These guys were awesome! Went above and beyond on the job. Thanks so much. Even after moving the duck house through The mud and being attacked and stung by wasps!

These guys made the best of a bad situation , I had planned on moving from the house into pods because we were afraid our new house wouldn't be ready ... I scheduled that type of move and forgot to call back and tell them we were actually moving house to house. They showed up with out a truck ( at my request ) ... then it hit me oh crap I forgot to call them , with in 30 minutes they had a truck and an extra guy to get me moved fast. All our furniture was less than a year old and some items extra large and heavy ... I've had 4 previous movers 4 and this is the first time nothing was damaged! They wrapped all my furniture , I've never seen that, I've heard they are suppose to but never do .. these guys wrapped soft sided furniture and then carefully wrapped with blankets my hard sided furniture.. our new 6x5 head board wouldn't fit up the stairs of the new house and they helped hoist it through a second story window !! ( please note our windows open 6 ft wide won't work for everyone ) we had some new furniture already at the house in the garage and moved it into the house as well... I can not say enough good things about them ... our home was weeks behind and this was the one thing in the precess where something went right !!! Prices are overly seriously reasonable !!! It's been only a day so don't judge the pictures

We decided to look for help moving into a new apartment only 2 days prior to the move from a city 3 hours away. We submitted the info on Thumbtack early on a Monday morning then rec'd an email back in less than an hour, with 2 add'l companies contacting us later. The 1st company, Wii Move 4 U, seemed fine and was able to fit us into their schedule on short notice. We chose them from Alan Harris's prompt response without too much research because we were simply running out of time to research. I'm happy to report all went well. We had "Fred" and "Nick". They arrived in company shirts and worked promptly and efficiently. They were were obviously experienced and used to working together. They had a good system of communication with each other. They were friendly, professional - and strong, carrying our heaviest items up to a third floor location. They made our move in much easier for us and we'd be happy to work with them again. Our money spent for help from Nick and Fred was money well spent! We'll call Wii Move 4 U first when we're ready to move again in 2-3 years.

I hired Tyler for a move and him and his counterpart John did an excellent job. They took great care of all my items while moving and even helped organize the storage unit once they unloaded. I highly recommend Tyler. A great experience at a great price.

Good experience, they were busy so a little late getting to project, but made up for it by working hard on a Saturday to finish up so I could move to my next step. I would hire them again.

Our experience with Personal Touch Painting has been amazing! We decided to have our front livingroom painted, as we do about every three years. We have used different contractors before in the past, but this company had incredible reviews so before even meeting them I knew I would not be disappointed. They were on time for our first face to room meeting, and within 20 mins we had scheduled for the work to begin within two days with the scheduled completion of one 8 hour day. Keep in mind the room we had painted is the busiest, most visited room in the house at all times with the most furniture. Day of work again began with punctuality with Wesley and Justin arriving ready with all materials, and professionalism. I have never seen a painter previously care about the preservation of his clients belongings as Wesley did. These guys are the real deal!! Wesley recommended using BreakThrough paint by PPG, and honestly my room has never looked so good. Clean cut lines, vibrant color, and it really gives the room a brand new feel. Wesley and Justin put everything back in place, cleaned up work area and finished ahead of schedule by 3 hours. We were beyond impressed and have already scheduled for them to do additional work on our home. I will only recommend Personal Touch Painting moving forward.

I had hired Gomez to move my studio apartment to another apartment on the 3rd floor. The workers were efficient and careful in moving my furniture to the new apartment. They were also quick to work with the problems of my new apartment's management company as we were locked out (unintentionally due to January 1st being a holiday for my move in day) by moving more furniture from outside in the -12F weather inside to the first floor until we could get access to the 3rd floor. I would highly recommend them for moving again.

We have moved several times and a few times across country. Our experience with Great Nation Moving was by far the easiest and hassle free experience that we have had with moving. They sent over an appraiser who was able to give us a quote after walking through our house and seeing what we owned and were moving. He was within $50 of our ending price, so it extremely accurate. The pricing was in-line with several other companies that we had quote out the job. Rose, their sales/account manager, was great. We explained that we needed to move from within a specific time frame, and they were able to accommodate to our schedule. We were driving to our new home as soon as the movers were done packing everything up, and they even accommodated a faster pack up by adding an additional member to the crew packing up our belongings. They delivered our items in less than a week, which was much faster than our past experiences. Rose kept me posted on the progress of everything throughout the process and seemed to be working 24 hrs a day to make sure we were comfortable and in the know of what was going on. She even called within 30 minutes of the delivery of our items to see how everything went. We did have some slight damage on one item, which we were not bothered with as the item was beat up from a previous move. Without us filing a complaint, Rose was able to get us a check to cover the damages. Overall it was some of the best customer service I have experienced. Its always a headache and there is always the hidden issues that pop up along the way, however, I felt Rose kept us in the know and ahead of the curve with the move. That goes a long way when you have literally everything you own in their hands.

