Doug is an excellent therapist. He deeply understands the human experience and has a unique approach. Having that said, he can be brash, and interrupts clients often which can feel a bit disrespectful. I was referred to as a “loud-mouth” a few times in front of my adult children while in sessions, which was said in passing as humor, but didn’t help our situation.
It is my feeling that there are times when those habits can translate as humor and being very comfortable in a safe relationship. However, there are also times when it simply does damage and creates distrust. Unfortunately, that is what happened at the end of our last session leading me to discontinue.
Having this said, Doug is truly talented and skilled at his craft. He can be very effective in helping families that fit within his style of communication.

To anyone on the fence about couples therapy with Doug Miller, rest assured he is truly the best at what he does and I would highly recommend him to anyone in need of such services. I had initial consultations with various couples therapists. After my consultation with Doug Miller, my partner and I were sold. He is very knowledgeable. What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
Because I am getting started on Thumbtack, I am offering a sliding scale for a limited time.
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
We start with either a no cost phone call or a 20 minute no cost video, which helps you get to know how I work and I get to know more about you. I will ask various questions to get to know what is happening for you and what you want from therapy. Then, we will schedule an hour session as soon as convenient.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
BA with High Honors in Psychology from Clark University, minors in Biology and Comparative Cognitive Anthropology. MA and PhD in Clinical Psychology from Georgia State University. In total, 40 years of a wide range of training and experience and I have developed my own approaches, like many seasoned therapists.
