Ben Goheen, the "Neighborhood Plumber," is one of those professionals whose card you keep at the top of the stack and never lose. He was recommended by a good electrician we've used, and has done excellent work for us at our home in Lithonia, Georgia. Most recently, he came over right away when we saw what looked like leaking from a main floor bathroom into the lower level drop ceiling. He was able to diagnose the problem quickly, something no one in the house (including the previous owner) had done before, and helped us take care of it very economically. He explained everything he did as well. As if that wasn't enough, my wife discovered leaking in the lower level kitchen, and it got worse. She called Ben late in the evening, and he came by early the next morning. The problem was a sewage pump clog, and once again Ben worked his magic and fixed it. He also took a trip to Home Depot to get a fan and humidifier for us (we'd have been pretty useless on the trip) and set them up. I think this is 4 or 5 jobs that Ben's taken care of now, and all of them extremely well. Add in a friendly and professional approach, and you have a star.

Hunter did a fantastic job. He dropped what he was doing on a Saturday to help me deal with a leak and still charged me a very reasonable price. I’d have paid double if I went with one of the big plumbing companies. He was very knowledgeable and took care of the issue quickly. I’ll definitely use him again.

Mr. Johnson did an excellent job installing my bathroom sink. Though the previous installation was done wrong, he fixed it and secured it so no further damage would occur. He also made a repair to my kitchen sink and had the tools needed ready and available. I would definitely hire again.

Willie and Matthew did a great job for us. I had some projects around the house that I couldn't do myself. I wanted to switch a bathroom door around to open a different way. I got Willie's info from Thumbtack, called Willie and spoke to him on Monday evening, he came the very next day on Tuesday and completed everything to our satisfaction. I would definitely use Willie again.

Mr Hood was very punctual for each appointment and had excellent follow up skills. He was polite with every conversation and completed the work he committed to. He dry walled, tiled, and finished my laundry room and it looks great. I love it every time I walk in. We are having him back for roof work and quoting a bathroom project.

I ordered my vinyl from a box store so it took a bit longer to start project. Once product arrived, Dustin picked up supplies; arrived in a timely manner; proceeded to lay vinyl in kitchen then a bathroom, was finished shortly after 1 PM. Floors look great! Quick, Efficient. No clean up for me after installation. Dustin was polite, friendly and professional. A very good experience. I would highly recommend Courtesy Flooring for your home improvement project.

We needed odd and end things done - bathroom faucet replaced, door threshold replaced, hole in ceiling fixed, and dishwasher set. He did great work - very thorough. You could tell he took pride in his work. Plus, he was very friendly and seemed to enjoy what he does.

What a great company to deal with. I've used them now on 3 different projects. The first was a bathroom remodel. The work was completed ahead of schedule and I have a beautiful bathroom now. It was so nice to have a worker who cleaned up after himself everyday, never leaving a mess behind.

I hired Tom for a tile job in my bathroom. Let's just say he is my new "Go To" guy for any and all of my home renovations! First, Tom was a pleasure to speak with. Even before we met, Tom would call and text me assisting me through the process. As well as assisting me with tile selection (all of this before the job started). Secondly, Tom was very prompt and started the job as promised. He communicated whenever he was arriving and always arrived as scheduled. Third, His work quality is simply the BEST! He is a true Pro! There were some challenges with my plumbing that would have added more cost, however Tom came up with a solution that saved me (from hiring a plumber), and looks GREAT! Finally, Tom left the area clean and always cleaned up behind himself. He was aware of my flooring and made sure to not mess up my hard woods (by laying down padding and blankets), and then cleaned before he left. All and all, Tom was awesome. And beyond all of the above items, he was a pleasure to work with. Felt as if we have known each other all our lives. I incourage anyone looking to hire a Pro to hire Tom!

I hired Andy to do some electrical work with hanging a light fixture in my closet where I was not certain the breaker for that closest ceiling had been successfully disconnected from my main circuit breaker for the house. He was very personable and prefessional at diagnosing the issue, and was quite skillful in getting everything installed and tested within only a matter of minutes. While he was at my home he went beyond the service I had hired him for, and helped me with figuring out a plumbing issue I was having as well. I plan to hire him again as soon as I'm ready to upgrade my bathroom faucets! I highly recommend his services!

