FAQs
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have watched Ceasar Milan and read his books. I like him and his style of working with dogs. I have also read books about various breeds of dogs and try to learn as much as I can by reading, but time and experience with various breeds is really the best way to learn about them.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
I have been caring for children (between babysitting and raising my own) since I was 8 yrs. old. Cousins, friends, neighbors. This has been fun and provided many humorous memories over the years. My son is grown and moved out now, and I have had jobs working in offices over the years. Only this past year have I worked with dogs and been trained to work with a very specific type of dog. (Border Collies). The experience was fun, but not enough hours. With that job and the knowledge of how much I enjoyed it, I suddenly received more calls from family and friends to care for their pets when they went out of town. Dogs mostly but also birds, and I have a cat of my own (who thinks she's a dog - she will bring a toy and drop it at your feet just like a dog.) So it's just sort of snowballed from there.
- What types of customers have you worked with?
Pet sitting for a few days or a week when they go out of town. I am at my sisters right now watching her two Boston Terriers for the weekend while she and her husband are out of town. One is a rescue dog and his behavior can be very bad if you are not aware of what to watch for and what his needs are. I am aware and so things go very smoothly. I have also stayed at my cousins house for a week to house sit and watch her dog sofia - an entirely different situation. Sofia can be out off leash in the yard and in the park next to their yard (when no kids are there). She goes out about 3 times a day and I take her for one good walk a day. Great dog. Very laid back.
