Jon provided the music for the cocktail hour of our wedding on Sunday, September 18, 2016. We must start out by saying that, because the entire wedding was one big whirlwind, we did not have the pleasure of being able to hear a majority of Jon’s performance. However, we did hear through word of mouth that the guests really enjoyed the music that Jon provided. We communicated exclusively through e-mail. He was very kind and patient with us as we tried to figure out what types of music we wanted to play. Jon was able to send us a list of songs that he was well-versed in and that accommodated the genres we ultimately decided on (latin, jazz, bossa nova, R&B). This made our lives easier as it helped us to focus and eventually narrow our choices down to a small selection of songs. We finally got a chance to meet face to face at the wedding venue. He was very sweet and very formal (and he speaks Spanish too!). We did have a bit of confusion regarding whether or not Jon would use his own personal keyboard or the piano provided by the wedding venue but thankfully everything worked out in the end. Jon was VERY reasonably priced; however, he does not provide a contract (but because Jon is such a professional, this was not an issue at all). We would absolutely recommend Jon. And like we had mentioned to him at the venue, hopefully we have another opportunity to hire him so that we can listen to and enjoy his musical talents in its entirety. Thanks again Jon!

Bob is great! Patient and fun. We have worked with him for over a year and he even organized four 6-year-olds for a band for the school talent show in a very short time.

We booked this band for our wedding reception and they were amazing. All of our guests had a blast and gave a lot of compliments specifically about the band. They play a good variety of songs and are super fun. We would recommend them to anyone looking to book a wedding band!

Artist collective is a very professional business that has the musician in their best interest. I personally have worked with them and it was so nice to have them take care of the "business" end, so I could concentrate on the creative end with my band. AC set us up with a photo/video shoot and it was a success! Highly recommended by us!!

I have worked with "DJ Rush Events" on three different occasions; a Birthday Party for my son, a Bat Mitz'Vah for my daughter and a Christmas Party for my company. It has been a total pleasure working with Justin "DJ Rush"!!! Very energetic, highly professional and accommodating. Very knowledgeable in all kinds of music that he provides as well as using a great sounding equipment as well as lighting. To anyone who's planning a party, be it a wedding, anniversary, birthday or anything else for that matter, I would highy recommend Justin's "DJ Rush Events" company to bring joy and a great energy to any event. As the matter of fact, Justin will be doing our Halloween Party soon, so I will share my experience with you as well. Thank you Justin!

I came in with little to no experience and left feeling confident to play piano and sing for my wife at our wedding. She had no idea I had been training to do this so it really blew her away. I was so impressed with Clark that I replaced my own brother with him as the best man at my wedding.

Gail was most accommodating to us as she arranged just the right type of music we were looking for during each part of our wedding day. She and her group were able to arrange one specific song for our first dance and even played it for us before the wedding day at one of their venues. She kept in constant communication with us prior to the wedding and was present early on that day to be prepared. The group was very friendly and we felt the personal touch to the day. We would highly recommend them to others.

Loved the Jeff Alterio Band! Jeff is well versed in our favorite rock guitar classics, they expertly executed Stevie Ray, Stones, Eagles, Hendrix, Zeppelin, Skynard, Muddy Waters & Hooker in that jamming guitar style you remember from the greats. They do not disappoint! These guys are fun & very talented musicians. Hope to have them play again soon. I'm sure they'll just get better over time, Now I'd like hear a little more of his original work Trash Opera.

Two of my sons took piano lessons from Miss Linda when they were 5-6 and 7-9 years old. Both boys are very different (personality, work ethic, temperament, talent) from one another, but Linda was able to encourage the push them to achieve a level of musical appreciation and performance that has helped both excel in the orchestra and band instruments they have taken up now they are older. A very talented musician herself, Linda also 'gets' kids and has a gentle way of instruction that encourages children to want to practice and improve each week. Highly recommend Linda!

Michelle was wonderful from the moment we met her. She gracefully interacted with all of our guests (unlike another vendor of ours) and played absolutely beautifully. Her music really set our wedding apart and I could not recommend having Michelle play at your wedding or event more. 5 stars!!

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

      What is a mariachi band?

Mariachi bands are rooted in Mexican culture. Traditional mariachi bands consisted of two or more members playing stringed instruments, wearing regional costumes adapted from the charro (Mexican horseman or cowboy). Modern mariachi bands, which are likely what you’re looking for when searching for a mariachi band for hire, feature at least four members who play stringed instruments (violin, vihuela, bass guitar called guitarron) and one or more trumpets. The costumes have remained the same, but now trumpets are synonymous with mariachi music. Mariachi bands for hire often play a wide range of music, including styles originating from Mexico and adopted from elsewhere. These include jarabes, waltzes, serenades, corridos (Mexican ballads), ranchera, cumbia, and more. Mariachi bands for hire bring a festive and soulful element to a party, birthday, wedding, corporate affair, fundraiser or community event. UNESCO has inscribed mariachi music on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

How much does a mariachi band cost?

A mariachi band will bring your party or event alive with their fabulous costumes, beautiful playing and strong vocals. The cost of a mariachi band for hire will depend on how many players are in the group. Each musician in a performance group needs to be paid, so pricing is usually based on the number of mariachis (musicians), the location of the event (and travel time required), and the length of the performance. Day of the week also affects cost, as does day — Christmas, New Year’s Eve and other major holidays will cost more than regular days. The national average cost for live bands of all types ranges between $740 and $1,200. Depending on where you live and regional rates for performers, you might expect to pay between $65 and $120 per hour, per player. Mariachi groups may have 12-15 players available for performance at one time, depending on your budget. Here are some examples of how the number of players affects average cost:

      • Four mariachis: $300 per hour for weeknights, $400 per hour for weekends.
      • Five mariachis: $350 per hour for weeknights, $400-$450 per hour for weekends. Weekends may have a minimum number of hours.
      • Six mariachis: $400 per hour for weeknights, $450-$500 per hour for weekends.

How many mariachis can a band have?

A mariachi band for hire can have as many players as you like. Modern mariachi bands typically have a minimum of four players with the trumpet playing a vital musical role along with stringed instruments such as the violin, guitarrón (a Mexican bass guitar with a deep body), vihuela (a Spanish stringed guitar) and guitar. Strong vocals are also an important component of mariachi bands for hire, since one or more of the players will be singing during the performance. For a truly spectacular show, you can hire a mariachi band with 15 or more players. The medley of stringed instruments, multiple trumpets, soaring vocals, and even an accordion or harp is powerful and beautiful. Mariachis typically wear the traditional costume of charros — Mexican horsemen. The look is a very regal, monotone suit, often in black or white, with silver adornments and embroidery. Mariachi bands often wear sombreros as well. Traditional mariachi bands were only made up of two or more players, according to a UNESCO report celebrating the cultural heritage of the musical style. The style of music originated in the state of Jalisco. Now the style of music is symbolic of Mexico but is celebrated all over the world, and adds a fabulous vibrancy to any group’s events, parties and weddings.
