Sam was fantastic! He did a great job and was very clean. I have a furnace that's over 30 years old and was waiting for bad news but he was thorough and he took the time to explain what he was doing as he worked. No new furnace needed yet; but, Sam gave me info to research for when I need a new furnace and gave me safety suggestions. Sam is completely trust worthy and I will absolutely use his services again. Thanks so much Sam!!

We just purchased a new home and we really needed to clean our ducts.. Stan came to our house right on time, from the very beginning we liked him.. he was very professional and nice. When he finished the job we also asked him to leave us an estimate on new furnace and price that he gave us was very good, so we ended up also buying a new furnace. Furnace was installed next day! Artur(installer) was also very professional he did a great job! He cleaned everything after installation and took all the garbage with him.. thank you Green Air

I was very happy with my Thumbtack referral experience in finding Michael Gonzales. He was very prompt in responding to my quote request, answered ALL my online questions and came within 2 days. He was polite, reasonably priced, no hidden charges, and no hard sell to replace furnace. Installed part as quoted. I would recommend him. As a widow of a General Contractor who no longer has any good sub contractor connections for services anymore, I would say Casa Heating & Cooling is a good fit for someone looking for good service and honest fair pricing! Thanks again Michael for restoring my air-con during this sweltering heatwave!

From the time I contacted Ezio to the time the project was finished, I was nothing but pleased. The response was always prompt, the service was beyond compare, and the price was competitive. We had our furnace cleaned and a Nest thermostat installed. Ezio was clear and concise when he explained to me the working life of furnace parts, and he was very knowledgeable about the Nest. We will be using them in the spring to service our A/C and we already referred him to our son and his family.

I have had a good relationship with my prior furnace and a/c technician. But, after my guy retired a few years back, I started to look for a new technician. I have asked around and checked reviews. Finally, I've decided to give this company a try. I am glad that I did. First, my a/c unit stopped producing cold air. Vlad came out the same day I called him. Vlad tested the unit and explained what the problem was and gave me a few solutions. Since it was in the fall season, I've decided to wait and, maybe, get a second opinion. I've called my retired technician and told him what Vlad said. Everything seemed correct and the price was excellent. So, I've decided not to wait unit the next year and called Vlad back. Quick, professional, quality work! Since my first experience with Vlad, he became my furnace and a/c technician. Also, when I was remodeling my kitchen, I had to get rid of the dividing wall which had air supply to the second floor. Vlad had to reconfigure the air ducks and supply to the second floor. Again, pleasant experience from start to finish. Vlad also does regular annual maintenance of my furnace and a/c unit.

The repair Technician, Miguel Vargas, responded to my call for water heater repair on a Sunday and was able to get the water heater functioning in the interim period while the part that needed to be replaced was on order. They turned this around in 24 hours and my water heater was fully repaired. Miguel was friendly and explained the issue fully to me. The pricing was fair and the work was done expeditiously. I would highly recommend him and All-4Climates, for Heating, Cooling and Water Heater issues.

First class service. Rob (the technician) really went above and beyond to find the root cause of our issue. We ended up replacing the A/C condenser, the A/C coil, the furnace, and a new Ecobee thermostat. They were able to install everything the next day which was important for me as our A/C coil was plugged. The workmanship is top notch and prices are very competitive. Highly recommended!

The company did an outstanding job on the installation of my new air conditioning unit. I was so happy that the company came out right away to give an estimate and then installed the new air within a few days after the estimate. The pricing of the new air was so reasonable and the cleaning of my furnace was included. The company came out the day they said they would come and despite having an earlier job that they needed to finish they came and stayed until 10pm to complete my air installation. They could have come back the next day but they stars and completed the job!! I was so impressed. The air is keeping us cool!!!! I would highly recommend this company to family and friends.

We were having foundation cracks repaired and interior drain tile installed. This required the furnace to be removed, then reinstalled once the work was complete. Tim was very flexible with scheduling to help minimize downtime. While reinstalling the furnace Tim also fixed a few minor issues with the system and provided recommendations to help everything run smoothly and efficiently.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

Who fixes furnaces?