I'm sure EasyPath is a frustrated with me as I am with them. I hired this crew due to there reviews and statement that they have not had any claims... I will attempt to be as fair as I can in this review. Highlights/lowlights * I liked the crew / they worked hard + * The estimate was way to optimistic. - * They went over 2 hours budget. They did adjust some for us + * The truck was very well packed, but still had some damage+- The trailer was not, significant damage-- * I had 5 pieces of furniture damaged significantly(3)or destroyed and at this point they have been unresponsive as to a claim(early response 7 days ago, "Let me know how we can help" I responded with pictures and specific request. I have received no response since then--- Hopefully they are just on vacation... * They were late at least an hour for the walk through and the moving day. -- So some good, more not so good. I do have high expectations, but I don't believe I'm being unreasonable.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What do moving companies do?

Moving companies provide a range of services to help you physically move out of one residence and move into a new place. But moving companies can do so much more than just haul your belongings across town in a truck. The national average for moving company prices ($250-$350 per hour) reflects the range of services provided. Here are examples of all the ways moving companies can help:

  • Packing: Moving companies can pack your belongings for you. They typically charge a flat rate for both the box and the labor to pack the box. The more time-consuming the belongings are to pack, the higher the cost per box. For example, books could be $5 per box, linens $10 per box, and fine china and glassware $18 per box.
  • Specialty moving: Safely move a baby grand piano, a oversize aquarium, or other specialty items with the help of pro movers.
  • Storage: Many moving companies can store your belongings while you wait for a new home to be remodeled or closing of your new home to be finalized. If you’re moving long-distance, they often provide short-term storage free for a specific length of time, and a set rate after that (such as $60 per square cubic foot of storage space used).
  • Long-distance moves: No need to rent a trailer and move your things; a long-distance moving company can haul your belongings across the country for you. Typically they charge by the cubic foot for moves, with prices based on your destination.
  • Unpacking: Moving companies can even unpack your belongings for you after they have moved them. This is not as common, and will definitely increase the price, but can be helpful if you’re not able to tackle this task yourself.

How much does a moving company charge per hour?

When you’re ready to make a major move, it’s time to research moving companies’ prices. A moving company may charge on average anywhere between $25 and $100 per hour, per worker, for moving services. The price will vary with regional labor rates, local cost to do business, and the level of service the movers are providing. Nationally, the average hourly rate for a moving company is $250-$350 per hour. This price includes a range of pricing, from all-in service with four or more movers on site to standard hourly rates for one or two movers. Other factors that affect moving companies’ prices are packing, stairs (or elevators), and distance. For a full-service move, you pay movers to pack your belongings for you. You may pay for the cost of the moving boxes and an hourly rate per worker, and there may be additional charges for packing fragile items. Stairs will also add to your moving prices. Lifting and carrying boxes and furniture up and down stairs takes more time and creates more physical labor for the workers. Moving companies may charge flat rates for flights of stairs, such as $50-$70 per flight. A moving company may also charge a one-time fee for moving things via elevator, such as $75-$100. If parking is not accessible in front of your home or apartment building, there may also be an additional fee for the added distance to carry your belongings to the truck.

How much does it cost for long-distance movers?

Long-distance movers transport your belongings across the country for you. No more renting a trailer and road-tripping from state to state with your entire house hitched to your bumper. Long-distance movers make the move happen so you can fly to your new home, suitcase in hand, and wait for your furniture to arrive. Nationally, the average price range for long-distance movers is $1,490-$2,230. The distance you are moving and the number of cubic feet the movers have to transport will both affect cost. Another factor in long-distance moving costs is whether you choose to pay for an exclusive move or a consolidated move.

In an exclusive move, which is more expensive, your belongings are the only cargo on the moving truck. The movers travel directly to your new house and deliver your belongings on a scheduled day. A consolidated move is more affordable because the movers transport your belongings along with those of other people, saving them time and gas — which means you save money. The downside is that your belongings typically arrive with a two-week delivery window rather than on a prescheduled day. Read reviews to make sure you can trust the company with your possessions to ensure a peaceful moving process.

How much does it cost to move a one-bedroom apartment across the country?

Professional movers can handle the hard work of moving your one-bedroom apartment across the country for you. You can determine what your move will cost by learning the rate your movers charge per cubic foot and how they factor distance into the total cost. Cross-country movers typically charge based on your belongings rather than apartment size because that determines how much work they will have to do. For example, a studio apartment that is crammed full of things will take more work and moving truck space than the contents of a three-bedroom apartment with very little furniture.

Cross-country movers may also have varying rates, depending on where in the country you are moving. For example, a company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. A one-bedroom apartment costs approximately $1,500 to move across the country.

How much does it cost to move across the country?

The national average cost for hiring cross-country movers is $1,490-$2,220. A number of factors can affect the cost. One factor is the distance you want to move. For example, an East Coast-based moving company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. Another factor is how many belongings you have. Most cross-country movers charge by the cubic foot.

The type of move you want is another consideration in cost. You can have your belongings moved exclusively and delivered on a set day, or you can opt for a consolidated move, which is less expensive. In a consolidated move your belongings are stored and transported with the goods of other customers who are moving to your general vicinity during the same general time frame as you. Your belongings should arrive within a one- to two-week window, rather than on a set day. If you want the cross-country movers to pack your belongings for you, the cost will also increase.
