FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
All the work is custom. The least we charge is normally $800 to $1500 in labor depending on how complex the design is and how many stones need to be set. If more than one item is ordered at the same time (ex. engagement ring with a matching wedding band) we give a discount on the labor charge). Since we deal directly with diamond and stone importers, our mark-up is significantly less than retail jewelry stores. If you have seen a GIA certified diamond engagement ring at your local mall for $10,000, then our price is usually $2K to $3K less. If your budget is $25000 at a more fabulous jewelry store then our pricing for the same GIA certified quality is generally at least $5K less and sometimes more than that.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
At the initial consultation- which is at no charge- we listen to what the customer would like to have done. Janusz will draw a design - or several designs- until the picture represents what the customer would like. We discuss materials and options - silver, 14K gold, 18K gold or platinum and their various price differences and approximately how much this will cost. We do not know the final metal cost until a wax model is carved which determines the weight and cost of the metal used. We discuss the customer's budget and suggest ways in which to stay within that budget. If diamonds or other precious stones are involved, we discuss the quality and pricing levels for these. We discuss all the variables which go into pricing a diamond - the 4 C's of color, cut, clarity and carat weight. After we reach an agreement, we request a deposit before the wax model is cut. This is a handmade model - we rarely use a cad machine- so we need to be paid for our time just like when you order anything custom, a deposit must be placed. The initial deposit is not refundable. After the wax model is cut and any stones that will be used are placed in the wax model, the customer will be able to try on the wax and either approve the wax or request any changes they would like made to the wax. We then move on to the next stage which is to cast the piece in metal and then finish it and set any stones.
