Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much do house cleaners cost in Atlanta?

The best house cleaners in Atlanta charge between $80 and $135. However, this cost is subject to change at any time and will vary depending on your needs. For example, the type of cleaning you need may impact the price. A standard cleaning, move-out cleaning or deep cleaning will likely all have different costs. Also, some cleaners charge different prices based on the number of bedrooms, and others offer extra services such as window or appliance cleaning. If you have something special that needs to be cleaned, such as mold, be sure to check with your house cleaner to see how much they charge.

Please note: All cost estimates are accurate at time of writing and are subject to change. For the most accurate, up-to-date cost estimates for your specific project, get free estimates from pros near you.

How do I choose the best house cleaning service in Atlanta?

When searching for the best house cleaning or maid service in Atlanta, read house cleaning reviews and look for the photos of the companies’ past work. Also, if you see a Top Pro badge in a house cleaner’s profile, this is a sign that the house cleaner is one of the most top-rated cleaners on Thumbtack.

Atlanta homeowners should also consider their home type, budget and industry experience when looking for the best cleaning service. For example, because Atlanta is known for its hot and muggy summers, it’s a good idea to ask the cleaner or service what type of experience they have with preventing and cleaning mold inside homes.

How much does office cleaning cost?

Office cleaning costs an average of $200, but prices can range depending on the square footage. An office that’s 1,000 square feet or smaller costs $120 to clean. Meanwhile, spaces that range from 9,000-10,000 square feet cost $880, on average.

You can get a personalized cost estimate for your office or commercial space by contacting commercial cleaners near you.

What’s the best way to set up a consultation or an appointment with a house cleaner during the COVID-19 pandemic?

The best way to set up a consultation with a house cleaner during the COVID-19 pandemic is by using virtual, online tools. Start by performing an online search for local house cleaners. Message them to set up either a phone call or video call to perform a consultation. During this call, they can give you recommendations and may be able to estimate the cost of their services. Be sure to discuss whether they accept virtual payments and any precautions they can take to perform the job safely.

Are there ways to be safe if I hire a house cleaner when social distancing?

If you hire a house cleaner to clean the inside of your home, do not make physical contact. Stay at least 6 feet apart at all times, sanitize any surfaces after cleaning and wash your hands thoroughly. Exchange all payments digitally instead of with cash. When contacting a house cleaner, put a plan in place to ensure everyone's safety.

How can I find out if a house cleaner is considered an essential COVID-19 service provider?

A house cleaner is generally not considered an essential service sector during the coronavirus pandemic. To find out which services are considered essential, visit your city and state government, and read their guidelines. A national list of essential service providers can be found on CISA’s Identifying Critical Infrastructure During COVID-19 site. This webpage lists 16 different infrastructure sectors considered to be essential. However, not all jurisdictions follow CISA’s definitions of critical infrastructure.

Can I use digital payments to pay for house cleaning?

Not only do many house cleaners accept digital payments through platforms like Zelle, PayPal, Square Cash, Google Pay, Venmo and more, but this may become more common as the COVID-19 pandemic pushes more service workers to digitize. This means you can pay your house cleaner without making physical contact or handling money.

If cleaning is absolutely essential during the current crisis, consult with the house cleaner beforehand to ensure a safe monetary transaction that complies with current government guidelines and recommendations for social distancing.

How much do maids or house cleaners make in Atlanta?

While specific maid salaries depend on factors such as education, certification and other skills, the average salary of housekeepers and maids in the Atlanta area is $21,350 annually or about $10.26 per hour. This is lower than the current $25,570 national average for maids and housekeepers, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Does a house cleaner need to enter my home?

Yes, in almost all cases a house cleaner needs to enter your home. However, a cleaner may not need to enter your home if they are solely cleaning outside areas.

There may be some cases in which a cleaner is necessary. If so, take precautions — avoid being in the same room, make no physical contact, sanitize any surfaces and pay through a digital service instead of using cash.

Do house cleaners offer remote or virtual services?

House cleaning is generally done in person, but some may be willing to offer remote services. If you find a house cleaner’s profile that states they’re offering remote services, contact the pro to talk about your options.

If you’d rather hire a house cleaner to clean your home when the pandemic is over, you may be able to book an appointment at a later date. Start by comparing local house cleaners in your area side-by-side.

