After researching and interviewing local roofing companies, I selected James Neill Roofing & Waterproofing, Inc. His company received a good rating from the Better Business Bureau, and he came highly recommended from people I trust. Hiring the right contractor for this type of job is extremely important, because you are talking about the appearance and safety of your home. He and his workers showed up on time, were professional, performed quality work, left the site cleaner than when they arrived, and made the entire process stress free for me. I also found their pricing to be appropriate for the work being performed - not too high and not too low. I would not hesitate to recommend his company to anyone who needs a new roof, or work done on their roof. As a matter of fact, I recommended him to a neighbor who also was pleased with his service.

First let me state that I never like to write negative reviews for anyone. I am not reviewing James quality of work or his expertise. I am reviewing his lack of dependability as a business man. I had contacted James to evaluate the flashing and cap around my chimney as I suspect a leak. He was cordial to me over the phone and set a time to inspect it. First time a no show and I gave him the benefit of doubt. He called to reschedule for five days later. Second time a no show. No call or excuse, just a no show. Two days of wasting my time like my time is not important. Very poor management skills. At this point I decided to hire another roofer based upon neighbor referrals. James my time is valuable too.

I wear a lot of hats running a small business and at times things can get a bit overwhelming trying to see everyone. James (Tony) has performed several repairs on my property with excellent results. He will go the extra mile to insure the surrounding areas of the repair are also in great shape. James has also performed some custom work where I had him install tongue and groove boards and rough cut ceader beams with a great results.

During rainstorms we were having water come through the ceiling just above the fireplace. I called Neill and he came right over, found out that the original flashing around the chimney had been installed wrong and was capturing water. Also it had been going on for years and had rotted the roof. In one day, he tore out the affected areas, cleaned up the attic part of the building that had suffered damage, and got everything back into GREAT CONDITION!!!! And he left the work site completely clean. Fast, professional, and at a Great Price!! You have a roofing problem, I would not hesitate in a second to recommend him.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
make sure they are "properly" licensed,get references,check them out for complaints and how long have they been in business.Additionally to break the aforementioned items down: in the state of Florida there are only 2 kinds of accepted roofing contractors licenses.A contractor must be STATE CERTIFIED or COUNTY REGISTERED there are no other LEGAL forms of licensing in the state of FLORIDA .Please read my blog on thumbtack on FL roofing service and there is some additional info on this subject to consider.
What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?
that we are as professional as a doctor,lawyer,dentists,etc.in florida we are regulated,and required to get continued education,and renew our licenses every two years.we have tremendous costs associated with our profession,and are at the mercy of commodity price changes that strain our ability to be competitive,and the constant changes in regulations,when i first started in the roofing business,all you needed to have was an occupational license($30-40)and you were in business,not any more.bottom line most contractors are hard working,honest,and care greatly about their chosen profession. above all we are professionals,and deserve to be appreciated.
