Movers that came to help us were very friendly, courteous and professional, they know how to arrange the load safely and efficiently. Movers came with plenty of furniture pads and wrap so that all items are secured. I am really happy to work with Rogers Moving. Keep up the good work boys !! I will definitely recommend Rogers Moving to others.

The movers arrived on time. We had a great move good communication. The only thing that wasn't communicated though was that I needed cash the day of the move to pay the movers. Other than that little setback the service was good.

Me and my wife had a wonderful move experience on 06/15. We moved from a one-bedroom apartment where we lived for 5 years, so we had collected a lot of stuff, like several work desks, sofa, chairs, bikes etc., that we needed to move ~50 miles to the suburbs area. We were extremely lucky to get a great crew from Apex Pinnacle movers - Emilio, Brandon and Takarya did a fantastic job. They helped us load the huge truck fast and efficient, carefully wrapped all the furniture and secured everything in the truck properly. After a long drive, they unloaded everything very fast and careful. Thank you guys again for a great job!

We just made a long distance move from Indiana to Boston. Melvin was consistently professional, responsive and accommodating. They even stopped part-way through the trip to pick up a few pieces of furniture from my parent's house on the way to the city! Throughout the actual move, Melvin and Mark were very friendly and made sure we knew where they were on their trip out in the truck. They were incredibly efficient in loading and unloading the truck, and made sure that all of our fragile things were handled with care. I would recommend SafeHands Movers to anyone looking to make a move, locally or long-distance.

The movers were punctual, very friendly, took extreme care in assembling and disassembling furniture, also moved it around a bit for us to see decoration wise and finished the job well within the time limit. I will definitely hire TLF services again.

The movers arrived within the scheduled hour. They were extremely hard workers and moved me into a 4th floor walk-up with no elevator. They tackled those three flights of stairs with smiles on their faces and a great attitude. Nothing was damaged and they were done very quickly! Thank you!!

I can't say enough about this company! We had three very prompt movers come to help us out on July 21st. They did everything in a timely manner, took very good care of our belongings and moving everything with care. We got quotes from 3 other companies and this one was by far the best! Thank you so much for helping out with everything. I have been raving about you guys ever since!

I thought the move would take longer because there were only 2 movers, but they were quick. They were also very careful with all of my boxes that were marked as fragile. I would definitely hire these movers again!

We are really glad we went with them. They were courteous, communicative, worked efficiently, and none of our furniture had any damage afterward. What a difference from the movers we hired previously. It was important to us to hire a family business- we really recommend them.

I called weeks ago and spoke with Jason in scheduling a move. Jason was very polite and courteous. He quoted me at a descent price of which I agree to. When the movers arrived on the date scheduled the foreman Esteban advised that the quote would be doubled based on the supplies, and additional services. I was discouraged and angry about this at first and demanded to speak with Jason. When I spoke with Jason he was patient and listened to my complaint . And tried to explain the extra costs involved but I wouldn't have it. After cooling down and seeing the team that moved, stored and busted their butts for me I was incredibly humbled. And realized I was wrong. Esteban, Jose, Chris, Rodrigo did a fabulous job! Jason was great as well. My only suggestion is that as I did share this on the phone with Jason is to have someone come out to the house where the move will take place to get a better idea of the costs involved. Conducting a quote on the phone does not serve the customer well. I hope Liberty Movers will take this in consideration as I believe this will take their company straight to the top! I will hire Liberty Movers again!!!

We had a great experience working with Will and his team at V1Painting. From the start we were very impressed with Will's professionalism and responsiveness. We messaged briefly through the app and Will was able to come over that same day to provide a quote. We used V1Painting to paint the entirety, (walls, trim, ceilings) of our 2 bedroom condo and they did a great job. They ensured all the surfaces were prepped properly prior to painting and covered all of our floors and belongings from damage. At the end of the day and project they made sure to clean up after themselves and put everything back where it was originally. My husband and I were in a time crunch as we wanted to get all the painting done before we had the movers deliver our furniture. The whole process, from submitting the project to finish, took less than a week. Will was very flexible with the timing and our work schedules. He was always on time. The team did a great job. I would 100% use them again for any painting I needed done and would recommend them to others as well. I have zero complaints.

Nice movers, on time, efficient, worked there butts off on one of the hottest days of the summer, up and down multiple flights of stairs for 2.5 hours and never once complained and or asked for a break. I had to remind them to take a break. Highly recommend their services if you have to move fast one a budget. The only thing they didn't offer were moving supplies and a truck.

Excellent customer service. Texted emailed me back and forth after 10 pm to help me get situated when I needed last minute movers. The guys arrived 15 minutes early, were courteous, super efficient and handled all my stuff with care. They finished precisely on time and charged me exactly the estimate. My friend helping me move was so impressed, she is hiring them for her move next month.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What do moving companies do?

