I had multiple leaks in the drain system in a house I moved into 7 months ago. Needed a professional to help, due to recent back surgery. Bill responded to the work I requested and we discussed an additional project for the drain system. He and his son came to my home, replaced seals in 2 toilets, repaired a leaking bathtub drain and installed an isolation shut-off and pressure clean-out valve of my design into my drain system. They were competent, knowledgeable and efficient in finding the root causes of my problems and repairing them. They went to extra lengths to remove their shoes and cleaned up very well after the job was done. I highly recommend them. Thanks.

Grady did a great job for us installing blinds and repairing a door lock. He works fast and charges a fair price for his work.

Bill Griffin did a kitchen remodel for me. Totally gutted kitchen. Put in a floating tile floor, painted, replaced some molding and installed new cabinets. The job was in Clinton, Indiana. Mr. Griffin is very precise in his work and VERY particular about the results. Nothing was left dirty or undone. All "messes" were cleaned. He goes above and beyond pleasing the customer and making sure he does what the customer asks for with no questioning on his part. He will make suggestions only if asked. I would have him do work for me again. I was very pleased with the results of his work.

Harold installed a drapery rod for me. I was concerned that the job would be too small for a contractor, but he assured me it was not. He was prompt, courteous, careful, neat, and--above all--very skilled. After a quick twenty minutes, I now have drapes in my new space. I highly recommend Harold for any job---large or small.

I highly recommend Bob and Rob Furnas. They have done everything for me from installing windows and doors to small repairs to complicated wood working repair of an antique table. They are wonderfully competent, efficient and reasonably priced. I like and trust them and all the people that work for them.

I had installed countertops, Brant took it from there. He cut the hole for the sink, plumbed the sink and garbage disposal, hooked up the dishwasher drain outlet and fixed the "slow drain" problem we had before. Great job. Very professional and thorough. Would highly recommend him.

We had a fantastic experience from the first phone call to our roof installed. When I called All N 1, I already had approximately 8 estimates for a roof tear-off and replacement. We wanted to be informed on what our true situation was and wanted to find a contractor we trusted. Let me tell you. After we called All N 1, they were in route to a job site. Owner Dee told me, when we complete this job, we will come by and assess your situation for a quote. They did just that. My wife and I were working in the back yard when they showed up. We had several contractors tell us they will show up, and were stood up for quotes. All N 1 kept in communication that day all the way up to showing up. Upon showing up, their crew immediately dispersed to assess our roof situation. 2 were on the roof immediately, after shaking hands and making eye contact. 2 were walking the perimeter to assess the situation. Dee was talking with us about what they were about and what they can offer. During the conversation, the crew on the roof was giving us information. They even offered us advice on issues they saw not related to the roof, no obligation, just sharing the information as they identified issues. All legitimate. We were immediately impressed with this crew and how they handled their business. We had a quote back that night. We decided to go with All N one. Communication was better than expected being very disappointed with many who we had quoted, including the "big" guys. What is most impressive is, they delivered confidently exactly what they told us they would do for us. They are confident because they do not over emphasize what they do, they just do what they do, for a living, and they respect you as they do it. We could hold a conversation with anyone from their crew, and great people, each and every one. I wish I could better describe the experience other than the following: They told us what they will do for the price, and they delivered better than expectations. They are efficient, hard working, knowledgeable, professional, RESPECTFUL, contractors. I am proud of people who work this way. Thank you All N 1. We are soooo happy.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you replace a window?

You may want to replace a window if the glass has been damaged, you’re remodeling a room, or you want to upgrade your energy efficiency as well as your style by getting rid of those drafty single panes that are losing you money. When replacing a window, you can remove and replace the entire window down to the house frame. This method is best if the existing frame is damaged or deteriorating, but requires construction skills and know-how and will take more time and money. An easier and less expensive option is to install an insert replacement window into the existing frame. Insert replacements are only an option if your window frame is in good condition without rot or damage.

When replacing an entire window, first you’ll carefully remove the existing window with a pry bar and other tools. Next, you’ll make any repairs and adjustments needed to the existing frame or header and studs to ensure that the space is perfectly plumb and square, so the new window will sit perfectly within the space. Next, install the new window from the exterior, securing it into place. You’ll need to precisely wrap and insulate the window to ensure it doesn’t leak. Then, install the interior casing and exterior trim (as needed). If you prefer to hire a professional to install a window, consider replacing more than one window at a time, as the pro can work more efficiently.

How much is a custom window?

Choosing custom windows will increase your window installation cost but will provide you with exactly what you want. The average national cost for window installation is $2,650. Your custom window costs will vary based on several factors. The first factor is the type of frame you want. The four most common types of frames are vinyl, fiberglass, aluminum and wood. Wood is typically the most expensive option, followed by aluminum. The type of glass you select will also affect cost. There are single-, double- and triple-pane windows. Most double- and triple-pane windows have gas sealed between the panes that act as insulation. Windows typically cost more the more energy-efficient they are, though this efficiency can save you money on utility bills in the long run. The type of glass used can also affect cost. There are different grades of glass — high-performance glass, low-e coated glass, and more — which all provide you with better insulation. In addition, the number of unified inches (window height x window width) you need will affect cost. The cost of custom windows will also be affected by installation cost and whether any repair or construction work is required to properly fit the new window.

How much would it cost to put in new windows?

The cost to replace a window can vary depending on factors such as window size, type of glass, brand of window, necessary trim repair, and any construction work required for installation. Labor rates and cost to do business in your region will also affect the cost. The national average window installation cost is $2,650 per project. Here are some examples of average trim repair and window replacement costs:

    • Trim repair:
      • Line and case a window frame with an MDF product: $400.
      • Line and case a window frame with raw hemlock wood: $500.
    • Approximate cost to install five windows at one time: $3,000.
    • Approximate cost to install one double-hung, energy-efficient 3-foot by 4-foot window: $500-$550.
      • For the same window size (3-foot by 4-foot) from a different manufacturer made with a specialty fiberglass exterior and all-wood interior, the cost could go up to $1,500.
      • Pricing can go as high as $5,000 for a bay or bow window with specialty glass and framing.
        • These examples include removal and disposal of old materials and window.
