A real pleasure to work with Jontell. He was on time the same day we requested service. He was knowledgeable in handling some problems that cropped up during installation of our faucets and drain. He price was more than fair. I would definitely use him again. He does electrical, HVAC and carpentry.

So glad that I met Larry. We hired him to install 11 interior doors (a mix of slabs and prehungs), install trim and once they arrive he'll be assembling and installing cabinets for our new kitchen. He's a nice honest guy and full of time saving tricks from years of carpentry. Thanks Larry!

We were pleased with the entire experience. We found Sully's work to be on budget and on-time. We were presented with an estimate and a timeline; both of which were met in a professional and courteous manner. We will call Sully for our next general carpentry project.

Christian Brother Remodeling did truly EXCELLENT work on my home. I needed a whole lot of work done on my house (siding, carpentry, paint, etc.) within a very tight time and budget constraint. They were professional, trustworthy (I had to work while my home was being repaired), went above and beyond my expectations. They provided daily status reports along with photos so that I could see the progress being made. I can't say enough good about this contractor. The cost was incredibly reasonable. The work quality was outstanding. I give them my highest recommendation.

Rafael and team are great. I needed to quickly turn over a beat up rental property, and they were available immediately. They did great painting work and had a team that stayed late into the night to complete the large job in one day. They also helped with other repairs ranging from electric work, carpentry, and deep cleaning service at great value!

Inmer was a pleasure to work with. His carpentry is very high quality and I can tell his work is built to last. A primary goal of my project was making my deck safe and Inmer delivered. I have hesitation letting my young daughter move around freely. What separates Inmer from other contractors I've worked with was his creativity. My project was a deck rehab, not a new build. That meant he had to work around existing structure and solve problems on the fly. His solutions were smart, safe, and efficient. Finally, Inmer had great communication. He was proactive with his calls and texts. He responded quickly when I had questions, and set very clear and reasonable expectations for the project. I can easily say he was one of the easiest contractors I've ever worked with in terms of planning and logistics. I typically like to provide some constructive criticism when I write reviews to make them useful to other buyers, but I am struggling to come up with anything for Inmer. Bottom line, I can very confidently recommend Inmer and his company.

Fernando made a custom standing desk for me, exactly to my specifications. His prices are very reasonable and he designed and built it based on photos and dimensions that I provided. I could not be happier with the outstanding worksmanshkl and conversation provided by Fernando and Gabriela. If you require any carpentry work, you can't do better than Fernando.

Mr. Nelson is an excellent Carpenter, he is very professional, and has a pleasant personality. I needed corbels and supports to carry the weight of granite on an eight foot kitchen island/counter. In his first visit, he measured the island and informed me of the best placement for the corbels and supports. Within a couple days he emailed me a professional diagram of the island with the recommended placement of corbels and supports. The finished products were exactly want I had hoped for. The corbels were designed and stain to match the island cabinet, perfectly. The supports were better than want some installers recommend. He installed the corbels and supports in a timely manner, before the granite counter top arrived. The granite counter top rested firmly and perfectly on the corbels, supports and cabinet. I am so pleased with his work that I will hire him for future carpentry projects. Please see photos below.

His first job for us was tiling our master bathroom. Then we completely remodeled the kitchen then we built a 1500 square foot addition onto our house. From carpentry and masonry to electrical, drywall and painting, Alex does it all. We cannot imagine having anyone else work on our house. This man is honest, an outstanding craftsman, incredibly hard-working and has an attention to detail second to none.

Mr. Sapp and company remodeled and repaired our pool / pump house in our Subdivision. They completed the renovations and repairs in time for our Pool opening for the 2015 season. The job involved carpentry work, cement and tile work. Any issues that came up during the work was promptly addressed by Mr. Sapp. Our pool house is now looking the best it has in several years.

Showroom Finish Carpentry is a great company to work with. They refinished an antique hutch for us that came out looking fantastic and also custom built cubbies and shelving to fit a tight space in a guest bathroom. They are professional, reliable and courteous and have been a pleasure to work with. We will definitely work with them again on future woodworking and other projects.

Great job at a very fair price. B&C did a good job of communicating directly to schedule the job. They showed up on time and worked very meticulously to ensure we were happy with the hardwood installation. I plan to hire again to finish some other carpentry projects we need completed.

I am a kitchen & bath designer and James has assisted me on multiple installs. His carpentry skills are second to none. He has the ability to execute my designs & make them even better than I imagine. He offers guidance with the logistics of layouts and is able improvise onsite when necessary. He is professional & polite with clients and a delight to be around. Clients always wants him to do more projects in their homes once they see his work.

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

Who is a carpenter and what do they do?

Carpenters are skilled craftsmen who build things out of wood. Depending on what the carpenter builds, they may be referred to by various names. A framer is a carpenter who puts up the framing on a house. A trim or finish carpenter installs the finishing touches of prefabricated or custom trim and detail work once a house has been built and the walls are up. A furniture maker or woodworker builds furniture — such as tables, beds and dressers — out of wood. A cabinetmaker is a carpenter who builds custom and semi-custom wood cabinets. If you’re having a home built or remodeled, your general contractor will either provide or subcontract the carpentry work for the framing, cabinets and trim. You can hire a carpenter directly to update the trim in your home, build you a piece of custom furniture, or repair or replace your wood cabinets.

      Do carpenters build houses?

Carpenters are trained to work with wood. That means that any part of your home that is built of wood is very likely to involve a carpenter. Framing carpenters will put up the wood that makes up the bones of your home. If you’re having a wood floor installed, it may be done by a carpenter — although being a carpenter is not a requirement to install flooring. Trim, baseboards, wainscoting and any other detail work is typically installed by a finish carpenter. The wood boxes of custom cabinets will be built and installed by a carpenter.

Although all of these components in your new or remodeled home are built by carpenters who specialize in building things with wood, a general contractor typically oversees construction of the entire house. If the general contractor is also a carpenter skilled in all these areas, they may well construct your entire home. More often, the general contractor subcontracts out the various building stages to different individuals, including carpenters.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
