We live in Colorado and own a vacation rental home in North Port, Florida. It is difficult for us to hire professionals this far away who we can trust to do good work. Brown Heating & Cooling repaired a chronic problem with our condensate drain in our air conditioning unit when other HVAC technicians were stumped. They were very responsive (same day); the technician know what he was doing; and went the extra mile to clear the drain. I now have a trusted HVAC tech in Florida who will be working on all of our HVAC needs :)

Our tech arrived and while he was competent and an overall nice guy, he was essentially done with our service and said it was going to be about $600, which seemed fair. My husband then mentioned he thought the toilet that was just fixed might be leaking, so the plumber looked at it, tightened the bolts for a minute or two and then came into our kitchen and just talked and talked. He was mainly trying to get us to buy a monthly maintenance subscription for the company. Then, he said that since he "had to work an extra 15 minutes" it was another $200. He never even looked at the toilet again before he left. We have hired plumbers many times over the years, but we have yet to encounter a situation where a plumber can suddenly decide to charge $1,000 an hour. I was especially put off for being charged for time that the plumber tried to sell us on a subscription plan. We went from having a positive experience to feeling like we were being taken advantage of. The toilet still leaked, so my husband ended up getting some parts via mail today and finish the job himself. We contacted the company about this and were told our concerns would be passed onto management, but we never heard back.

Be more customer centric improve on their bedside manner, don’t make the customer feel like they’re an inconvenience or that they’re doing them a favor to come out and quote work. You never know what a small job leads you to.
