Introduction: DANCE TECHNIQUES, SKILLS and STYLES Balance: To hold your body at an angle or to hold your arms and legs in a certain position as you spin, step, turn or move. Spin/Spinning: To turn or spin on the ball joints or heel of the foot or hand. Momentum: To maintain a certain speed while the body spins while hold your balance. Moves: The point of moves in a routine or solo; to step; move your arms and legs; spin or bend with a count or saying. For example: “1,2…1,2,3...up, down…turn around” Wave: To move your arms and/or body in a water flow (wave) of currency from one end of the body to the other. Pop: To pop is to snap a part of your body in a hard popping motion. Lock: To do straight points, bends and moves in combinations at a time. Jitt (Detroit Style): To do the Jitt (short for jitt-a-bug) are a combination of leg movements in a particular step. The Jitt is usually done from waist down unless upper the upper body is used to help leg movements. Glide: To push off with one foot and the catch the other foot in a smooth motion and sometimes connect with a hand, arm, and body motion. Funk-a-teer: Short leg movements, as well as foot movements. The legs are always moving in a vibration-like movement. Die-a-Bolicals: To hit or slap yourself on parts of the body with a count; to make the routine tight, as well as to move or turn. Body Moves: To move your mid-sections of your body; to stretch, roll, wave, and move your body in a circular and wave-like motion. Break Dance: To do countless moves and steps on and above the floor; to spin, roll, flip, twist, and drop with moves on the floor (break down each move…coming soon). CLASSES Beginners Class “The Walk Up”; a combination of all moves and dances put together with a count and saying in order to program the student to the “Cosmic Style”. Routines are broken down into (4) parts and (4) sessions. Mid-Level Class Individually learning and using the techniques, skills and styles, so that each move can be used correctly. Advance Classes Showing and doing routines in full motion with counts and sayings. Body Moves Practice using the body in a wave or circular-like motion. To stretch muscles not ordinarily used. Break Dance See Mid-Level Classes Slow Routines Using body moves and moves to a particular song for that routine I. Choreography A. Take all dance styles combined to a perfect count for routines for music videos, showcases, talent showers, etc. B. Train student to become choreographers themselves
