From our initial phone conversation, we felt very comfortable being open with Rev. Porter. I enjoyed his laugh! He gave us some ideas that we'd never thought of and seems very willing to carry out what will be our dream ceremony, adding special touches. He suggested marriage counseling and really told us what the value is. We hadn't thought of doing this, but will after his recommendation. We look forward to meeting him and beginning this journey together.

Myself and some of my ( immediate and extended) family have worked with several Juniper center therapists over the past 18 years. We have participated in individual and couples therapy, and some adjunctive limited group sessions. We have received wonderful, very professional, genuine and heartfelt care in all instances. I have been in the health care profession for 30 years in various capacities, including working as a health care advocate, and I know what good care looks like. My family continues to trust the care the Juniper team provides, and they are my first choice when I know someone seeking for a referral for psychotherapy.

Deb has a unique approach to counseling that is supportive, intuitive, challenging and positive. She creates an encouraging, safe environment in which to explore places you probably don't want to go, but need to. She has an uncanny ability to strike the right balance of making you feel safe and yet challenging the areas you need to challenge.

Brian R. King specializes in being a relationship teacher. However, from my personal experience of having the opportunity to be coached by him, his skills, abilities, and talents absolutely exceed way past the surface of just relationships. For more than 22 years now I've sought help, guidance, and advice. I have hired and or worked with many counselors, therapists, psychologists, psychotherapists, coaches, and teachers throughout various periods in my life. (I am currently 34 years young). Even though I am not that mature when it comes to the years I've lived, I have been through a lot of difficult and traumatic events that would have broken most people. So, I know a thing or two when it comes to the arena of teaching/coaching/being counseled etc. Earlier this year I had wanted to hire a life coach and actively started looking at options of who to utilize, and not because things were going bad in my life or because I needed help dealing with a traumatic event like I generally did in the past, but because I finally figured out my purpose in life and wanted to excel the process of being the best version of my self that I could be. Before deciding to choose Brian I spent a good chunk of time researching countless individuals who not only claim to help transform your life & get you to where you want to be, but who wouldn't break my piggy bank in the process. Out of all the options I had looked at and considered, I finally decided to go with Brian. What was cool is that I had already known him for quite some time & even interviewed him for my video series called, "Inspiring People Doing Amazing Things In Life." Why Brian out of everyone else? You may be asking... I chose him for many obvious reasons, but what really stood out to me in comparison to all the rest was his diversity and the "realness" of his own life experiences that he has had, gone through, and not only resiliently bounced back from, but has applied all that he's learned and turned it around into helping/guiding/teaching others as they go through their own personal Journey. Also, Brian has the traditional "credible" educational experience, but I personally think outside of the classroom and in this game of life is where the real qualifications come from. It's been a little over 8 weeks now from when I started the journey of having him teach/coach/counsel/mentor me and began his process of unique teachings and concepts. Now, I am genuinely writing this, not because anyone asked me to but because I really want to share with you all my perspective about what he does, based on my own personal experience. I find Brian to be one of the most uniquely brilliant people I have ever encountered and I feel that everyone should know this. This man has amazed the heck out of me...he goes above and beyond to help in every way he can...has such a compassionate, sincere, caring, and genuine approach to everything he assists me on...and has been able to help me in so many ways that he probably isn't even aware of. Brian has helped me to have more effective communication in all areas of my life. He has introduced new concepts to me so that I know the best way to have proper and healthy self-expression. He has heightened my already advanced sense of self-awareness in ways I never imagined or thought possible. I have learned from him how to better handle and respond to experiences in my life both favorable and unfavorable...how to prioritize my time, priorities, and schedule in a unique way that works best for me...how to shift my perspective and perceptions to see others' points of views in a way where I can be more relatable with them...and he has influenced my life in so many ways that I am in awe every day, literally! Other people in my life that personally know me have noticed the transformational shifts that have been taking place and continue to take place within myself, my attitude, and my actions since I've been working with Brian. I really feel that my decision to hire Brian has been one of the best decisions I've made in a really long time and I am forever changed for the better in many ways. I can't even imagine how much more growth that is going to take place or the person I will have become a year from now as I continue to learn from him, follow his guidance, and take action on applying his suggestions. I am so grateful and thankful for this strategic and effective human being...he is truly one of a kind! I would encourage anyone who wants to better themselves in any area of their life to work with Brian and magically discover, just like I have, what ways yourself and your life transcends. I know that if after reading all of this, which is just my personal feedback and perspective, and now knowing all that I've described above...you are most likely going to be compelled to at least give yourself (if you want) the opportunity to grow and blossom into the beautiful person that you are meant to be...Brian has helped many, many people do just that. After all, life is a process and a journey to experience where there is never a destination...until it's your time to physically leave this realm. Make the most out of it while you can! I am grateful that I do! ☺️😉🙏 ~💖~Tiffany Tee~🌟~Always #Love 💖~ "Wake-Up To To Your Human #Potential & Realize The #Infinite Conscious Being That You Are! Before coming to Anita, we were very desperate and we both really felt as if our marriage was coming to end. Anita was able to help us through marriage counseling, communicating and negotiating our differences. At times, my wife and I obviously expressed our differences during our appointments, however, Anita was able to make sure our conversation were productive and that we really understood where the other was coming from. After our appointments with Anita, I can really say our marriage has started to move in the right direction.

