Needed an interior door painted and doorknobs put up. Was quoted $250, however we needed some other small jobs around the house done so he said he could do everything for $65 per hour. I figured painting a door wouldn’t take wouldn’t take more than 4 hours so we agreed to that. The small jobs he finished in about an hour. Figured the bill would be around $300-400. However, they needed some things from Home Depot so they left for 2 hours and charged us $130. I don’t know if carpenters should charge for Home Depot trips or not but 2 hours? We would’ve just gone ourselves and save $130. They likely had lunch or did other things during that time, what we needed at Home Depot could’ve been bought in 15-20 minutes. They returned and worked until the end of the day. Was charged 10 hours that day and 1 hour the day before for a total of $715. The doorknobs were still not put up so I was told they’d come back later to put them up with the price we already paid. A few days later, we agreed on a day when he’d put up the doorknobs. However, he never showed up that day and later responded he’d put them up if we hired him for other work. I responded that we were going out of town for the holidays and you already agreed to put them up, so please put them up before we leave and we can discuss the other project when we come back. Three weeks later, he hasn’t responded nor put up the doorknobs. Please don’t book this guy. He’ll scam you and then ghost you.

Lending Hand Handyman's reply
$130 was the cost of the materials that was used to do the job, i.e door bottom weather stripping, paint (due to the owner purchasing the wrong color) as well as shop for the door handles because the client did not have them purchased nor were be able to get any at home depot so the client had to order them and wait for shipping, if they were infact there that day i would have installed them. Also I might add that i used my own wood filler to fill and sand every hole left by the door installer as well as my own primer, it was also not just doors it was full size 8 foot French doors with glass inserts with freshly installed door frame and casing. there was 2 people on-site working that day for the cost of one.