If your furnace needs to be repaired, you’ll want to find a qualified heating, ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC) repair technician. Each state has its own licensing requirements; some require all HVAC technicians to have an HVAC license, while others only require someone operating an HVAC service and installation company with employees to hold a contractor’s license. For example, in Alabama, the Alabama Board of Heating Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration Contractors regulates licensing, while in Kansas there is no state regulatory body and HVAC licensing can vary by region. For simple furnace repairs like changing out a filter, a trusted handyman can probably handle the job, but a trained professional should be hired for tasks like replacing a gas valve, installing a new inducer fan motor or other critical furnace repair jobs that involve dealing with gas leaks or other dangerous conditions. For more, check out our tips for smart hiring on Thumbtack.

How much will it cost me to replace my furnace?

The national average for furnace replacement is between $1,800 and $2,500. The cost can range dramatically higher depending on the model of furnace you select, any repair work you require, your location and the cost of installation. Furnace installation costs can be more than the furnace itself due to the cost of doing business and the expertise needed to install the HVAC equipment. Installing a new furnace generally requires technical know-how and the proper tools and licensing. It’s best to hire a pro and budget for furnace installation rather than risk potentially unsafe DIY installation. This will ensure your home’s safety. Check to see if your HVAC contractor has the proper licensing to do the job. If you need duct repair or replacement, expect to pay more for your furnace installation costs. The price for duct repair could be an hourly rate ranging on average anywhere from $85 to $150 per hour, with additional costs for parts.

How much does it cost to have your furnace serviced?

When your furnace isn’t regularly serviced it can operate less efficiently. This increases your energy bills and also prevents your furnace from keeping your home as warm as you like. Keep your furnace properly maintained with regular service. The national average furnace service cost is between $60 and $80. Companies may offer tuneup specials that cover all the necessary testing, tightening, measuring and cleaning to keep your equipment running at top efficiency. If you have a newer system, furnace service costs may be covered by your warranty. Outside of warranty, a basic tuneup might start at $58 and a more advanced maintenance cleaning could be over $120. Here are some signs your furnace may need service:

  • The furnace has stopped functioning entirely.
  • The temperature cannot be regulated.
  • Rooms in the home are either too hot or too cold.
  • The heated air coming from the furnace smells like gas.
  • The thermostat isn’t working.
  • Strange noises are coming from the furnace.

How much will it cost me to replace my air conditioner?

If your AC system is in need of replacement, the national average air conditioner installation costs range from $2,930 to $3,670. Costs can vary greatly depending on whether you are replacing a wall or window unit or a central air system. A central air system is connected to ductwork that runs throughout your house and pumps cooled air into your various rooms via vents and registers. A central air conditioning system is far more costly than wall or window units. Selecting a central AC system that has a high seasonal energy-efficiency ratio (SEER) will likely lower both your carbon footprint and your utility bill. The type of AC system you select, where you live in the country, and the regional costs of HVAC work, duct removal and replacement, and ductwork repairs that are needed are some of the main factors that affect the cost of new air conditioner installation. Here are some examples of average costs for installing forced-air systems.

  • Install Lennox 16 SEER single-stage AC unit: $5,743
    • Removing and disposing of the old furnace, moving and reconnecting the water heater, and installing a 3.5-ton gas furnace. The job took 18 hours of labor.
  • Installation of a new 14 SEER single-range cooling system: $4,000-$6,000
  • Installation of a new 16 SEER two-range cooling system: $6,000-$8,000
  • Installation of a new 20 SEER variable capacity cooling system: $8,000-$12,000

How much does it cost to have your furnace cleaned?

To keep your furnace in good working order it’s important to have it regularly cleaned. The national average furnace cleaning cost ranges from $60 to $80, though prices can vary greatly based on where you live in the country and what your furnace maintenance includes. An HVAC company may have different rates for different levels of furnace maintenance. For example, one company may offer general furnace maintenance for $79 and advanced maintenance for $138. Another company may offer a 38-point maintenance check for $89 and a 64-point maintenance check for $178. According to Energy.gov, a standard furnace cleaning and maintenance visit can include:

  • Checking the vent connection pipe and chimney
  • Checking the physical integrity of the heat exchanger
  • Adjusting the controls to provide optimum air temperatures
  • Checking the combustion chamber for cracks
  • Testing for carbon monoxide (CO)
  • Adjusting the blower control and supply-air temperature
  • Cleaning and oiling the blower
  • Removing soot and corrosion from the furnace
  • Checking the fuel input and flame characteristics
  • Sealing the connections between the furnace and the main ducts
