Absolutely reliable. We had over 30 linear ft. of kitchen backsplash to be done with subway tile and an additional herring bone marble accent over the stove. Tyler could not have been more professional. On time, courteous, clean working, conscientious. Worked with us on design. Met all our requests enthusiastically. Provided very useful suggestions that had not occurred to us. Consistently professional attitude. Motivated and positive. Tyler's skill is exceptional and we look forward to working with him again on further important improvement projects. You will not be disappointed in his work ethic, attention to detail, and pride in his craftsmanship. He's willing to work with challenging schedules, and can be trusted to not say the job is done until you are satisfied. You will be. Do not hesitate to call him for a quote. You will honestly be impressed with his work.

Deb has helped me successfully several times. We sold our house in 2 weeks with her help on home staging. She made great suggestions on simplifying; moving furniture, pictures, decorations around for better appearance; paint color, etc. She also helped us with our full bathroom remodel. She chose the tile, listelle, which way to run the tile on floor and in shower, grout color, pencil trim. It looks beautiful. Never could have done this myself. She has also helped with placement of furniture. She knows how to use a room to it's fullest potential. She has helped with all the design choices for our new home. From brick color to lighting fixtures to flooring to granite to shingles.... She has an eye for color, knows what is trending, what to stay away from. She is a delight to work with and knows her stuff. I highly recommend Deb Bly.

My husband and I have worked with Erin several times over the past several years, and she is great! She worked within in our budget. She was able to use our current furniture and add small pieces and accent decor to make our home beautiful. I really feel that she listened to us and gave us exactly what we wanted in our design style with functionality. We actually just sold our home that she helped us decorate and the feedback we got from potential buyers was all positive including "your home looks like it should be in a magazine" and "beautiful home, very warm and inviting." We actually received full asking price for our home within 2 weeks of putting it on the market, and I know it was because of Erin's design. We cannot wait to work with Erin again and see what she does with our new home!

We used Keith and Innovative Remodeling & Structure for some millwork (board and batten style) in our entrance way. He re-constructed our columns in the great room to a modern farmhouse look. We love it! Great craftsmanship. He worked with us on the design to give us the look we wanted that flowed with the rest of the house. We were so happy with the work, that we added on a fireplace re-design. We resurfaced the dated brick with a more current gray stone. He rebuilt the mantle and created a shiplap trim design above the fireplace. We'll definitely use Keith again.

I hired Angela from Elegance by Design as my interior designer and it was a great decision. Angela is not only a designer but can be your general contractor or you can use your own contractor and hire her as a designer and she can also project manage your contractor so you aren’t stuck dealing with every detail. She’s very thorough and passionate about design. As a homeowner you’re emotionally tied to certain things or how you think things should be, however she take a holistic design approach and looks at the space you want to design and gives you ideas of what things can look like based on your style and what would appeal to others if you were to ever sell in the future. She’s detailed oriented and a perfectionist. She gave me an idea to cut a piece of drywall in the bathroom that added minimal cost but added much more return to the value of my bathroom having a fireplace which you usually don’t see in homes which I’ll get back if I sell this home. She also helps you pick up material and has saved me money and chosen the right material like lights and tile which I was going to pay a lot more for. Never using a designer I didn’t know what to expect and now having one I know that any remodeling I will do I will use a designer more specifically Angela from Elegance by Design.

I had the interior and exterior of my home painted, along with power washing. The job was great! Everything looked brand new, and didn't take as long as I expected it to. I'll also say the price was pretty low as well. I would recommended SBC to my neighbors any day.