I had my master bathroom remodel and the backsplash in my kitchen done. Leo and his team were awesome. They are professionals and perfectionists! They were on time and an easy to work with. My bathroom was done in 2 and 1/2 weeks and that's demolishing the shower down to the frame. We love the look of our bathroom and the backsplash! We already have another project planned that Leo will be doing for us next year.

Mayk Sousa & his crew completed what was expected to be a 2 day flooring demo and laminate install in just one day. The laminate is tight, the moulding looks clean, and they even cleaned everything up at the end. As new homeowners, we were nervous with our first major project, but it was executed perfectly. (Photos are from when the work was in progress.) I would hire them again in a heartbeat for flooring needs. Thanks to Mayk for a job well done.

WS Flooring did a good job on our flooring work in our house. This included installation of new hardwoods (in formerly carpeted rooms), stripping and refinishing existing hardwoods (to match the new ones) and installation of new carpet in remainder of the house. WS worked with us to provide the specific carpet product we wanted (which we'd been shown by another flooring contractor). WS was responsive, honest and flexible with what we wanted and worked around our scheduling. Pricing was good value. We had received 3 separate quotes for identical work. WS ensured we were happy and fully satisfied prior to accepting payment. I would not hesitate to hire WS again for another flooring job.

Overall I am very pleased with the way my gate turned out. The only hiccup was when Keith came out he quoted me a price which I assumed was for labor and materials. Turns out it was for only labor. Yes it was stated on my quote, but everything was done on his mobile phone to process our transaction. I did not open the quote to review. We talked and it seemed great so I hired him. It has been a very rare event to have a contractor come to my house and only quote me labor and if they did, they specifically mentioned it to me while talking. I should have asked, but I felt like Keith should have stated it was for labor only. In the end Keith ate half the cost ($150 roughly) of the materials to make it right which was very much appreciated.

Provin USA is great to work with and do the best stone work in Georgia. They are competitively priced but it is the workmanship that really sets them apart. I chose them over 4 other counter top contractors because were the most professional and guided me through the whole process with ease. I have done multiple projects with them with great success. How do I plan a bathroom remodeling project?

If you’re stumped on how to plan a bathroom remodeling project, it pays to hire a designer. This is especially important if you’re changing your bathroom layout in any way. Designers create contractor-friendly drawings indicating exactly where each tile and fixture will be installed, down to the light switches. This investment might cost you $300-$500 but save you significant frustration and miscommunication, while ensuring you get precisely what you want.

If you’re going to do your own design, planning a bathroom remodeling project means being organized and planning ahead. Create a general outline of what you want and the budget you have. Identify the specific fixtures, tiles, paint and vanity you prefer. Get all this organized before requesting quotes from two to three reputable general contractors. Once you find the right pro, get a written contract outlining scope of work, materials that will be used, timeframe and payment schedule. Communicate clearly about when to order your materials so they are ready and waiting by the time the contractor gets the permits. Your job from here is to communicate clearly, pay the contractor as the work progresses, and enjoy your remodel when it’s done.

Where should I start when remodeling a bathroom?

Bathroom remodeling doesn’t have to be overwhelming. Before starting a bathroom remodel it’s crucial to know what you want and have a clear understanding of your maximum budget. If you’d love all marble fixtures but have $3,000 total, you will have to compromise. Being realistic about materials and money before you even contact a contractor will have you on the road to success. Here are some simple steps to follow in the planning stages of bathroom remodeling:

    • List your remodeling priorities in order of importance (e.g., 1. New shower head, 2. Replace flooring, 3. Install recessed lighting, etc.).
    • Calculate what you can realistically afford to spend on your bathroom remodel. Identify an “all in” price — meaning the absolute maximum you’re willing to pay, as well as what you’d prefer to spend.
    • Gather ideas from Pinterest about colors and finishes.
    • Research the costs of the materials and finishes you want and begin making choices about what is and isn’t possible to fit into your budget (once labor is included). If you’d like to stay under $10,000 total, but really love a $2,000 tub, plan to downgrade in other areas.
    • Request quotes from at least three reputable general contractors, share your vision and ideal materials, and work together from there.

