"Great Job" A&G General Services USA, did an awesome job. We received a good quote, hundreds below what others were charging to paint our 3 bedroom home. They are very professional and provided great customer service. We already have other projects scheduled with them. Glad we chose them

ATR SCREENING DID A PHENOMENAL JOB!! We needed the roof to our screen room to be replaced/repaired due to some major leaking that I had let go way too long. Bryan and his team worked quickly to have this done just in time for a family gathering. They communicated with us and kept us up to date on the progress via phone, email and text. Their approach to customer service as well as their work is top notch. Very professional and friendly. The workers cleaned up after themselves and pressure washed our porch area. We can tell they take pride in their work as they paid attention to the little details and also showed concern for our family safety (our roof was engulfed with water and was on the verge of collapsing). We are so thankful to have found this company, and will definitely recommend to anyone needing this type of service. I must add that we felt comfortable with them from the very beginning, a total of 3 different companies came out to give us an estimate for the repair/replacement. ATR was the only company that showed genuine concern, and gave us an action plan that would solve the problem. The others gave us a "patch it up" type of solution. Thank you again!!!

STOP AND READ! I would highly recommend you hiring Nomar for your project. I fell into a situation when selling my home that required me to update my electrical panel (Federal Pacific). My closing date was 4 days away when I received this news. I called him utilizing Thumbtack, he assured me that he could get the job done, and went to get the permit the same day. He walked me through the process of what he was doing, worked on getting an inspection completed, communicated with my realtor and the buyers realtor, and worked with the power company to expedite the process. The inspection was approved and I was able to close on my home on-time. There are a lot more details to this story, but the bottom line is, if want to work with someone who cares about the client. Nomar is your guy.

Charles replaced my roof, which was a mess. He estimated it would take 2 days to complete for final inspection. The job was pretty much completed in one day. He provided me with a photo of the work in progress and it was a spot on quality work. He met his estimate for the resources needed as well as the cost. I am so pleased and appreciative of the work done by this company.

Ed is very professional showed up on the agreed upon time and with a smile. He assessed my work that needed to be done and gave me a quote quicker than anyone I have ever hired. He explained to me the problem, what needed to be fixed, and exactly how much it would cost for the work. The military discount was an added bonus I wasn't expecting. I will use ENK electrical anytime I need electrical work and would recommend them to EVERYONE

Mr. George Mitchell is the epitome of an Exceptional Construction and Remodeling company. Undeniably, his family operated business is the utmost reliable and trust worthy company, I have been associated with thus far. I am a real estate investor and a retired 23 year army veteran. He values veteran’s service to our country. He methodically managed the overall essential and tedious arrangement of my electric fireplace, crown molding, painting, carpentry & electrical work, mini-stone, and wall mounted television mounting. Surely, this job was without any mistakes or flaws. I HIGHLY recommend his service and approve of Mitchell Construction & Remodeling “BEST Quality of Work” I had during my 15 years of investing. His company exemplified a keen eye of meticulous detail craftsmanship, knowledge, ethical, competent, and exceptional people friendly as well. I surely have found me a reliable contractor that completes the job with pride and perfection. I Salute Mr. George Mitchell Construction & Remodeling, for an OUTSTANDING JOB WELL DONE! ~Radford Homes, LLC

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What do construction project managers do?

Construction project managers help in all stages of your construction project, starting from the very first step. Typically paid a percentage of a total project cost, they are part of the design and planning process and help ensure seamless communication between the design parties and the construction team. According to the U.S. Department of Labor, their scope of work includes preparing cost estimates, budgets and work timetables; interpreting and explaining contracts and technical information to other professionals; reporting work progress and budget to clients; collaborating with architects, engineers and other construction pros; selecting subcontractors and scheduling and coordinating their tasks; responding to work delays, emergencies and other problems; and ensuring compliance with legal requirements, building and safety codes, and other regulations.

The work of construction project managers may seem very similar to that of general contractors, but there are some critical differences. One difference is that, unlike most general contractors, project managers are not engaged in the actual construction — they are onsite overseeing the work of subcontractors. Another key difference is that project managers are hired during the design phase, while general contractors are hired after plans have been made. The project manager is generally paid a percentage of the total project cost, while the general contractor is more typically paid according to the bid they gave to build your project.

How do I find out if a contractor is licensed?

It’s important to know if your project requires work by a licensed professional, as licensing laws can vary by state, locality, and job details. You can find general licensing information online at the government websites that handle occupational licensing for a given profession in your state or location. Some states designate a project cost over which you have to hire a licensed contractor. To find qualified licensed contractors, search your state’s licensing board. For example, in California, the Department of Consumer Affairs operates a searchable database through the Contractors State License Board. In some states, contracting licenses are provided at a regional level. You can find links to specific databases on BRB Publications’ Occupational Licensing page. Red flags that a contractor may not be licensed or may be providing an expired or false license number are unreasonably low bids or a request for complete payment upfront. How much does a project manager charge per hour?

You may choose to hire a construction project manager for your residential or commercial project. For the hands-on homeowner who wants to be involved in home construction but isn’t comfortable hiring subcontractors, a construction project manager can oversee these relationships and supervise labor. Typically, construction project managers charge a fee that is a flat percentage of the total construction project cost. This may range from 10 percent to 15 percent, depending on the company and the services they provide. This means a $30,000 home remodel project would have a construction project management fee of $3,000-$4,500. Hiring a construction project manager generally precludes the markup on subcontractor labor charged by a general contractor. The drawback to this choice is that, unlike a general contractor, the construction project manager won’t be financially responsible for the work of the subcontractors. For larger projects, you may hire a construction project manager who will also hire a general contractor. This provides the benefits of the general contractor along with the management services of the project manager, who will be on board from the beginning. The construction project manager will be involved in the design phase and work with the architects and the building crew, facilitating a smoother overall process.

What is a contractor license number?

A contractor license number is proof that your contractor is operating their business legally, that they have the proper documentation required by your state or region, and that they are competent in their area of work (electrical, plumbing, construction, etc.). Licensed contractors should freely advertise their contractor license number. If not, you can request it before considering them for hire. You can also research your contractor using their license number. The database for your state will indicate the field they are licensed to work in; whether they are up to date on insurance, workers’ compensation and bonds; and whether they have any consumer complaints issued against them. If the licensed contractor you are hiring does not have employees, they are not required to carry workers’ compensation. Each state or region will have their own database for licenses, such as the State of Oregon Construction Contractors Board. For more, check out our tips for smart hiring on Thumbtack.