Leave the entire project to Kelly, or pick and choose from the list below. Space Planning – Furniture plans are an absolute must before purchasing new furniture for your space. There are usually several different options for laying out furniture in a room. Determining the layout that works best for your lifestyle and selecting pieces with the proper scale is essential. These plans will help you avoid costly mistakes. Furniture – Kelly Brasch Interiors has access to countless furniture brands at several different price points. Whether you’re interested in higher end furnishings that are only available through designers or more moderately priced brands you might find at a retail store, Kelly will select furniture, fabrics, and finishes to suit your style and your budget. Fabrics and finishes can be viewed in your home to ensure they coordinate with items you already own. Window Treatments – Kelly designs window treatments with décor, light control, and privacy considerations in mind. They may consist of custom draperies, decorative hardware, top treatments, blinds, window shades, or a combination of these items. Kelly works with expert installers and experienced workrooms to produce your custom window designs. If custom treatments aren’t in your budget, she will shop for store-bought window treatments and drapery hardware. Carpeting, Flooring, and Area Rugs – If you’re considering carpet, tile, wood, stone, slate, bamboo, or cork flooring, Kelly will source the perfect solution for your space. Add that extra layer and warm up your space with an area rug expertly selected to beautifully complement your room. Lighting – A well-thought-out lighting plan allows you to change the atmosphere of a room. Sometimes, you want a well-lit room and other times, you want a more ambient feel. Kelly will recommend a combination of chandeliers, pendants, sconces, lamps, recessed and track lighting, and dimmers. The result will be beautiful from a design standpoint and practical to support the many functions of your space. Accessories – Accessories are the jewelry of a room, and Kelly will shop for accessories to give your space that final touch. Sourcing accessories from designer showrooms, specialty boutiques, retail shops, and discount stores, your budget will determine where the majority of accessories will be purchased from. Materials and Finishes Selection – Selecting that perfect furniture fabric, cabinet finish, countertop, tile backsplash, wood floor, or carpet can be a daunting task. Kelly will help you with these selections, ensuring everything works beautifully together. Wall Coverings and Decorative Paint Finishes – With access to a wide array of designer wall coverings and skilled decorative painters, Kelly will recommend just the right treatment for your space. Paint Color Consultations – Choosing a paint color on your own can be overwhelming. With Kelly’s eye for color, you can be confident that you’ll get it right the first time. Room Redesigns – New furnishings aren’t in the budget? No problem, because Kelly will help you redesign a room or your entire home with the items you already have. Renewed furniture and accessory placement will bring a room from drab to fab!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What do interior designers do?

Interior designers do much more than pick complementary paint colors and choose matching furniture — although those tasks are important parts of the job. Unlike decorators, interior designers usually have an associate of science degree or certificate of achievement in interior design from an accredited program. They’re trained in drafting, lighting and computer aided design (CAD), and are experts in room-specific design and residential space planning. Interior designers use these skills to plan and design safe, highly functional and beautiful interior spaces, from kitchens and bathrooms to family rooms and bedrooms. They determine space requirements, work within building codes and inspection regulations, and meet accessibility standards. An interior designer’s day-to-day job includes creative and technical tasks, both of which often require great communication skills:

  • Creating model rooms and visuals using design software.
  • Researching different textiles, materials, finishes, lighting and furniture.
  • Hiring suppliers, vendors, and contractors.
  • Estimating costs and making bids on potential jobs.

How do you find a good interior designer?

For many homeowners, the difference between a good interior designer and a bad one is simply a matter of taste — but all good designers have similar skill sets. Interior designers usually have a degree or certificate in interior design, with training in design principles and lighting, drafting, and computer aided design (CAD) software. Good interior designers have strong color balancing skills and understand how different colors influence spatial perception and moods. They know the building and electrical codes in the areas where they practice, and they make sure that any contractors they hire also work to those codes. They are knowledgeable about different upholstery fabrics and draperies, stay ahead of residential design trends, and maintain their own individual creativity. Also, good interior designers have excellent space designing skills, so they can arrange a space efficiently and with ideal traffic flow. Ultimately, hiring a good interior designer means pinpointing one whose signature style is complementary to your personal style — so checking out many designers’ portfolios is a must — and whose communication methods match yours.

How do you choose an interior designer?

Choosing an interior designer is all about finding one whose signature style fits well with your tastes and who can work within your budget. To choose the right professional for your interior design project, ask yourself these five questions:

  • What is your signature style? Good interior designers can both describe their personal aesthetic and demonstrate their signature style through their portfolios. Make sure it appeals to you.
  • How will you make sure the design fits my lifestyle? Good designers understand that the interior design must improve a homeowner’s experience in their home and fit into their lifestyle; for example, a white suede sofa is a poor choice for a family with large dogs and small children.
  • How much do you charge? Depending on the project, an interior designer may charge an hourly rate, a flat fee or a percentage of the project’s total cost.
  • How will you stick to my budget? An interior designer should have a plan for staying within your budget, which includes full transparency of costs and flexibility when choosing materials and furnishings.

Because an interior design project is highly collaborative and based on hard-to-define personal preferences, it’s most important to choose a designer who communicates clearly and listens closely to you.

How much do interior designers charge?

You can hire an interior design for a job as basic as a one-room consultation or as complex as supervising the design of an entire new home, helping with space planning, choosing color palettes, and shopping for furniture, flooring and artwork. The size and scope of the job will determine how much an interior designer charges; the average national cost for an interior designer ranges from $75 to $100 or more per hour. Other cost factors include the person’s reputation — interior designers to the stars are usually more expensive — and region. Most interior designers charge an average of $100-$225 for an initial consultation, but some will charge an hourly rate, usually starting at an average of $50, for larger projects that require extensive consultations. Hourly rates may be available for smaller projects, such as redecorating a living room or staging a home for sale; for instance, shopping and consulting can cost an average of $75 to $100 per hour, while staging costs and average $95 per hour. For many homeowners, a percentage of an interior designer’s cost is recouped through the professional discounts they receive from their vendors.
