- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
Just as you wouldn’t hire a doctor, contractor, or accountant without the proper education, certifications, references, or professional affiliations, neither should you skimp on a professional trainer for you and your best friend. I am certified by the Certification Council for Professional Dog Trainers and the American Kennel Club, and have worked very hard to achieve my level of professional success. “Good dog trainers aren’t cheap, and cheap dog trainers aren’t good.” My goal is to get you to the point where you DON’T need me. If you need me for multiple ongoing sessions (except service dog training, which is intensive) then I’m not doing my job right.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I have a standard questionnaire for potential clients to discuss with me over the phone to get a feel for the individual concerns and goals and to begin a treatment plan. Then in the first session, I meet with the clients in their home, where the dog is much more likely to be at ease. At this time I do an assessment, to determine energy, motivation levels, anxiety and frustration thresholds, appropriate exercise needs, socialization (dogs and humans) and bonding level to give me a more thorough picture of the dog's temperament and tendencies. Then I ask for the client's input to create a custom plan and follow up with tasks, goals, and homework on a weekly basis. I am always available between lessons by phone or text for ongoing support.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am a Certified Professional Dog Trainer (CPDT-KA) by the Certification Council of Professional Dog Trainers. I am Certified by the American Kennel Club as a Canine Good Citizen Instructor/Evaluator and am Certified in Pet CPR/First Aid. I have over 7000 hands-on training hours, accumulated as the full time Director of Day Training at a large South Florida dog training center for over two years, combined with two more years as a trainer at a big box pet store chain, and ten years (part time) running my own operation. I have several thousand more hours of direct observation, research, consultations, webinars and seminars in the dog training field. I am a Professional Member of The Association of Professional Dog Trainers (APDT), The Pet Professionals Guild (PPG), and a Supporting Member of The International Association of Animal Behavioral Consultants (IAABC).
