I highly recommend using Francis for help with training your dog. He was knowledgable, patient, and great with my dog. We had 6 classes with him and he got my stubborn dog to do things I never thought she could do!!! I am so happy with the results. I have worked with many dog trainers in the past and he is one of my favorite!!!

Kristie has helped me with some basic dog training for my rottweiler Ace. She does an amazing job with him and myself . He has learned a lot really quick and he is really focused when she is giving him commands....I'm very satisfied with what she is doing and would highly recommend her. Thanks Kristie, Ace and I really appreciate what your doing.

I reached out on Thumbtack for a dog trainer and Dawn responded within 15 minutes. She patiently explained the process involved to train my 7-year old Dachshund, who - shame on me - previously had no obedience training. Then Dawn came to my house to meet Max and give her assessment. At the appointed day/time, Dawn arrived and led Max away for a couple of weeks of off-leash training. He's still "at camp" and I'm getting periodic progress reports from Dawn, laced with a little humor. I miss the little guy and am really looking forward to seeing the results! Mark Baker

Yvonne, the trainer, was very good and patient with all the dogs. Each dog brought its own set of issues and she was able to deal with all the problems as presented. She has her own dog in the class which was a shining example of the utmost obedience training. I would recommend the training at puppy tubs. Bring the puppy early (i.e. 8 weeks of age) and often (don't stop after the very basic class session) so you can get an awesome companion animal

Ann Lewis, of Pups to Pooches, is one of the best dog trainers I've ever worked with. She is very knowledgeable about breed temperaments and what motivates individual animals. She is a great person to work with, especially if you have kids and a new dog or puppy because she will work with the entire family and teach kids how to interact with your new pup so there are no conflicts. I can't recommend Pups to Pooches highly enough. I plan to continue doing routine maintenance work to keep my dog challenged.

We are beyond happy with the services from Keith at K9 Solutions. We have a one year old lab mix with extremely high energy and a mind of his own. He did the board and train wth Keith and he is a new pup! Our dog has better control of his energy now understand basic commands and knows we are the pack leaders. Keith at K9 Solutions has been great to work with. He continues to answer questions and keeps in constant contact after the board and train. We are proud to be apart of the K9 Solutions family.

Our family recently worked with Sonja to help us teach our new rescue dog (1.5 years old) some manners. He is the most friendliest dog but would jump on people, play bite things and people, and was extremely hard to take for walks. We have learned so much with Sonja's help and encouragement. Sonja knows her stuff, she is upfront, reliable and always makes herself available for questions. No doubt that Sonja is one of the Best dog trainers around. The whole experience was worth every single penny. Now when friends come over to our home, we hear comments like, "Oh! Your dog is so well behaved." Even during a dinner party, he stayed in his "place" when told to do so. We are so proud of our rescue's accomplishments. He is the best dog ever and thanks to Sonja, everyone can see that when they come into our home or when we are out for a walk.

We took our golden retriever to Bryan and he turned her into an amazing obedient happy dog. She is an older dog and set in her ways, so we thought. Bryan did amazing things for her confidence and the only regret is that we didn't do this sooner! Amazing, happy, worth it!

They were able to train my dog in a way that I can now effectively communicate to him. Previously he would bark at strangers but now he is obedient. I highly recommend them and will consider putting my other dog too.

My dog has been going to Pet's Playhouse on Ponce since she was 6 months old, she is now 7 years old. I take her for daycare several times a week and this is the only place that I will board her since all the staff knows her and she them. Shawn, Keno, and the rest of the staff are well trained to handle the dogs and true professionals when dealing with me. My dog and I have also had Shawn as a trainer (training classes available at Pet's Playhouse on Ponce) and I can always refer questions to him on behavior issues. I use the grooming severices (Squeaky Clean bathing) at least once a month. My dog (a shepherd mix) gets groomed more often when having a shedding blowout (one of the services is de-shedding) and there is no way to tell you how great it is to have less Lois hair in the car and in the house.

Where to begin..? ADZ has transformed 5 month old puppy into something else. I can’t go anywhere without people stopping me to just admire his discipline. Sits, lays down, goes to the bathroom, stops barking, etc. All on command. Yes, it takes one as a owner to continue the practice but it’s a night and day difference. I will never own another dog without it being trained by my ADZ family. It doesn’t stop there. ADZ loves what they do so much that they literally build a relationship with the dogs and their owners. I could keep on going about how great they are. Extremely thankful for them and everything they do!

Chelsea is an excellent trainer. She is reasonably priced and produces amazing results. She treats all of her client's dogs like her own. She is passionate and extreamly knowledgable. I reccomend Chelsea to everyone who is looking for a trainer. Most all other places charge outrageous prices and don't get the results you desire. Chelsea works with you so that you learn how to continue your dogs training after she leaves. She gives details notes about the sessions so that you have all the details in case you forget what she showed you. She answers any question I have and gives genuine advice everytime I reach out to her after our training sessions. She is one of a kind and I am truly blessed to have met her. My boys' lives would not be the same without her.