Moving companies provide a range of services to help you physically move out of one residence and move into a new place. But moving companies can do so much more than just haul your belongings across town in a truck. The national average for moving company prices ($250-$350 per hour) reflects the range of services provided. Here are examples of all the ways moving companies can help:

  • Packing: Moving companies can pack your belongings for you. They typically charge a flat rate for both the box and the labor to pack the box. The more time-consuming the belongings are to pack, the higher the cost per box. For example, books could be $5 per box, linens $10 per box, and fine china and glassware $18 per box.
  • Specialty moving: Safely move a baby grand piano, a oversize aquarium, or other specialty items with the help of pro movers.
  • Storage: Many moving companies can store your belongings while you wait for a new home to be remodeled or closing of your new home to be finalized. If you’re moving long-distance, they often provide short-term storage free for a specific length of time, and a set rate after that (such as $60 per square cubic foot of storage space used).
  • Long-distance moves: No need to rent a trailer and move your things; a long-distance moving company can haul your belongings across the country for you. Typically they charge by the cubic foot for moves, with prices based on your destination.
  • Unpacking: Moving companies can even unpack your belongings for you after they have moved them. This is not as common, and will definitely increase the price, but can be helpful if you’re not able to tackle this task yourself.

How much does a moving company charge per hour?

When you’re ready to make a major move, it’s time to research moving companies’ prices. A moving company may charge on average anywhere between $25 and $100 per hour, per worker, for moving services. The price will vary with regional labor rates, local cost to do business, and the level of service the movers are providing. Nationally, the average hourly rate for a moving company is $250-$350 per hour. This price includes a range of pricing, from all-in service with four or more movers on site to standard hourly rates for one or two movers. Other factors that affect moving companies’ prices are packing, stairs (or elevators), and distance. For a full-service move, you pay movers to pack your belongings for you. You may pay for the cost of the moving boxes and an hourly rate per worker, and there may be additional charges for packing fragile items. Stairs will also add to your moving prices. Lifting and carrying boxes and furniture up and down stairs takes more time and creates more physical labor for the workers. Moving companies may charge flat rates for flights of stairs, such as $50-$70 per flight. A moving company may also charge a one-time fee for moving things via elevator, such as $75-$100. If parking is not accessible in front of your home or apartment building, there may also be an additional fee for the added distance to carry your belongings to the truck.

How much should you tip furniture movers?

Moving furniture is hard work and potentially dangerous unless you’re properly equipped. For anyone not ready to handle their heavy oak armoire alone, professional furniture movers can safely and efficiently move your items to another room in your house or across town as needed. The national average cost to hire heavy furniture movers is $150-$200 per hour. This rate could include multiple furniture movers working as a team to move items such as beds, armoires, billiards tables, pianos, shelves, tables, entertainment centers and more. Hourly rates can vary by region. If your furniture movers have arrived on time, done a great job, kept your home and belongings protected from scratches and dings, and completed the move as planned, a tip will be greatly appreciated. Moving companies suggest approximately 10 percent of the total bill as gratuity for those doing local moving jobs, which is also a good guideline for tipping heavy furniture movers. If the total bill for heavy moving was $100 and two workers were onsite, consider giving them $10 total, or $5 each for a job well done.

How much does it cost for long-distance movers?

Long-distance movers transport your belongings across the country for you. No more renting a trailer and road-tripping from state to state with your entire house hitched to your bumper. Long-distance movers make the move happen so you can fly to your new home, suitcase in hand, and wait for your furniture to arrive. Nationally, the average price range for long-distance movers is $1,490-$2,230. The distance you are moving and the number of cubic feet the movers have to transport will both affect cost. Another factor in long-distance moving costs is whether you choose to pay for an exclusive move or a consolidated move.

In an exclusive move, which is more expensive, your belongings are the only cargo on the moving truck. The movers travel directly to your new house and deliver your belongings on a scheduled day. A consolidated move is more affordable because the movers transport your belongings along with those of other people, saving them time and gas — which means you save money. The downside is that your belongings typically arrive with a two-week delivery window rather than on a prescheduled day. Read reviews to make sure you can trust the company with your possessions to ensure a peaceful moving process.

How much does it cost to move a one-bedroom apartment across the country?

Professional movers can handle the hard work of moving your one-bedroom apartment across the country for you. You can determine what your move will cost by learning the rate your movers charge per cubic foot and how they factor distance into the total cost. Cross-country movers typically charge based on your belongings rather than apartment size because that determines how much work they will have to do. For example, a studio apartment that is crammed full of things will take more work and moving truck space than the contents of a three-bedroom apartment with very little furniture.

Cross-country movers may also have varying rates, depending on where in the country you are moving. For example, a company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. A one-bedroom apartment costs approximately $1,500 to move across the country.
