Ron did an excellent job installing our storm door. The door was missing the handle so Ron was nice enough to let us go back to the store to pick it up and he came back 30 minutes later to install the door handle for no extra charge. He was the best and affordable! I will definitely hire him again.

Quality work. Gracie & Marek are easy to work with. We had a complete bathroom remodel done, demo down to the studs. Could not be happier with how it turned out. Also had new floor, window & door installed in a half bath. Everything done in 10 days .

Mike and his team fixed the missing singles for my roof. fix the flashing, siding, and installed a 20 feet gutter. The job finished very good, and with reasonably price. I will use Mike again in future if I want to change roof.

Ive used McHenry Windows, Siding & remodeling for about 10 years. Ive had Martin install a sliding door, windows, install kitchen cabinets, counters-full kitchen remodel including the plumbing all in my home. I manage another property and he installed skylights, changed out locks, and put in a full back yard fence. I have had nothing but positive experiences with his company and employees. Attention to detail, timely completion, cost as estimated, honest and safe. As a singe mom these are all qualities i demand and I couldn't be happier.

James has done so much for us this past month! We bought a new home that needed some improvements....after my husband's failed attempt at staining our floors, his guys swooped in and corrected it. Now they look great! After our gutters overflowed with crap due to a horrible past owner, his guys came and cleaned them out! James himself sealed four large cracks in our basement that were causing water damage, and the other day we had our windows measured so he can replace those too! James is very friendly, accommodating, hard-working, and easy to get a long with. I would and have recommended him to family and friends and we will be doing more work with him in the future.

I hired HGR Construction Services, Joel Sevilla by the recommendation of my heating and air conditioning contractor. I hired him for an insurance claim for hail damage to my aluminum siding, he worked with the insurance adjuster for almost 2 months to get me the most that he could from the insurance company. They ended up paying for partial of the siding that was damaged but more than what they first offered because Joel brought to their attention many things they had missed. Instead of replacing the siding with aluminum again I upgraded to vinyl and paid the difference of the upgrade. I also had him install all 15 new windows that were well over due to be replaced. Joel is very easy to work with the crews that came to do the work were very professional and thorough. Any problems that arose were taken care of immediately and professionally. I plan on having HGR Construction Services, Joel Sevilla re-roof my house this coming spring. I would recommend Joel 100%.

I had missing shingles due to a storm. Chad arrived on time, scoped out there site gave me an estimate on the amount of time it would take and got to work! Very professional. While on my roof he explained why I was having this issue (lack of nails from pervious installation). Once he was fine here cleaned up the site. Very pleased with his work and would highly recommend him to anyone needing roof work done. A++ in my book, thanks Chad!

Jerry is very nice guy, and he came to me twice to discuss the window project. His price is very reasonable, and he ordered high quality windows. The window installation process was very smooth, and passed the village inspection without any problems. I would use Jerry or Remodel Rangers again.

We are very impressed and satisfied with the craftsmanship and quality of work from the gutter and siding crew. The owners Mike and Kathy were exceptional and professional and very easy to work with. Our project was a unique one as that the previous owner had sided the house with cement board and left all the windows and trim wood. When Mike came out the give us a quote and saw the arched front entry way he was the only contractor that said they could do it. And they did a fabulous job with it! We are so pleased with the completed house will be calling them back soon to come out and help us with our garage project. I highly recommend Classic Gutter Co. you will not be disappointed!

We have attempted to work with a lot of companies and have always been disappointed. Style Exteriors absolutely outperformed in every way. Our roof was damaged during a hail storm and we had almost no luck with our insurance company but that’s when Style Exteriors came to our rescue. Pat facilitated everything from start to finish and kept us informed along the way. I can’t say enough about the service we received.

