My husband and I hired Render to watch our dog Bridgette for us while we were away on vacation. To make a long story shorter we had a great experience! Our dog is much older and so we tend to worry about her when we leave her behind. Render made that whole process feel so much more comfortable. She sent us picture of Bridgette and kept us up to date on how she doing the whole time we were away. Render is also very likeable and incredibly professional. Whenever I called her or emailed She responded immediately. She was always available to me and when our Bridgette got sick a couple of days ago she checked in on us and left us notes of encouragement. Honestly, I can't say enough nice things about her. I would recommend her to anyone! She was so attentive with our dog. She's a hard worker and loves animals. What more could anyone ask for. Don't even hesitate to call her if you need a pet sitter.

I have had the BEST experience with Stephanie and Zen Dog. My dogs are my babies and I am hesitant to let just anyone care for them, but I was instantly comfortable with Stephanie and knew I could trust her!! I had emailed several companies but honestly, even through email, I really had a gut feeling that Stephanie was someone who would take excellent care of my pups--I think animal lovers can just sense that quality in other animal lovers, and Stephanie has it and put me at ease right away!! Not only can it be nerve-wracking to let someone else care for your pets, but also to let a stranger into your home when you are gone--but I did not think twice about it after meeting her, she was wonderful! Last week, I was in desperate need of help due to a last minute trip and had ONE day to find someone--Stephanie responded within an hour and fit me in the NEXT day. She was on time, GREAT with the dogs, and extremely dependable. I emailed her for updates while I was out of town and she responded immediately. She left notes with updates every day for my husband (who was in town but working very late) which was so thoughtful! Her prices are very fair and competitive and she even threw in a little doggie massage for my babies. Even though I only planned to use her services while I was out of town, I have already booked her to come back again for several long work days--the dogs loved her! I only wish that I could hire her to come live at my house with my animals for the next time that I am out of town!! From one pet fanatic to another, I HIGHLY recommend her. Look no further for someone to care for your pets, hire her, your pets will thank you and you will not regret it!!!!!!!!!

The dog walking and daily check in is underway, daily. Mark was very engaging from the get go, quick to respond and flexible understanding the adoption delay. He and Dan met me on the weekend to get to know my 5 year old rescue beagle. Each week I go online and book the days (and times) for the upcoming week. It's extremely easy, they are most flexible. You can book one off if you prefer but I like a batch charge on Sundays. In one week, no accidents with the pup, sleeps a ton, and loves her time with Dan.

Just had my initial visit with Kate and I am absolutely sold. She is extremely knowledgeable and experienced. My dog, Baxter, is a rescue and came to my home with noticeable anxiety and I had no clue how to help him. My visit with Kate and her recommendations give me great confidence that she can really help Baxter & I. I am excited to continue our training and shape my dog to be as amazing as I know he can be.

Sarah does an amazing job taking care of Isabelle and Marvin when needed. She goes above and beyond by ensuring that your beloved furry friends are taken care when your unable to. We have been using various dog walkers for almost 3 years now and she is by far the best. Do not think twice Sarah is the best!

We went on vacation for a week, and Lori took great care of our small dog and cat. They were happy to see her upon returning with our key after we got home, which is always a nice sign. She also sent pictures of them which was a sweet surprise.

Kimberly is awesome!! Honestly, I don't know what our family would do without her. We travel quite a bit and she always keeps our dog ... even though he's been naughty a few times. I know when Scruffy is with Kimberly I don't have to worry about his health or safety. I also know he's as happy as can be and isn't trapped in a crate at the vet or home alone getting into trouble. I trust her 100%. I'm able to enjoy my time away without worry or fear. Thanks Kimberly! You are the BEST!

Gary is very organized and dependable. He is very attentive to my two dogs and is trustworthy and honest. I would recommend Gary to anyone who is interested in a good dog walker. I have had quirky dog walkers in the past. I can always be assured that things will be in order when I return home. No mess, no extra trash, no broken items. Also, Gary knows that I don't need a poop report or a report card when I come home but I am sure he'd be willing to do it if you need. He does his job and does it well.

Working in Alpharetta and living in Midtown makes it difficult for me to give my 60 lb. dog the time and attention he needs throughout the day. Anita has been a great resource for our family. She makes sure Liam gets to burn off pent up energy, as well as provides affection before she leaves. I always get a picture of his smiling face, and that gives me the peace of mind that my furbaby is happy. I highly recommend her.

Walks are going well and my dog is happy

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What does a dog walker do?

We all know our dogs love going on long, adventure-filled walks, but jobs and family and commuting can make it difficult to give them the leash time they deserve. You can hire a professional dog walker to make sure your furry friend gets adequate exercise and outdoor time each day. A professional dog walker may be an individual contractor or work for a dedicated dog-walking company. In either case, you want to make sure the pro has the appropriate insurance in case of an emergency. Some people opt to give the dog walker a key to their house; others to have them pick up the dog from the yard. Dog walking can happen as often as multiple times per day, or just a few times a month as needed. Here are some questions to ask when you are interviewing a new dog walker:

  • Will you or someone else be walking my dog?
  • Do you have a backup plan if you can’t make it for a scheduled walk?
  • Will you walk my dog by itself, or do you walk several dogs at once?
  • What are your different walk routes?
  • When will you pick up and drop off?
  • How will we communicate?
  • Do I have to commit to a schedule or are you flexible?
  • What’s your cancellation policy?
  • What’s your response plan if my dog gets injured or becomes sick?
  • How and how often do I pay you?
  • Do you offer package pricing if I buy multiple dog walks up front?

How much do dog walkers charge?

The cost of dog walking depends on several factors including length and frequency of dog walks, the number of dogs on the walk, distance to your house, and any additional services you request. The national average cost range for a dog walk is $10-$20, but that price will vary based on where you live in the country and the regional cost of living and doing business.

The longer the dog walk, the higher your costs will be. Dog walkers offer a range of walk lengths, from 15-minute potty breaks to long hikes of 120 minutes or more. For example, a dog walker may charge $15 for a 15-minute walk and $35 for a 35-minute walk. Requesting that your dog be the only animal on the walk will typically mean a higher cost than if you permit your dog to be walked in a pack of dogs. You may be able to get a discounted rate if you have more than one dog to be walked. For example, a professional dog walker may charge $28 for one dog or $33 for two dogs on a 60-minute walk. If you need additional help — like feeding the dogs or giving them medication — dog walkers may be able to provide this service at an additional fee. Dog walkers may charge higher rates for walking your dogs on holidays.
