Johnny was my landscaping professional. He was knowledgeable and friendly, easily handled my questions and was available in great time. He reviewed my job request and provided additional advice and options to consider. He provided an estimate with a great price (and I would know I got several estimates). I scheduled him to come out ASAP which was very soon after the initial estimate visit. He showed up with his crew as scheduled, did excellent work, and cleaned up everything. I could not be happier and have nothing to complain about, which is why I gave 5 star review. I will definitely use Albert & Ellis for my outdoor projects.

Kathy was able to give an estimate immediately after i posted project. She responded to messages immediately. She came out the next day and did a fantastic job. These before and after pics of the shrub/bush trimming don’t do it justice. She had to also go in my neighbors yard for cleanup. I am very satisfied. Would definitely use again! Thank you so much.

Lucian, went to my address almost right away, then provided me with a quote and sent his team to mow my lawn within the time he stated, and I am very grateful to him and his guys for the great job that they all did. I would highly recommend Lucian and "A Low Cost Lawn Service, LLC" to anyone needing lawncare.

I was ready to just pull everything up and put down shell or stone, I was so upset over many years going through different lawn management companies. My yard looked terrible, plants were suffering and the other companies would literally cut, blow and go cutting my grass down to dirt. John came in and rescued everything giving me several options. The value of my home has risen with landscaping and lawn care and I love my yard again. He is extremely knowledgeable in lawn and plant care for this region. He works with his crew, listens to what you want and explains what will work and what won't so you don't spend money foolishly. He has a strong morale work ethic. I am extremely happy and highly recommend him. Kris

I have had a very hard time finding a reliable landscaping company. I am so glad to have found Mark and Kevin with Strong Landscaping. They are both very professional and knowledgeable. They responded within an hour of me contacting them and were ready to start immediately. They did a complete walk through of my yard with me and listened to all of my specific requests. They are willing to go above and beyond for customer satisfaction. I have seen many companies that just hop on the mower and leave with in 5 minutes of arrival. Not Strong landscaping, they are willing to take the time to do the little things it takes to make your yard look great. I highly recommend Strong Landscaping.

I was beyond thrilled with Suncoast Landscaping. From the first meeting with Nicole to the completion of the project, every step of the way was completed in a professional, knowledgeable and meticulous way. Nicole came out to measure the area to be landscaped, to find out what I had in mind and to give me suggestions on what plants would work. By the next day I had a schematic of the area complete with plant placement and pictures of the suggested plants. She worked with me to make slight changes in an attempt to fit my budget. Steven and Cameron were perfectionists. They took great care in preparing the area, laying down the dirt and digging the holes for all the plants. They worked with me on rearranging some plants. Once the plants were in the ground they added the pine bark. They worked their magic and I couldn't be happier with the results. I would highly recommend Suncoast Landscaping to anyone who wants a job well done. I have already hired them again for additional work.

Adam with Lawn & Tree Salon provided a prompt quote that was more competitive than the other companies. His team was able to come out and do the work within a few days. They did a fine job tearing out a yard full of bushes and shrubs, leveled out our yard and put down new sod in a matter of hours. Well done. Thank you.

We hired Allscape to install a patio off our back door. There had been a deck previously and we wanted to have a raised portion so it would be an easy step out and a larger lower portion. Dennis and his crew were exceptionally professional and did a fantastic job communicating with us about when they would be coming. They stuck to the estimate and timeline and I am sure if there had been any reasons for delay we would have been kept in the loop. The price for the patio was the highest quote that we got, but after hiring a cheaper company to do the work only to have them fall through and clearly not know what they were doing with such a large job, the price was absolutely worth it. From start to finish, this job was done with forethought and proper execution. I would recommend Allscape to anyone looking for a new patio without hesitation. We are now getting estimates for landscaping around the new patio and I will write another review as we will likely trust Allscape for that as well.

Juan and his family did a wonderful job beautifying my front and back yards. Juan worked with us on the design and adjusted it until we were happy. He went out of his way to find the best plants for what we were trying to achieve at the best price. Installation was professional and well done. The fact that they are a family operation and will take care of the planting’s for the first month to be sure all is well is very reassuring. I highly recommend Magnolia Landscaping if you are looking for a dedicated group of people who are passionate about giving you what you would like to beautify your landscape!

