FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
The only thing standard about the way that I figure out how much a job cost is to add up all the material that I need then figure out how many hours or days or weeks it will take and how much we need to make in that period of time and put the two numbers together. Now there are jobs that a customer may choose to use a much more it's pensive material or product but the labor is actually the same and so that job may end up with an initial higher cost but only because of the materials and products to be used. Also there are times when I meet someone and I can tell that they are in dire need of the work to be performed but they are in an economically poor situation I may lower my usual labor rates just because I know they need this work done and I don't want them to end up with someone who will take advantage of them. We don't make as much in those situations but we feel good and we have made friends.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
Ha Ha. My mother tells me I actually started when I was three or four years old I would take apart all my toys to see how they work and then put them back together most of the time they still worked again even as a youngster I would scavenge construction sites for old wooden bat nails and straighten the nails in order to build forts or go karts I'll kinds of things. Of course that didn't stop me from becoming a restaurant manager from the age of about 20 till 31 but even there I did all of my own repairs.
- Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?
I would say first of all get more than one proposal as it's always recommended to get about three.of I course I will always hope that you choose mine but you get to meet more people that way I have had people hire us who told me I was not the lowest bid but they felt better about hiring me. Check references . And ask for either pictures or to actually go and see projects that we have completed. If someone cannot provide references for pictures of work actually completed that's a red flag.