Blissful Cleaning did an EXCELLENT job. From getting cobwebs from the corners of the ceilings to cleaning baseboards, it was a job well done!

She is still cleaning in my home as I write this. My home has never been cleaner. Paula is a detail oriented person. She cleaned my trash can!!! And the wall behind the trash can. (Because it needed it). Things that I would not think about doing, she did. Cleaned my ceiling and ceiling fans. I cannot say enough good about Paula and her daughter who helped her. GREAT job! She has now become my regular home cleaner.

The two sisters came---on-time---and immediately got to work. They cleaned each room together, and even cleaned around me and my work. They dusted, vacuumed, cleaned the bathrooms, my hardwood floors, dusted the ceiling fans. The house smells and looks wonderful. I am going to hire them for cleaning my home every two weeks.

First of she let me hang on the day that we agreed on and came a day later. In general, be very specific what you want to have cleaned as a deep clean/move in cleaning does not automatically means every will be cleaned. My doors and vents where still dirty. One room got completely forgotten and the agreed-on kitchen cabinets needed reminding to! Not to mention that i still had spiderwebs where in the ceiling corners......

During my daughter’s move, we simply ran out of time to clean the apartment my daughter was leaving. After reviewing several companies that could come within a day’s notice, I chose Suave. I would hands down call him again! His work was phenomenal! The apartment look incredible, hardwood floors looks great, bathrooms were sparkling clean! The oven, fridge and ceiling fans also looked fantastic. His deep clean truly was a deep clean! It takes a lot for me to be blown away and Suave did! Also, he was extremely polite, punctual, professional and very timely in his communications.

Overall house was cleaned and I appreciated the look and some area which was done very well like most baths, fridge, inside cabinets. Also I liked their carpet vacuumed cleaning. However, from deep clean move-in job for a vacant home I expected more attention to details. I rather, job inspected at the beginning and give relatively accurate time and cost estimate so we set mutual expectation. Jen and her partner spent 7 hours-2people, but it seems at the end they had to rush. So floor was poorly mopped and two closets and one bath tub was missed. I checked one ceiling fan I got dust and dirt on my hand and also from several blinds. Oven walls were not cleaned well either to my expectations. Some may have been missed and some may needed more time. I suggest here having proper material like oven cleaner, small ladder may help cleaning speed and quality. Some places needed to be scrubbed or double wet-wiped rather than quick wiped or feather dusted like inside oven or ceiling fan or blinds. I rather to trust the cleaner such that I do not need to spend time and go check every where like every fan or blind or closet. I think they are good but for deep clean move-in need some more improvement will help.

I was pretty disappointed with their overall job performance. I was under the impression that when you hire someone to clean your home dusting ceiling fans, window seals, cabinets, etc.. would automatically be apart of the job description. But unfortunately I was made aware that it was not. For an additional fee for what they considered deep cleaning they included that type of cleaning. I agreed to pay the additional cost and after about 3 ½ to 4 hours to were done. On a side note I wasn't there to oversee their job wife was. And since she didn't have her contacts on at the time it was A LOT that she overlooked. Typically we do our own cleaning but since we were in the process of putting our home on the open market we opted to have it professionally cleaned; unfortunately for us professionally clean is not what our hard earned money bought us. We spent about 2½ hours cleaning/dusting later that evening. My wife did however give them high marks for being professional and courteous while in our home. They just did a subpar job when it came to cleaning. I hope your experience will be better than our.

Dorcea immediately gives off great energy as a person. She was friendly, understanding of our situation, and her expertise was very apparent. We are moving into a new rental home, and unfortunately, the move-in cleaning performed previously by another service was just unacceptable (clumps of hair on window sills, visible dust on the ceiling, light fixtures filled with dead bugs, black gunk in the dishwasher, and so many other things). It supposedly took that other company 8 hours to do a mediocre job. We sought out services from Modo Cleaning to do the job right, and they did an extraordinary job in less than half the time. To say we were pleased is an understatement! Dorcea empathized with our frustration, carefully paid attention to our requests, and fulfilled them beyond our expectations. Her attention to detail was exceptional, and we found the place in immaculate condition when she was done. SHE. KNOWS. HER. S***. For future services, we would go back to Modo Cleaning with no hesitation and happily refer them to anyone who needs a cleaning job done well!

