The first electrician I hired canceled on me at the last minute so I posted a new ad for needing two TV's mounted. Alex responded very quickly, gave me a fair quote and said he would have no issue mounting the TV over a tricky fireplace. He said he could do it the next day and gave me a 3 hour window for his arrival. He called me the next day to confirm the time he would be over and arrived promptly. Alex quickly assessed the situation and gave me possible scenarios. He exceeded expectations on both TV mounts and I even asked him if he would mind helping me install two smart thermostats. Alex was very professional, he had all of the tools and equipment needed to do the job and was enjoyable to have around the house getting to hear a little bit of his story and his long history of doing electrical work. We will use Alex for any future needs. A+

This review may be a little long but I feel that its worth spreading the word. TLDR: This man and crew do amazing work and I am extremely happy with the results and my decision to hire SCOA! My house was in horrible condition; siding, fascia and window trim were rotten on a large percentage of the house and the deck was in horrible shape. It was looking like one of those houses that you are upset with your neighbor about. I was at the point of just wanting to slap paint on it and turn it into a rental. I hired Jimmy/SCOA via Thumbtack (it didn't hurt all of the 5 star reviews he had). He came over and we reviewed the estimate, contract and discussed the work and time of completion. Everything sounded great so I signed the paperwork and then Jimmy says, "I'll see you tomorrow." What? Sure...I've heard that one before. To my shock and surprise, bright and early the next day, Jimmy and crew started work on my house. The crew was pleasant to chat with but also knew they were here to work and didn't waste time. Fast forward to the end, I am very happy with the outcome. SCOA was able to turn my POS into something that my wife and I want to stay in for at least another 10 years AND was able to do it for a very reasonable price. Hire this man. You will be happy.

John installed internal french doors with a customized glass window over the top. The doors and window look absolutely perfect and original to our home. John was very nice to work with and his attention to all the details including matching wood trim for the floor, moulding, locks and more was done beautifully! We will definitely refer him to others. Thanks John!

Touren was very professional, on time and did great work. He could not remove our storm windows on our big windows(needs two people), but did great work on all of the other windows. Was reasonably priced. Even helped move the furniture to get to the windows. We would hire him again.

very disappointed! I question him multiple times if he could install double iron doors. What a messy unprofessional job. First he changed his price before start of the job cause he realized it was more work than he thought. He worked on the door for over 11 hours and still not right. Now I'm having to hire another contractor to redo this job. This experience was a disaster.

We had Michael and his team come out and replace some rotting wood in several spots around the outside of the house. He took our inspection report (we are selling our home), came out quickly, gave me an estimate right away, and delivered on all he promised. They replaced a porch railing above the entrance (and fixed the problem), replaced rotting sills, and replaced molding on dormers in the front of the house. They also painted window casings of windows that had to be replaced and did lots of touch ups. His whole team was great to work with and I would recommend him to anyone who needs maintenance/repair work done. He knew what to do to pass the inspection, how to save us money, and how to do the job right. Thank you Michael and Nick and the crew!

The Munoz Team replaced necessary trimming, soffit and painted all outside shutters, doors, window seals, and pressure washed my brick home. Fence work was also done. The quality of the work was professional and detailed-oriented. The Munoz Team worked well together and did a beautiful job. My home looks new and fresh! I would definitely use them again. Thank you to the Munoz Team.

Floyd did a great job repairing the rotted wood frame on our front door using PVC trim wood. He was able to locate and replaced new 10"window sidelites and installed new blinds. He attached an awning and handrail we had purchased, and his labor cost/pricing was reasonable for each project. He was reliable, hardworking, and listened to our concerns during the home repair. We would rehire him for future projects.

