I have a great memory for details. I'll highlight the "dark van" on page 99 that (somehow) becomes a "black SUV" by page 171 and leave a note so the author can fix that discrepancy. I hunt down facts so that the author is not embarrassed after publication by being told, for example, that WWII soldiers’ coffins didn't come home on a plane.
Yes, I fix definite errors, but I also mark awkward phrases and suggest how to make smoother prose. It's the author's decision about what to do.
Everyone has had a teacher mark up a paper so they're familiar with that process, although I'm much kinder as an editor than I was as a teacher. GRANTS, however, are different. Few customers here have written a grant; even fewer have ever hired a professional to write a grant. Along with my skills at grant writing, I'm creative and resourceful in identifying grant opportunities and in recognizing untapped possibilities for income streams.