Damon Clemons I'd the most professional, caring and best dog trainer I have met. He does his job very well. He not only trains the dogs but the owners too. He makes sure that the owners are stable and balance as well as the dog he is training. He really focuses on the dogs needs. He doesn't do just one method with every dog, he works with the dog and then decides what will work best for that dog. If I ever needed another dog trained I would only bring them to Iron Will Dog Training. He is the best of the best!

My 5 month old puppy and I both love working with Kris at Family Dog Training! I went to her looking for basic obedience training, but was thrilled to learn that she is also certified in several areas of dog fitness and agility training! She uses her knowledge to add fun, and safe, exercises which incorporate the basic obedience skills we are learning. This is a great way to have fun with your dog or puppy, and create a stronger bond with your pet!!

Heidi is an amazing dog trainer! She has been helping me and my boyfriend with our pit mix Nash. Since our training has started Nash has learned his indoor boundaries as well as mastered walking on the leash. He has also done well at the dog park socializing with all the dogs. Our ultimate goal is to off leash train and we are on our way!!

    About

I left a lucrative career to follow my passion -- working with animals and providing peace of mind to people and their pets. I have been a lifelong pet owner (dogs, cats, birds, fish, chickens, farm animals and more!) and have several years of experience pet sitting and working in animal rescue, fostering and rehoming. I'm studying to be a veterinary technologist. Are you a little nutty, maybe even considered a crazy person because you love your pets so much? That's okay because I feel the same way. I understand your need to feel secure about who visits and cares for your animals and to be updated as much as you wish on how they are doing while in someone else's care. I tailor my services to you and your pet. I am insured and bonded unlike those friends, neighbors and family members we've all been bugging over the years to help with our pets! I will care for any animal and am not afraid of anything; I love them all. Call me to discuss rates and services; you will find my rates to be very affordable. My goal is to make pet sitting accessible to as many people as possible who want to relax knowing their pets are in good hands.

        Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How old should a puppy be for training?

Dog training shouldn’t wait until you’re having behavior problems. If you get a new puppy, start from the beginning with professional training to give both you and your puppy the tools you need for a healthy relationship. Dog training is as much about teaching the owner how to interact with their new dog as it is about the dog learning to behave. Puppy training can start as early as eight weeks old. Trainers who offer puppy training programs may works specifically with dogs between the ages of 8 and 18 weeks old. Trainers can teach owners about potty training and how to deal with accidents, working with separation anxiety, and training your pooch out of destructive behaviors like chewing, biting and demand barking. Puppies will start to learn to walk on-leash and other basic skills.

In addition to behavior training, socializing your puppy is an important part of dog training. Socializing your dog means they become comfortable and confident in a variety of settings and have a great foundation for becoming a well-adjusted adult dog. After your puppy has had the proper vaccinations, you can start to introduce it to a variety of different dogs and people in safe settings.

Which dog training method is best?

The best type of dog training for both you and your dog depends on the outcomes you hope to achieve. If you want your dog to learn agility training, go to someone who specializes in those techniques. Regardless of whether you want your dog to learn basic behavior or competitive-level tricks, the majority of dog training is actually about training the owner how to communicate with their dog. Most professional dog trainers agree that a model of training based on positive reinforcement breeds a happy, healthy, well-adjusted dog. The alternative to positive reinforcement training is using force or aggression techniques like physical punishment or shock-collar training to get the dog to do (or not do) a behavior. While the dog may learn how to behavior as you direct, it is also learning to communicate with force and aggression, and will in turn use those behaviors on other dogs (or people) that are smaller or weaker than it is. Before signing up with a dog trainer, meet with the trainer and ask for references. Watch the trainer interact with your dog, and make sure they treat your dog with patience and firm kindness. Ask them questions about their training methods:

        • What type of training methods do you use?
        • What is your background and training, and how did you become a dog trainer?
        • How long do you expect that we will work together before we achieve the results I’m after?

How long does it take to train a puppy?

Dog training depends on the dog and how much homework the dog owner is willing to put in. Puppy training is similar to dog training in that the onus of the work depends on the owner learning new ways to interact with their dog. For a quick crash course, you can opt for a single, two hour smart-start puppy training consultation to teach you the ins and outs of being a new dog parent. You can learn how to manage potty training and what to do if the puppy experiences separation anxiety. As long as you’re willing to work on dog training a little bit each day, your puppy will quickly learn these new behaviors. If you’re not confident about training your puppy yourself, you can enroll in a 6- to 8-week puppy training course, with weekly lessons touching on everything from bite control to obedience. Puppies usually need to be at least three months old for group training classes. If you want more intensive one-on-one work, you can opt for private lessons. Some behavior problems can be resolved in one session if the dog owner learns and can implement new skills. In the case of more serious issues, 3 to 10 private sessions can typically correct challenges.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
