I am interested in teaching all aspects of music, and not just the basic technique of playing the violin. Consequently, the student has a broader knowledge of music in general. I teach using Zoom, so that the student is safe in the comfort of their home. Teaching is helping people to understand something. I enjoy the results of helping people, as it is very rewarding for me as well as for the student.

My son has taken violin lessons with Clete for the last 6 or 7 years and we couldn't be happier to work with such an outstanding teacher. Clete has a vast knowledge of violin technique, great teaching style and a demeanor that lets his students know he means business but is still enjoyable to work with. My son has learned so much from him and continues to grow into a fine musician under Clete's tutelage. I highly rebmend him to anyone looking for a violin teacher.

My 11 year old Daughter loves working with Mr. Davis. He has taken her playing to a new level in a very short amount of time. He is easily accessible at Fairview Music in Downers Grove. He is also conscientious and understanding. I would suggest Mr. Davis to anyone of all ages. Thank you Mr. Davis.

I am an adult student that has studied with Clete off and on for the past 20 years. I began as an adult with no prior musical experience. Clete's passion and dedication to teaching not just the violin but music theory, music appreciation, and his vast knowledge of composers and artists has influenced my playing beyond just memorizing notes and finger placements, but truly inspiring beautiful music. Clete personally develops each student and focuses on their unique needs. During times when I have not lived near Clete, I have gone to other teachers and always felt I was just learning an instrument and have not felt the passion, pride, confidence and genuineness I experience with Clete. I now drive over an hour each way to continue lessons with Clete.

I would definitely recommend Clete as an instructor for the cello. I began taking cello lessons with Clete in my 60's and it has been a very good experience for the past year and a half. As I did not even know how to read music, it's been an exciting time to learn so much about music theory, history, practicalities of the instrument etc. I think it takes a special person to teach the adult student as often our work schedules do not necessarily mesh with practice or lesson times. It's never too late to learn to play an instrument and I would highly recommend Clete as an instructor for all ages.

  • What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

I have a fixed rate by the month, for one lesson each week.

  • What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

This varies greatly depending on whether the student is a beginner or someone continuing their musical education. With a beginner, I start them learning to read music right from the first lesson, and show them the correct way to hold and play the violin. By the second lesson, they are playing a simple piece, and it's "up" from there!

  • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I have a Bachelor's Degree from the University of Arizona, Tucson in Violin Performance, I studied for ten years at the American Conservatory in Chicago, beginning at age seven, then left to go to college in Arizona. I have done post-graduate study at both Roosevelt University in Chicago, and at Northern Illinois University in DeKalb Illinois. I subscribe to several violin/music publications to stay informed, and I am constantly practicing and learning new pieces to play!
