"Ron answered our call himself and was able to do the work very promptly, which in comparison to other electricians in the area who would not return our calls, this is very important. We are glad to have the work done and feel that it is done well. However, this experience has taught us to not hire contractors on a time and materials basis as we were all surprised by the final bill, which left a bit of a bad taste in our mouths.Ron was friendly and spent a lot of time starting conversations during billable hours, but did not extend that friendliness when it came time for billing, and did not offer any discounts for time spent talking or for help he requested from me. I was foolish enough to think that more consideration would be spent at the end to make sure that we were happy with the price, and did not have it in me to fight with him at the end of the job when it seemed very certain that he had made his mind up.The biggest objection is that we were charged for nearly a full day, at $70/hr, for purchasing materials. We understand that there is a certain amount of knowledge required to get the right materials, but it should not take 8 hours to go to a supply house. What we learned from this is to always get a price beforehand and make sure that you are happy with it before agreeing to the work. We were happy with the quality of the work but not with the price. It was my naivety that led me to believe he would be more accommodating when making the bill."
