant yards that the landscaper has installed. In addition to relevant experience, you’ll want to find a landscape contractor who has good client reviews. Good communication skills are another important quality in a landscape contractor, since everything from plant selection to hardscape installation needs to be discussed and agreed upon. A landscape contractor who is reliable, easy to understand and able to listen to what you want will help make the process seamless and enjoyable.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
