We are very pleased with the service received from JC Lawncare. He took down our tree without disturbing the adjacent fence. They also stacked the logs and branches so we could use them for a bonfire. Very professional and gladly recommend him for tree removal!

Mauricio and team were at my home to take down a pine tree in my back yard. I contacted him we set a date and things moved quickly. He and his team took the tree down and removed the stump quickly, cautiously and they cleaned up after themselves. I barely knew they had been there! No mess left and the tree was gone. I HIGHLY recommend this young entrepreneur for your landscaping needs. He has assisted another friend of mine with spring clean up and she was very satisfied with the cost and the work they completed. Check out this company you won't regret it!

Alvarado tree service is reliable and gave a very fair price for a job well done. Noticed that they left our lawn in good condition- they cleaned up the work area well after themselves by filling the hole after cutting down our 15 foot pine tree and removal of the stump from the ground. If we need future tree removal service done we will most likely ask for his business again. Very satisfied with their work.

I needed an emergency tree removal. I am new to Thumbtack so I was hesitant about the process. Louis responded promptly and stopped by the same day. He was very prompt, knowledgeable and all around nice guy. Louis put my concerns to rest and I hired him on the spot. Louis came out the next morning and did a wonderful job. Louis and Nature Life Landscaping is my go to landscaper. Thanks Louis!!!!!!

We got quotes from a few companies and they were the best price, others quoted and said they would match someone else's, not my style. One thing that really impressed me was they took time to evalutle how power lines would affect the project and instead of taking the shortcut and causing potential issues they were up front, the power needed to be shut off. The tree never got close to the line but I was happy knowing things were done right, would use them again if I needed a tree removed

These guys are GREAT!!! Received an E-mail from them on Tues. Feb.14th with a quote and was told they me they could come out as early as Sat. Feb. 18th to cut down the tree. That was great because our trampoline was to the side of that tree and several limbs had fallen by it. I was concerned about my grandkids playing on the trampoline because some pieces had broken and fallen on it. They are very professional, cleaned up when they were finished and tied off the high limbs so when the limbs were cut down, they wouldn't destroy your property. We needed a person to climb and cut the tree down as we have field tile running in the back yard and could not have heavy equipment on the lawn for fear of it collapsing. I just can't say enough great things about them. I highly recommend them.

I recently had Axellent Tree Removal come out to my property and cut down about a half dozen trees. The work was done quickly and efficiently, and they did an amazing job cleaning up after they were done. Stumps were taken down to the ground level, so it is like they were never there. There was also an area of brush they cleared out for me, and all was cleaned up and removed. Would highly recommend Axellent!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to remove a tree stump?

Once you have a tree cut down, you’ll probably want to remove the tree stump as well. You may want the stump removed for aesthetics, the tree stump could be diseased, you might want to prevent regrowth, or you may find the roots are causing problems and need to be removed. Tree removal costs don’t always include the cost to grind out or dig out a tree stump after the tree has been felled and the trunk removed. The national average cost for stump removal ranges from $150 to $200. There are two main methods for dealing with tree stumps. In grinding, pros use a chipping machine to grind away the above-level tree stump until it sits just below the soil surface. Tree stump removal entails lifting the entire root ball of a tree out of the soil. Removing the stump will leave a hole in the ground and also take more time, labor and money than stump grinding. Here are some examples of average tree stump removal costs:

  • Stump grinding: $2-$4 per inch.
  • Tree stump removal: average of $60-$350.

The final price will depend on the stump’s size, condition, location and condition of the soil around it.

How much does it cost to trim a tree?

The national price range for tree trimming is $270-$450. Tree trimming is often done by a professional arborist who is trained to safely trim and prune trees for both the health of the tree and the safety of the residents and their property. Trying to do your own tree trimming is not advisable unless you have the proper know-how. Tree trimming companies may charge an hourly rate for their services. The hourly rate may be higher or lower for different trees to reflect the relative safety measures, skill, equipment or people power needed to handle the job. For this reason, most tree services provide free estimates.

One example of an hourly rate for professional tree trimming services is $150 per hour. Costs may be under $100 or could be higher than $300 per hour, depending on variables such as proximity to buildings, health of the tree, height and diameter of the tree, and type of tree trimming desired. Geography and regional cost of living and regional costs to do business will also play a role in your tree removal costs.

How much does it cost to remove a fallen tree?

If you need to have a tree cut down, have you planned what will happen next? Arborists often charge an additional fee to quarter and remove the fallen tree from your property, so anticipate this as part of your tree removal costs. You can elect to have the wood cut for use in your fireplace, or you may prefer to have it hauled away completely.

Tree removal costs may vary based on the height and the width of the felled tree. Size affects the labor required for removal, which will be reflected in the cost. For example, a tree service company may charge an additional $100-$120 to haul away the pieces of a felled tree. The service may cost as little as $75 in some regions and more than $150 in others. Regional labor rates, the cost of living and the cost to do business in your area will be reflected in your tree removal cost.

How much does it cost to cut a tree down?

When you’re ready to have a tree on your property come down, it’s time to call an arborist. The national average price range for tree-trimming costs is $270-$450. Tree removal costs can vary based on the height, diameter, location and health of the tree, and on whether you want to remove the stump. Height plays a major role in tree removal costs. Small trees, no more than 30 feet tall, are usually thinner in diameter and easier and safer for an arborist to manage. Removal of a small tree can cost anywhere from under $150 to over $450. Removal of medium-height trees, from 30 feet to 60 feet tall, could cost anywhere between $150 and $850 or more. Tall trees, typically 60 feet to 80 feet tall, may start at $500 or cost more than $1,000 to cut down. As the height and diameter increase, so does the cost.

Location is critical, too. Removing a tree in an open space is quicker and presents fewer obstacles than removing a tree that is growing flush to your house. Arborists can assess your tree and provide you with quotes based on the variables involved. For example, removing a medium-size hackberry tree that was growing too close to a home — the roots were damaging the home’s foundation — cost $1,500. This price included rope-down, house protection, tree quartering and stacking, and stump removal.

How much does it cost to cut down a massive tree?

If you have to remove a big, beautiful tree from your property, you’ll definitely need an arborist. Cutting down a massive tree without the proper tools or training can lead to major property damage or injury. A huge tree may need to be removed if it is diseased or dying and poses a safety risk, has suffered a blow from a storm and isn’t safe, or is growing into your home, your home’s foundation, your septic system, or your power lines. Removal costs for such large trees will depend on the tree’s height, diameter, and relative safety and accessibility, as well as whether you also need the felled tree and stump removed. The bare minimum for removal of a tree over 75 or 80 feet would be $1,000. This may not include tree quartering and removal or stump grinding. Stump grinding ranges on average from $2 to $4 per inch of the stump’s diameter. There is no set price as each situation is unique, so it’s always best to have an arborist give you a quote and detail exactly which services are included in the price.
