Follow up to doug s review Jason left our job with 1/2 the roof undone. A dormer framed but not roofed. The dormer had some siding on it but had to be taking off and redone. One of the bay windows that Jason personally did is incomplete and doubtful if it's weather tight for this winter.so the front of our house has one of two dormers on it and 1/2 new roof and 1/2 old roof. And its Dec 3 2014. Winter coming fast and we have been hosed by a shoddy contractor. If we could give negative stares we would. We lost $1500.00 in worked owed. Jason has no assets to his name so a law suit would be in vain. He also skipped out on his help for two weeks pay. We did everything we could to make the job easier on them because they need to make money and they need to be happy because happy workers will do a better job. Not the case here I would look for another contractor. Because when he gets in what ever mood he's in he doesn't answer his phone or E mails

I hate to even have to respond to these types of reviews but I have no choice. Doug (homeowner) and my lead carpenter decided to come up with a plan to cut me out and save him some money at the same make more money for my lead guy/partner. Unfortunately, it sounds like it didn't turn out the way he had hoped. Doug (homeowner) and my worker had been communicating and came up with a plan to cut me out. My worker (who was also partner w/ me on this particular job) came to me and told me he wasn't able to finish the job because he couldn't make it to the end of the job (financially) but Doug was willing to pay him directly if I would be willing to void our contract. I didn't really like this idea but I felt I had no choice. I couldn't finish the job in a professional and timely manner with my partner backing out (my mistake-- won't happen again!) and it sounded like my partner and Doug had become "buddies" and they both wanted to complete the job together, so I agreed to Doug's wishes to terminate our contract and honestly, I hoped things worked out well for Doug. Naturally, I have no interest in having angry customers-- quite the opposite! Unfortunately, it sounds like things didn't go as Doug had hoped by cutting me out. That much is out of my control and in hindsight, I wish I hadn't been talked into voiding our contract, but as I said, I honestly did what I thought would make him the happiest. If anyone is thinking of hiring me and this review is weighing on your decision, I would be happy to personally explain the situation to you and let you decide. I do not want to resort to "bashing" past customers-- no one wins in that situation. I can say that I would be more than willing to show future prospects my email communications with Doug and let them come to their own conclusions as to what happened. Thanks all for your time!

If you happen to connect with Candor or Jason please tell him to return my trim work or at the very least just respond to us. We'd love to hear from them after they abandoned us!
Candor Construction & Remodeling's reply
We have been in business for many years and to my knowledge, this is the absolute only "negative" review we've ever received. Unfortunately, it isn't valid and our only option is to tell our side of the story, so here it is: We did complete a small job for David. We replaced a patio door for him. It seemed to go great and David was happy and wrote us a check. At some point after this, I received a voicemail from David concerning some trim that had not been installed. I will say this: I was VERY busy that month and it took me 3 days to return his voicemail (which is evidently the time frame that he went around posting that we abandoned him). It shouldn't have taken this long and I have since created written communications policy for our company to make sure this never happens again! But back to the trim: I couldn't imagine what trim he was talking about because it was a very basic job that only included 3 pieced of trim, which would have been extremely noticeable before he paid us-- but hey, things do happen and if we made a mistake, I wanted to make it right. David sent over some pics of what he was talking about and it was nothing at all to do with the patio door we replaced. It looked like (from the pics) it had to do with his garage door on a different area of the home. There are only two explanations for this misunderstanding: 1) David was looking to get some work done for free which does occasionally happen to us, but I honestly have a hard time believing this because he was such a nice and reasonable guy. I'm thinking that he might have gotten us confused with another contractor who worked on this other part of his home--I honestly don't know, but it was clearly not something that we had been a part of. In the end, when you have been in business for any measureable length of time, you're bound to have a bad review once in a while, whether legitimate or not. Our goal is to learn from these should they ever happen, which is why we've implemented a written communications policy that we believe is the best in the industry!

We used Candor for a small bathtub repair last year and again just last month we hired their exterior remodeling division for a new roof and gutters. Their work and professionalism exceeded our expectations. We would certainly hire them in the future and they will be getting our vote for best remodel company in Indianapolis on @IndyAList.

They built us a nice patio deck and repaired the gate to our privacy fence. Overall, I was pleased with them and their price was terrific.