Wow! Sean was great through the entire process from the quote to the finished product. He came out to my home about two weeks ago to review the work I requested (paint front windows). He also made some suggestions which we agreed needed to be done. I asked him if he could redo the stair rails and he said yes without hesitation. Sean and his team came out to my home this week to complete the work. Boy, I was impressed. From pressure washing the steps to painting the windows, his work is impeccable. The front of my home looks brand new and so nice. His price was fair and he was very helpful. I will use him again!

excellent experience!!! As a first time home owner I was a bit nervous about getting stone worl done but they did the tuck-pointing job seamlessly. Communication was excellent, the work looks GREAT and the Mason was super friendly and informative. He even left me some extra mortar and told me how to use it in case I ever needed to do any minor work myslef. He even took a look at my garage door jamb and told me how I could cheaply fix the gap there. A company that doesn't try to nickle and dime you and is helpful AND sticks to their original quote is a gem. I will be using them for years to come for any work I need done.

I've hired Kevin to do repairs on my house a couple of times. He repaired damage from a tree hitting my house, replaced the gutter and soffit, shingles, etc. Also replaced a bay window and repaired rotted wood around my front door. I've found his work to be professional and prices to be fair and will call him next time I need that type of work done.

First, we are very happy with the product now that it's installed. The windows and the vinyl casing look great and function great. The installation process was amazing. Jeff and his team installed 9 windows and two large entry windows, tested them for functionality, cleaned them all, and cleaned the work areas in less than 3 hours! Well done Jeff! Mr. Popov followed up the installation the next day to inspect the project and make sure we were satisfied with our purchase. UWD of Atlanta provided a first class product, first class installation, and first class communication throughout this project. My wife an I highly recommend this company for any of your window projects. Well done!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you replace a window?

You may want to replace a window if the glass has been damaged, you’re remodeling a room, or you want to upgrade your energy efficiency as well as your style by getting rid of those drafty single panes that are losing you money. When replacing a window, you can remove and replace the entire window down to the house frame. This method is best if the existing frame is damaged or deteriorating, but requires construction skills and know-how and will take more time and money. An easier and less expensive option is to install an insert replacement window into the existing frame. Insert replacements are only an option if your window frame is in good condition without rot or damage.

When replacing an entire window, first you’ll carefully remove the existing window with a pry bar and other tools. Next, you’ll make any repairs and adjustments needed to the existing frame or header and studs to ensure that the space is perfectly plumb and square, so the new window will sit perfectly within the space. Next, install the new window from the exterior, securing it into place. You’ll need to precisely wrap and insulate the window to ensure it doesn’t leak. Then, install the interior casing and exterior trim (as needed). If you prefer to hire a professional to install a window, consider replacing more than one window at a time, as the pro can work more efficiently.

How much would it cost to put in new windows?

The cost to replace a window can vary depending on factors such as window size, type of glass, brand of window, necessary trim repair, and any construction work required for installation. Labor rates and cost to do business in your region will also affect the cost. The national average window installation cost is $2,650 per project. Here are some examples of average trim repair and window replacement costs:

  • Trim repair:
    • Line and case a window frame with an MDF product: $400.
    • Line and case a window frame with raw hemlock wood: $500.
  • Approximate cost to install five windows at one time: $3,000.
  • Approximate cost to install one double-hung, energy-efficient 3-foot by 4-foot window: $500-$550.
    • For the same window size (3-foot by 4-foot) from a different manufacturer made with a specialty fiberglass exterior and all-wood interior, the cost could go up to $1,500.
    • Pricing can go as high as $5,000 for a bay or bow window with specialty glass and framing.
      • These examples include removal and disposal of old materials and window.

How much is a custom window?

Choosing custom windows will increase your window installation cost but will provide you with exactly what you want. The average national cost for window installation is $2,650. Your custom window costs will vary based on several factors. The first factor is the type of frame you want. The four most common types of frames are vinyl, fiberglass, aluminum and wood. Wood is typically the most expensive option, followed by aluminum. The type of glass you select will also affect cost. There are single-, double- and triple-pane windows. Most double- and triple-pane windows have gas sealed between the panes that act as insulation. Windows typically cost more the more energy-efficient they are, though this efficiency can save you money on utility bills in the long run. The type of glass used can also affect cost. There are different grades of glass — high-performance glass, low-e coated glass, and more — which all provide you with better insulation. In addition, the number of unified inches (window height x window width) you need will affect cost. The cost of custom windows will also be affected by installation cost and whether any repair or construction work is required to properly fit the new window.