Very satisfied so far. Harold knows his stuff about Windows and has been great to work with to date. I signed with Creative Exteriors today, and Harold has already arranged the measurement order. Harold was able to quickly price up the project on the spot. 26 Windows and a patio sliding door. The Windows (Advanced Window Corporation) appear to be superior to most other vinyl replacement window products. Harold clearly presented keys differences, explaining why Advanced products are better. Pricing seemed competitive (I got two other quotes) but actually, it's better- because the product is better. Plus, no money down- I pay only when the job is done. He is a no-nonsense, straight shooter. His 30 + years in the business shows. It's no surprise his company is A+ rated. I appreciate being able to deal directly with him as the owner. I'll add to the review when the Windows are installed, but again, so far, very satisfied.

Robert was a pleasure to work with. He was very organized, responsive, and professional. His workers were on time, pleasant, and very patient with both our kids and dog throughout our reno. We added two bathrooms, updated another bath, refinished our flooring, installed new windows throughout, removed an existing wall to open up the floor plan, updated the majority of light fixtures, installed a new front door, painted throughout the home, wallpapered, new inner doors and hardware throughout, removed A LOT of wood paneling, and did tile work in the kitchen. Throughout all of this - Robert and his crew were great. Only minor issues came up - one being a stain color for a door that I didn't like and the other was that the flooring wasn't drying as quickly as to be expected. We would definitely use iRenovate again.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you replace a window?

You may want to replace a window if the glass has been damaged, you’re remodeling a room, or you want to upgrade your energy efficiency as well as your style by getting rid of those drafty single panes that are losing you money. When replacing a window, you can remove and replace the entire window down to the house frame. This method is best if the existing frame is damaged or deteriorating, but requires construction skills and know-how and will take more time and money. An easier and less expensive option is to install an insert replacement window into the existing frame. Insert replacements are only an option if your window frame is in good condition without rot or damage.

When replacing an entire window, first you’ll carefully remove the existing window with a pry bar and other tools. Next, you’ll make any repairs and adjustments needed to the existing frame or header and studs to ensure that the space is perfectly plumb and square, so the new window will sit perfectly within the space. Next, install the new window from the exterior, securing it into place. You’ll need to precisely wrap and insulate the window to ensure it doesn’t leak. Then, install the interior casing and exterior trim (as needed). If you prefer to hire a professional to install a window, consider replacing more than one window at a time, as the pro can work more efficiently.

How much is a custom window?

Choosing custom windows will increase your window installation cost but will provide you with exactly what you want. The average national cost for window installation is $2,650. Your custom window costs will vary based on several factors. The first factor is the type of frame you want. The four most common types of frames are vinyl, fiberglass, aluminum and wood. Wood is typically the most expensive option, followed by aluminum. The type of glass you select will also affect cost. There are single-, double- and triple-pane windows. Most double- and triple-pane windows have gas sealed between the panes that act as insulation. Windows typically cost more the more energy-efficient they are, though this efficiency can save you money on utility bills in the long run. The type of glass used can also affect cost. There are different grades of glass — high-performance glass, low-e coated glass, and more — which all provide you with better insulation. In addition, the number of unified inches (window height x window width) you need will affect cost. The cost of custom windows will also be affected by installation cost and whether any repair or construction work is required to properly fit the new window.

How much would it cost to put in new windows?

The cost to replace a window can vary depending on factors such as window size, type of glass, brand of window, necessary trim repair, and any construction work required for installation. Labor rates and cost to do business in your region will also affect the cost. The national average window installation cost is $2,650 per project. Here are some examples of average trim repair and window replacement costs:

  • Trim repair:
    • Line and case a window frame with an MDF product: $400.
    • Line and case a window frame with raw hemlock wood: $500.
  • Approximate cost to install five windows at one time: $3,000.
  • Approximate cost to install one double-hung, energy-efficient 3-foot by 4-foot window: $500-$550.
    • For the same window size (3-foot by 4-foot) from a different manufacturer made with a specialty fiberglass exterior and all-wood interior, the cost could go up to $1,500.
    • Pricing can go as high as $5,000 for a bay or bow window with specialty glass and framing.
      • These examples include removal and disposal of old materials and window.