How long should a bathroom remodel take?

With proper planning and a good general contractor, your bathroom remodeling project doesn’t have to take forever. The construction phase of the project will always vary based on your scope of work, the square footage and the condition of your bathroom under the surface layer. Inevitably an 80-square-foot master bathroom with major changes will take longer than a 25-square-foot guest bath undergoing a minor renovation. For a smaller bathroom, a facelift — the industry term for sprucing up the surface layer (such as paint, vanity, tiles or light fixtures) but keeping the existing footprint of the space — may take five to eight working days, as long as there are no surprises like mold waiting when the old vanity comes out. A more complex bathroom remodel that revamps the shower area (customizing the plumbing, installing tile and changing the shower door), updates the flooring and cabinetry, and adds new paint and new lighting could take anywhere from one week to three weeks. A full bathroom remodel that guts the room, changing the footprint and moving the electrical wiring and plumbing lines, could take four to eight weeks or more. To keep your bathroom remodel on schedule, have your materials ordered and waiting, and don’t make any change orders once construction begins. Planning is key to keeping a bathroom remodel on schedule.

How do I remodel my bathroom?

Bathroom remodeling is made up of three general phases. The first phase is the planning and permitting phase, in which you determine exactly what you want, what materials and finishes will be used, and what the end product will look like. If you’re competent with design you can handle the planning yourself, or you may hire an interior designer to guide you. During this phase you’ll also hire a general contractor who can help execute your remodel vision, coordinating and overseeing all the subcontractors required to do the bathroom remodeling (plumbers, flooring pros, etc.). When your plan is finalized, your contractor should obtain permits for the work you want done. During this time you’ll work together to order all the materials so they’ll be ready and waiting when it’s time to start construction.

The second phase is construction. Bathroom remodeling typically starts with demolition, removing the old floors, shower and vanity to make way for the new. Delays in delivery of materials, or changing your mind and ordering different materials halfway into the project, will mean that construction has to pause until the new materials arrive. Each subcontractor is dependent on the next to do their work, and the general contractor should keep things moving along at the proper timeline, ensuring that the right materials are available and dealing promptly with any unexpected repairs, such as damage discovered behind the walls or under the floor. The general contractor will also coordinate inspections from the necessary officials if you’ve moved load-bearing walls or done electrical or plumbing work. After construction is complete, the final phase of bathroom remodeling is addressing your punch list. These are all the items that need to be corrected before final payment is handed over to the contractor.

How much does it cost to remodel a bathroom?

Nationally, the average cost of bathroom remodeling is $14,000. Bathroom remodels can vary widely, from standard makeovers to luxurious master bathroom revamps. The factors that affect your bathroom remodeling cost are the finishes you choose (marble tiles can cost 20 times as much as standard subway tiles), the square footage of the project, regional labor rates in your area and the scope of work. Changing the layout or size of the bathroom will also raise costs. Moving electrical wiring and plumbing lines will also dramatically increase costs, as you’ll need to hire plumbers and electricians to handle the work. What’s happening behind your walls and under your floor will also affect bathroom remodeling cost: Rot, damage or mold can lead to additional work and charges. Overall, bathroom remodeling may offer great return on investment and also improve your daily life. Here are some examples of average bathroom remodeling costs:

    • 6-foot by 6-foot bathroom remodel: $3,500, including labor and materials.
    • Standard renovation: $6,500-$10,000. Price includes labor and materials the customer has purchased. Labor may include taking out the shower and shower pan, installing new shower pan and shower, and installing new door, new vanity, new mirror, new bathroom fan, and all new fixtures.
      • Price variation depends on the quality of the finishes.
    • 10-foot by 6-foot bathroom remodel: $7,200, including labor and materials.
    • Mid-range renovation: $12,000-$15,000. Price includes labor and materials the customer has purchased.
    • Upscale renovation: $35,000 and up. Price includes labor and materials. Items might include digital displays for fixtures, multiple shower heads and custom showers.