Tom Goforth is an amazing person! He was my husband's therapist for over 30 years and he also was our couples' therapist. The trust in and gratitude we have for Tom led my husband, Jeff, and I to ask him if he would be the officiant at our wedding in August of 2000. He graciously obliged. Years later, in 2008, our son, Ethan, was born. We named him Ethan "Thomas" after Tom Goforth. Tom has done so much for Jeff and for us as a couple. We are indebted. Thank you, Tom! We love you!

Hundreds of couples have come through this counseling practice over the past 20+ years with experiences such as these. It is our passion and personal commitment to help couples restore open communication and a renewal of affection in their relationship lives. Current brain science has proven that the habits and programming from previous experiences can be changed to provide a more positive life experience. As you will see from your review of this website, we use several counseling modalities which are all designed to assist individuals in achieving wholeness and well-being. Please check our website. Image: Idea Group Experiences for Couples While I was doing the Getting The Love You Want workshops for couples over the past twenty years, I was always impressed with the value couples gained from learning couples skills in a group setting. However, I consistently wished for more time to help couples practice and deepen their “heart sense” of being dialogical with each other. By the word “dialogical”, I am referring to the ability of partners to practice, and be at ease with communication that honors individual differences while giving up the need to argue and fight about those differences. Instead, partners in a dialogical relationship view their union as a medium for individual growth and mutual fulfillment through their differences. I have created a unique way for couples to practice and experience dialogue in small (five couples) groups. The family-like bond, trust, and safety that occurs in these groups has consistently provided couples with a personalized awareness of how to stay connected while resolving differences and discords. The experience of these groups is different from that which occurs in typical group psychotherapy. When a couple is “working” in the center of the group, the rest of the group will be "working" with them in an effort to deepen and understand and resolve the issue that the central couple is bringing in for group focus. I have devised a process that is based upon dialogical principles. It is through working together in this format that the group bonds and deepens its understanding of this take-home process of communication.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

    What is a psychologist?

A psychologist is a professionally trained mental health professional who helps patients navigate challenging life situations or mental health issues. To become a psychologist you must earn a doctoral degree; qualifying degrees include a Ph.D., Psy.D. or Ed.D. To actively practice, a psychologist must be licensed in their state and maintain good standing. Psychologists are trained to administer tests that can evaluate a patient’s cognitive strength and weaknesses, intellectual skills, vocational aptitude and preference, personality characteristics, and neuropsychological functioning, explains the American Psychological Association (APA).