I'm so pleased with the quality and care that this cleaning juggernaut extended to the task of cleaning my home. Weeks later, my home is still far cleaner than my own relatively thorough cleaning tactics produce. I felt immediately at ease with the crew and I didn't have to worry about a thing for the entirety of the job. I realize now how important having a trustworthy cleaning company is for mental health and self care. Delegating this task out cost far less monetarily than doing it myself would have cost me in stress and anxiety. Beyond that, my home is now immaculate from floor to ceiling, my mirrors and chandeliers shined like diamonds and my bathroom looks like a spa. I had a small ink spot on my sofa from my carelessness (and subsequent procrastination to thoroughly remove) which is miraculously gone. I'm pretty sure he caulked or something too because even that looks better! All in all, I respect this young entrepreneur's drive and determination to let his work speak for himself. This cleaning venture is new to Georgia but not new to cleaning and home organization in general. I'm so glad I didn't let the small number of reviews dissuade me from giving them a try. I love supporting great people, small businesses that support community connectivity and community growth. This company does so much to help the community so hiring them really extends well beyond just the job you pay for. That is something truly unique we should all find a way to support. I wholeheartedly recommend this company.

I found Leal based on the great reviews. They arrived exactly when they said they would, even letting me know they were en route. I gave them a tour and they got to work. After about 2.5 hours, Leal had our house looking the best it's ever looked! They cleaned my embarrassingly dusty ceiling fan, AC vents, baseboards, stainless appliances. Our hardwood floors look great! They even cleaned the goo off the soap dish. I did acrobatics so as not to disturb the perfect vacuum lines in the carpet. My friend was so impressed that she asked for their card. I've worked with several cleaning services and they never get things quite to my standards. Leal left me with no complaints! There are spots in my house where I thought, Surely they didn't dust here.... But they did! I am a loyal customer now! This is a husband and wife team who obviously take pride in their work and seem to be just good people. So thankful for them! I've attached a photo- no dust on window frames or anywhere! They vacuumed the upholstery! And check those floors. Seriously, so glad I hired them.

I'm sorry to have to leave this review, but after surveying the job the cleaning lady from Braga's did in our home, and considering the experience with the company today, I need folks to know how this company operates. To begin with, I was told a team would arrive for a deep clean of our house. This would make sense, as it's a 4 bed 3 bath. I specified that fact, along with lots of other details, in my booking request on Thumbtack. At the appointed time, 1 person, a young lady, showed up at my door. She spoke almost no English. Braga's description on Thumbtack claims they observe strict COVID protocols. This is not true. This young lady arrived without a mask, and seemed surprised when I asked her wear one (I was already wearing mine). So we had to stand outside my home on my front stoop while she called [someone? a relative? another cleaner? this person never introduced themselves] to translate what I wanted done in the home. This person spoke only marginally better English than the cleaning lady. I still only understood maybe 70% of what she said. But she clearly had not read my booking details on Thumbtack. I had to repeat how many beds and baths, what we wanted done, what we didn't want done. I want to pause here and note that this is a company that thinks it's acceptable to send a very young woman, alone, to a stranger's house for 3-4 hours of work. I raised this point with a manager after the cleaning lady left, and she apologized profusely, saying they had a staffing issue. I pointed out they could have easily rescheduled for a time when they could have sent a full team, including an English speaker, and thereby helped ensure the safety of their staff. She just apologized, and offered to send the lady back to finish anything I was unsatisfied with. I declined, as I wanted to just be finished with the process at that point. As for the actual cleaning job, the lady did an acceptable basic clean. On further inspection, after I was able to take the time to walk around the house once she'd left, I surmised that this was NOT a deep clean. Baseboards still had tangible dust and debris on them. Not all windows had been cleaned. Ceiling fans had not been dusted. This is not the standard I expect when I pay for a deep clean, and I paid over $300 for this service. UPDATED: I am revising this review and adding one star because the company was very proactive about apologizing and offering to complete the job correctly. They sent 3 cleaners the second time around, all masked and very responsive when I asked for a diligent deep clean based on the problem areas I pointed out. I still believe it should not have taken two tries to get this right, as it ended up taking twice as much time for me. (I work from home and have to pause work when cleaners are in the house.) But the second team was prompt, professional, and committed to doing a good job. You can count on this company to be communicative.
