*****Update: Customer Service reached out to me pretty quickly to make things right. They apologized for my experience and were willing to do what it took to make things right for me and THEY DID!! They explained that the experience I had is not a reflection of their company and couldn’t apologize enough. I did use them because I do believe in giving people and businesses chances. I thank them for their accountability and making the situation right. They were also willing to send out another service person free of charge. I did explain that the service person did essentially fix my original concerns, so that wasn’t necessary. I appreciate them and their willingness to make the situation tight. ****Update
Use DISTINCTIVE GARAGE Instead
Where do I start? A service person named Mike came out due to my garagedoor not closing all the way and making awful noises when it opened and closed. He told me it was going to be $300 for what essentially was a tune-up. He quoted me $155 to reprogram the limits on the door so it would close all the way (garage is equipment is over 10 yrs old) and then $145 for lube and tightening. I took down the information he told me and politely told him that I would check other companies and go with the best. He then told me well that would be $49. Befuddled, I asked for what? He said “the service call”. It said on thumbtack it was a free service call(first hidden fee). Nowhere did it say it was a free service call only if we do the work(because I would have never reached out). He said well it’s $49 and they would have ate that if I had fixed with them. I went inside to get my phone that I used for thumbtack to show him their own information. When I came back, he offered to do it for $200. That still seemed like ALOT, but I didn’t want to pay them $49 either(for not doing the work). So figuring I was going to have to pay something I opted to just let him do the tune-up. After he was done over charging me for the service. I was still hearing a lot of noise from the door. The previous home owner put shielded styrofoam in the door for insulation and Mike proceeded to tell me that styrofoam was the noise that I was hearing. I said well I’m no garagedoor professional but I know what rubbing styrofoam sounds like and the sound I hear is not that. After the back and forth I just conceded that I didn’t believe that was the noise and wasn’t happy with the end result. My door does close and the sound got better but overall, I wasn’t happy. Well, time to pay and he doesn’t accept some payment methods I have(Cashapp, PayPal, etc). So I go grab a credit card to pay. I tap and pay my card on his phone. As I watch him, he puts in $210 as was trying to skip to the signature page. I asked him why was he charging me $210 when he told me $200. He said it was a charge for using the credit card (another hidden fee that he didn’t bother to mention and wouldn’t have mentioned if I hadn’t taken notice). So now I tell him that he has shady business practices and on thumbtack the first question on what customers should know about them is they don’t have hidden fees and I have had 2. He tried to say that he is not thumbtack, that he is his own business. I said yes, using thumbtack as a means to find customers and get yourself out there. I told him the information they put in thumbtack is about THEIR business. He didn’t want to hear what I had to say and nastily said he had other customers. I wouldn’t recommend this company to my worst enemy. Just know if you do decide to use them the service call IS NOT FREE. They will charge you unless you do the work with them. Then they will overcharge you for the work. I had 2 more companies come out after he left because I was so dissatisfied with the work. None tried to claim it was the styrofoam but did explain I had a cheap builder’s grade garage door on a chain pull system, and was loose and had a lot of movement. So I was hearing a lot of normal noise for the door I had. The gentleman from Distinctive Garage also Mike, we will call him Good Mike. Good Mike went as far to notice my emergency pull rope was missing. Something, I wasn’t even aware of, and Good Mike put one on for us. Good Mike was very competent and explained things to me(free of charge) and I wish I had gone with him rather than giving this business a chance, because I believe people and businesses deserve chances. So despite having no reviews, I took a chance with this company and they were a huge disappointment. This was my experience and I would never call them again, 0/10 wouldn’t recommend!