A psychologist meets with patients in an office and may work with a variety of methods, depending on patient need, such as cognitive, behavioral or interpersonal.  According to the APA, common reasons a person may visit a psychologist include:

    • Dealing with depression, anger or anxiety over a long period of time.
    • Help with a chronic condition that is interfering with their lives or physical health.
    • Help with grieving and other abrupt transitions.
    • Overcoming addictions.
    • Managing chronic illness.
    • Breaking old and harmful patterns of thinking or behavior.

What are the types of psychologists?

Psychologists are healthcare professionals who use scientific methods to understand the relationships between the brain, environment and behavior. Psychologists may focus on research — studying how the brain and various environments drive behaviors to better understand the issues that trouble patients and society as a whole — or they may focus on practice — interacting with people using therapeutic methods. The American Psychological Association shares some of the more prevalent types of psychologists:

    • Clinical psychologists assess and treat mental, emotional and behavioral disorders.
    • Cognitive and perceptual psychologists study human perception, thinking and memory.
    • Community psychologists work to strengthen the abilities of communities, settings, organizations and broader social systems to meet people’s needs — such as improving support for victims of natural disasters, or working to improve health policies.
    • Counseling psychologists help people understand and take action on everyday issues, career and work problems, and serious adversity.
    • Developmental psychologists study the psychological development of the human being throughout life.
    • Educational psychologists concentrate on how effective teaching and learning take place.
    • Engineering psychologists conduct research on how people work best with machines.
    • Environmental psychologists study the dynamics of how people interact with their environments.
    • Evolutionary psychologists study how evolutionary principles such as mutation, adaptation and selective fitness influence human thought, feeling and behavior.
    • Experimental psychologists study cognitive processes, comparative psychology (cross-species comparisons), and learning and conditioning.
    • Forensic psychologists apply psychological principles to legal issues.
    • Health psychologists specialize in how biological, psychological and social factors affect health and illness.
    • Industrial/organizational psychologists apply psychological principles and research methods to the workplace to improve productivity, health and the quality of work life.
    • Neuropsychologists and behavioral neuropsychologists explore the relationships between brain systems and behavior.
    • Quantitative and measurement psychologists focus on methods and techniques for designing experiments and analyzing psychological data.
    • Rehabilitation psychologists work with stroke and accident victims, people with mental disabilities, and those with developmental disabilities caused by such conditions as cerebral palsy, epilepsy and autism.
    • School psychologists assess and counsel students, consult with parents and school staff, and conduct behavioral interventions when appropriate.
    • Social psychologists study how a person’s mental life and behavior are shaped by interactions with other people.
    • Sport psychologists help athletes refine their focus on competition goals, become more motivated, and learn to deal with anxiety and fear of failure around competition.

    How much do therapists cost?

If you are experiencing a challenging time, have mental health difficulties, or just want professional guidance as you move through life, a therapist can provide relief, tools and structure. The national average cost for a therapist is $80-$100 per hour, although prices may be higher or lower depending on geographic location and the experience and training of the therapist.

Psychiatrists, psychologists and licensed therapists are all health professionals who offer various modalities of therapy. Ask questions about the type of therapy they specialize in (such as cognitive or behavioral, etc.) and their area of expertise (such as grief, anxiety, body image disorders, etc.) to help you find the right fit for your needs. Therapy sessions are typically 50-60 minutes long.  The patient usually meets with the therapist in their office; sessions may also be held remotely (via Skype, etc.) or in a clinical setting. Psychologists, psychiatrists and other therapists who have earned advanced degrees will typically charge higher rates than other licensed therapists. Depending on your diagnosis, your health insurance may cover your therapy costs.

Can a clinical psychologist write prescriptions?

To be able to write a prescription, a clinical psychologist must practice in a state that permits them to do so, and must either have a master’s degree in psychopharmacology or have completed the required advanced training program. According to the American Psychological Association (APA), five states currently permit psychologists to write prescriptions: Idaho, New Mexico, Illinois, Iowa and Louisiana. Many psychologists who are not able to write prescriptions work in partnership with psychiatrists, pediatricians or primary care doctors to help their patients who need medication.
