- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
When we come out to bid your project, it takes roughly 1 hour. You will have your price before I walk out the door. That price is never adjusted or added to unless you want more work done. If that is ever the case a change order is signed by both parties before any of the work is started. I try to give you more than one price to look at for comparison. For example, an on an interior painting bid, I might give you a price that includes the whole house, then give you a price without closets, then one without closets and ceilings.
- What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
Does the contractor provide references the day he comes out to bid your project? Does the contractor provide a 3 exterior and 5 year interior written warranty which is transferable to the next homeowner? Is the proposal clear and understandable stating preparation detail, number of coats, and type of paint or stain used? Does the contractor require 0 down payment on most interior and exterior projects? Does the contractor moisture test exterior substrates ensuring that moisture levels are under 15% before applying paint or stain? Does the contractor use employees rather than sub-contractors with over 50 years of combined experience? Is a supervisor on-site from start to finish? Does the contractor perform nation-wide criminal background checks and drug screenings on all his employees for your safety and well-being? Does the contractor have a written employee handbook with policies against loud music, smoking, and inappropriate language on the jobsite? Does the contractor provide a final walk-through at the end of the project ensuring each detail was completed according to the work order before we ask for the final payment? Is the contractor a member of his trade association, Painting and Decorating Contractors of America, www.pdca.org and Better Business Bureau? www.bbb.org Does the contractor have a website with photos and testimonials of his work? www.matthewspainting.com Is the contractor a registered contractor with the State of Indiana? Does the contractor carry 1 million in liability insurance, 1 million umbrella, and a Workmens Compensation policy on all his employees? Does the contractor take credit cards or offer other payment plans? Has the contractor completed over 6 months of safety training through Genesis Safety Consultants in Warsaw, Indiana and completed their 10 hour OSHA? Has the Contractor fulfilled the requirements of the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA) Section 402, and received EPA certification to conduct lead-based paint renovation, repair, and painting activities?
