Big Al was extremely helpful in fixing our Samsung fridge! He shared how many times he has seen this issue and came prepared with the part needed to fix it on the day of when I called. He was available and responsive, which I appreciated. He charges $90/hour which was very reasonable. His personality is also super easy to get along with. Really appreciated his work and help -- definitely would rely on him again in the future if we run into any appliance issues.

Al was great. He came out and fixed my Samsung fridge that had a broken ice maker. He was very upfront and honest about what he was doing and ended up fixing it without my having to buy any new parts or anything. Would recommend him to anyone needing help with their appliances.

We had just moved and took our refrigerator with us. We were concerned that it was not properly leveled so we monitored the temperature. It was between 40 and 42 degrees despite being on the coldest setting. The freezer seemed to be fine. I checked possible causes (door seal, light/fan switch, vent obstructions, dirty coils) and could not find a problem. I called Al and he responded immediately and arrived within an hour or two. He observed it for a bit, and we agreed that the situation was not dire and that there was nothing immediately obvious that was a problem. He removed some access panels, applied heat to the vents from both ends, and explained that sometimes, when a refrigerator is moved, some ice can build up and obstruct the vent. By applying heat, it was possible it would melt the ice and the refrigerator would get better (at least for a while until the ice reformed). If the heat helped, then we would know ice was building up and then take things apart at a later date and find the underlying cause. He charged me a minimal fee and assured me that we would apply part of the fee to any eventual repair. We agreed that it was not worth "tearing the refrigerator apart" looking for the cause when the problem was still minimal. I appreciated his honesty and advice. After he left I monitored the temperature. It got no better after the attempt to melt the ice. It seemed like it was keeping things cold well. I went out and purchased a new thermometer and lo and behold the old thermometer was the culprit, it was reading about 7 degrees too high. The refrigerator was working properly. In a perfect world Al would have taken out his own thermometer and verified the problem, but neither he nor I thought of it. If I had to choose between a perfect repairman or an honest repairman, I would choose the honest one every time. He did not spend hours taking it apart and putting it back together. He did not begin replacing parts to try to find the culprit. The fee he charged me was reasonable compensation for his time and effort. I will call on him again when i have a problem.
