Kim C. says, "Update: I have changed my review to 4 stars after the Owner, Thomas, called me directly and we came to an agreement on a refund. I truly appreciated his understanding and willingness to do so. I do hope he educates his employees on situations like this, so it doesn’t happen in the future. The 4 stars is because of how the employee, Eden, handled the whole situation, which could have been handled much better. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY…I will take some fault in this, but Eden was the technician sent out to diagnose 3 gas fireplaces that weren’t lighting up. We bought the house a few years ago and have never used the fireplaces and had the gas turned off to them. When we went to turn them on, we couldn’t get them to light. Eden said that they had to replace parts in all 3 fireplaces and they were $1500 a kit. I asked him what was wrong with them but he wasn’t sure. In order to order the parts and get me on the schedule, I had to put 50% deposit down. He never told me is was non refundable. As soon as I got the receipt it said no refunds. I immediately reached out to the owner and said I wanted to cancel the order and wanted to get another opinion and that I wasn’t confident in Eden’s diagnosis. The manager told me to have faith in his company and that they were highly reputable. Today, a subcontractor came out and he was there for 10 minutes all to tell me that in order for the gas to light the logs, the vent has to be open. Eden either is not knowledgable enough in his job or he was looking to make a quick buck. There was absolutely nothing working with the fireplaces. Now Eden has refused to give me a refund of the $2250 deposit I gave him. I told him I’m happy to pay for his time and the subcontractors time but he said he would not be giving me a refund because they fixed the problem. Mind you they used absolutely none of the $1500 kits they initially ordered. He is telling me they did $2250 worth of work. I have never had a problem with hiring contractors in Thumbtack, but this company is only looking to make a quick penny. I think you can see that is a repeating theme amongst other reviews…trying to make money and not actually run an honest, reputable company. I will also be contacting the BBB to file a complaint. When Spencer came out to our home he ended up not charging us because it was a simple issue with our gas fireplace. He was professional, answered all our questions, and provided us with options for future upgrades. I will definitely be reaching back out in the future if we need our fireplace serviced or decide to upgrade."See more
