K Cabinet
We hired K Cabinet in October of 2017 to paint our existing cabinets, build a custom designed dry-bar to match our existing cabinets as well as a rolling island. The project was delivered in March of 2018. In addition to cabinets, we also needed new counter tops and electric work which K Cabinet agreed to facilitate. I created storyboards for each element of custom work and K Cabinet provided drafts and polished sketches of the final products. We agreed to the prep work we were each responsible for and confirmed a kick off date for the project. The project kicked off as expected and we made great progress for a month or so but a lot of re-work was required for forgotten details. This included delivering countertops with the wrong edge, crooked cabinet fronts, adding mis-matched crown moulding to the ceiling, creating holes in cabinets where they weren't needed, removing a fire alarm and leaving a hole in the ceiling, and incorrectly measured counter tops. We were given 1 week notice when the team was going to be unavailable for a month while they left the country and we were left without a working kitchen. I had to do a lot of the project management after I didn't get updates and picked up hardware to install it myself to make progress. The team left food containers and garbage in my home when they left for the day. The 6 - 8 week timeline extended to a grueling 6 months. I have a seam in my counter, the finish on my hardwood floors was ruined by their "protective" paint cloth, there are gaps in the cabinets where they don't align, and paint has already worn off on our most frequently used cabinets and has cracked on others. Unfortunately, I think K Cabinet accepted my project without the ability to complete it. I would hire them again to create a match to existing cabinets and use that as a template for someone else to do everything else from installation to paint. I would hire them to install hardware on existing cabinets. In my experience the longevity of the paint work and continuous errors for additional deliverables is beyond their scope even though they may agree to complete it.