Great experience. I've since hired him to do my monthly lawn care. The weeds in my yard were very bad and he responded and was out to my house the next day.

"I am very satisfied. You don't always get everything, but usually by the time I notice you have missed something you get it the next time. You are a bit pricey, but of the three companies that I have hired for my lawn care since I have lived at my house you are by far the best."

I needed four very large trees removed from my home. I met with seven different tree removal companies and received quotes from five. When it comes to tree removal, finding an honest company is difficult. Many are shady and willing to cut corners to just get paid. When I met with Kenneth with Triangle, it took me 5 minutes to know this was the right company. He is a certified Arborist, he took the time to listen to what I wanted. He spent 30 minutes in my back yard taking notes and measurements. He emailed the estimate same day. We scheduled the dates for the job and he did not push me to do anything I did not want to do. He even came back out to meet me and go over all parts of the job that would be done so there was no question. The job done was hands down, excellent. Zero issues. I highly recommend this company. As you receive quotes for jobs you need done, this company has to be one that you call - you will see just as I did this company is class A rated. I am also a local law enforcement officer in Pinellas County.

We have been using Tapias Grass Choppers LLC for over 8 years to take care of our lawn and landscaping and they have provided us tremendous service. Tapias cuts and edges our grass every week, sprays for weeds on our driveway, walkways and lawn and cleans our mulch beds when necessary. They do an excellent job and their price is very reasonable. We have just sold our house and the new buyers were so impressed with their work that they have decided to hire them for their property

My yard looks beautiful and I am sure to enjoy it for many years. I would not hesitate to use Hardy Landscaping again.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What does a landscape contractor do?

Landscape contractors work from outdoor architectural or design plans to build and install hardscaping or softscaping for the client, much as a general contractor uses architectural designs to build a house. Landscape contractors are experts in soil drainage, grading, hardscaping (installing concrete paths and retaining wall, building ponds, etc.), and planting. They have heavy equipment such as excavators and tractors to prepare the land as needed.

Some landscape contractors are also landscape architects or landscape designers. The titles can be compared with those in home construction: A building or landscape architect must earn a specialized architecture degree and pass an exam to have a license. A designer — whether an interior designer or a landscape designer — does not usually require a license to work. Landscape contractors are not required by law to work from plans designed by a landscape architect, so you may work directly with the landscape contractor to specify the work you’d like done. The national average cost for large-scale landscaping projects is $10,160. Pricing can vary greatly depending on the project scope, materials and design.

How do you find a good landscape architect?

Hiring a landscape architect is an investment in your home. Landscaping can reduce water bills, improve your home resale value, add to your daily living experience and significantly boost curb appeal. A landscape architect will draw the designs for your new landscape; you’ll want to hire a landscape contractor to carry out the plans. Many companies provide design-build landscaping services, with a company architect creating plans for your vision and the landscape contractor executing the vision. With the proper academic background and licensing, a person can be both landscape architect and landscape contractor. Here are a few tips for finding a great landscape architect:

  • Research online portfolios and find several landscape architects whose work interests you.
  • Read online reviews of client experiences.
  • Research whether the landscape architects you are interested in are currently licensed and in good standing with the licensing board, and check whether any complaints have been issued against them. Each state will have their own searchable database. For example, you can search for California landscape architects via the state’s Department of Consumer Affairs.
  • Request bids from your selected landscape architects.
  • Hire the one you like the most, taking care to have a clearly written contract outlining scope of work.

What should you look for when hiring a landscaper?

Landscaping can be costly — though it usually pays off in curb appeal and home resale value — so finding a landscaper who is worth the investment is important. When hiring a landscaper, look for proven success with the type of results you want. For example, if you know you want a drought-tolerant yard, research websites, reviews and portfolios that showcase beautiful drought-tolerant yards that the landscaper has installed. In addition to relevant experience, you’ll want to find a landscape contractor who has good client reviews. Good communication skills are another important quality in a landscape contractor, since everything from plant selection to hardscape installation needs to be discussed and agreed upon. A landscape contractor who is reliable, easy to understand and able to listen to what you want will help make the process seamless and enjoyable.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
