This was my first time using thumbtack and I am glad I did. I had a kitchen faucet installed. Appointment was within a few hours of my request, communication was great, price was reasonable, work quality and professionalism were great as well. I would use this company again.

Joe was very professional and I feel that he gave me a fair price. He took the time to explain how the new & easier shut off values worked for my outdoor faucets and I am extremely happy with my new kitchen faucet that is more modern and doesn't leak. I will hire him again in the future.

We just bought a new house, and had two minor problems, a slow draining bathtub, and bad filling valves and flapper valve in a toilet. Julian responded immediately to my Thumbtack project, and suggested a time to stop by the next day (Sunday, wow!). He worked quickly & efficiently, solved both problems and charged a fair price in line with his Thumbtack quote. Those alone would probably merit a 5-star review. But even more impressive were the little things that he did. 1) He brought shoe covers to wear in the house to protect our floors from his work boots (awesome idea... many handymen could take this advice!) 2) He let me peek over his shoulder and watch him work while he explained what he was doing and how I could duplicate it for small projects (like toilet repair) in the future - I was interested in learning a bit more about DIY plumbing. 3) He offered advice and instructions for other minor plumbing projects I wanted to tackle as DIY. 4) At my request, he did a 5-minute walk-through of other plumbing systems in the house to assess their state, and suggested a few very reasonable/logical things I might want to address as the new home-owner (e.g. some pipe-freezing risks in my old house crawl-space, etc.) A great experience overall. I'll definitely be calling Julian again if the need arises.

EBRR crew did a great job with our attic installation. And more importantly, the job was done very neatly and quickly. They came and measured on Monday and our work was done Wednesday. Quick turnaround makes a big difference when you are in a need.

I hired Evolve Remodeling to do repairs to my bathtub tiles. He was able to come and give me a free estimate when I needed him to come. His estimate was very reasonable and fair. Unfortunately David was injured the morning he was supposed to come and do the job. So he was unable to start and I had to find someone else.

Jenrri was a pleasure to work with! He removed a granite backsplash and installed tile for our kitchen backsplash and front of our kitchen island. Jenrri was communicative throughout the process and professional. We’re 100% happy with his work and the process (and we’re annoyingly particular people!).

Patrick successfully installed our new bathtub, new cut-off valves, and a replacement sink faucet, and he attempted to fix our drippy shower (but it would not cooperate--probably have to replace the whole thing). He was a good communicator and had a calm, professional manner, despite some hiccups in our old plumbing. He persevered through several necessary trips to the hardware store and an emergency call-back to his main day job, but he was willing to work late hours and on a Sunday to finish it up. And the price was very competitive.

I needed an outlet installed prior to a washer/dryer installation, with short notice. Rolando responded within 5 min. of my posting and it was all done within 24hrs. I immediately referred him to several others in my building who needed the same thing done. Great guy, knowledgeable and quick. Solid work.

Simply put - Deck Wonders provided us with excellent service and we look forward to hiring them for future flooring and/or deck needs. In fact --- after having our tile installed by Deck Wonders, we hired them for a second project installing beadboard in our laundry room. Deck Wonders is a great company to hire because they are affordable, communicate their schedule and needs properly, do the job right, and finish within a reasonable amount of time. All of these reasons were evident to my wife and I after Deck Wonders completed the initial tiling job we hired them to do. As with most home improvements, some issues don't become evident until after you pay the service provider. At that point you're either screwed because the company won't come back to look at whatever is wrong, or you'll have to shell out more of your own money to find a new contractor to correct the first contractor's mistakes. With our tiling job, we found a few issues with the transition strips between the carpet and the newly laid tile --- namely the corners on the strips were coming up. We notified Deck Wonders and they were able to come out a few days later and properly fix the transition strips at no added expense to us. What made their return visit even sweeter was that we asked Deck Wonders for a quote to install beadboard in our laundry room during this visit --- not only were they able to provide a very competitive quote but they started and finished the installation of the beadboard that afternoon! That alone left my wife and I very impressed.

I needed someone to refresh and re-design my laundry room (if you can even call what I had a room!). Patrick came over to look at the present situation and the surrounding areas. Within a very quick time, he visualized a design, analyzed the pragmatics, and suggested in a clear and reasonable fashion a possible alternative. I had had no ideas of my own, but I knew a change was necessary. I liked his ideas and his quote was reasonable, and so I decided to proceed. Patrick dove in, repurposing old materials from the minor demolition, as well as acquiring new, appropriate, and improved materials. He was creative, hard-working, conscientious, problem-solving, responsible and timely, and always excellent with his clean-up. And his skills were versatile: carpentry, painting, minor wiring and moving of light fixtures, minor plumbing and moving of plumbing fixtures. The result was fantastic aesthetically and way more comfortable than the original layout. Additionally, the surrounding areas were improved, as the flow was changed, i.e. one now loops through the laundry room area from two entrances. I am thrilled with the new space and Patrick was a pleasure to work with. It is rare to find someone of his talents, spanning from construction knowledge and hands-on home repair to final decorating vision and implementation. I highly recommend Stare's Restorations.

We live in Ashburn and Sam and his team did multiple projects at our home. The comprehensive list is painting the walls, crown molding, wainscotting, kitchen back splash, deck extension, and custom shelves in our mudroom. As you can see, his range of skills and services is all encompassing. Sam's rates are reasonable, and he is friendly, responsive, thorough, professional, and follows-up on the work till all minor errors are fixed. We are very happy that we hired him and highly recommend him. We are also glad to be his reference, get our contact info from Sam and ask for Raghu.

They did a great job remodeling my basement bathroom. A very good job. The only negative was that there was a period of days prior to the project starting where communication stopped and I was unsure if the project was still on. It was all good in the end but had me worried for a few days.

I hired Raul to replace the cabinet above my refrigerator, replace my bathroom fan, and redo the caulking around my tub. He and his helper did an excellent job with all three, within the estimated time (3 hours), and at the quoted price. Raul came to the house to provide a free estimate several days before the work was done. Raul communicated with me throughout the project to ensure that his plans would give me the results I was looking for. I was impressed by his attention to detail and his willingness to come back and install a filler piece for the cabinet when the one I purchased was too small. I highly recommend Raul and Bellacasa Handyman Services for any handyman job around the house.

How do I plan a bathroom remodeling project?

If you’re stumped on how to plan a bathroom remodeling project, it pays to hire a designer. This is especially important if you’re changing your bathroom layout in any way. Designers create contractor-friendly drawings indicating exactly where each tile and fixture will be installed, down to the light switches. This investment might cost you $300-$500 but save you significant frustration and miscommunication, while ensuring you get precisely what you want.

If you’re going to do your own design, planning a bathroom remodeling project means being organized and planning ahead. Create a general outline of what you want and the budget you have. Identify the specific fixtures, tiles, paint and vanity you prefer. Get all this organized before requesting quotes from two to three reputable general contractors. Once you find the right pro, get a written contract outlining scope of work, materials that will be used, timeframe and payment schedule. Communicate clearly about when to order your materials so they are ready and waiting by the time the contractor gets the permits. Your job from here is to communicate clearly, pay the contractor as the work progresses, and enjoy your remodel when it’s done.

Where should I start when remodeling a bathroom?

Bathroom remodeling doesn’t have to be overwhelming. Before starting a bathroom remodel it’s crucial to know what you want and have a clear understanding of your maximum budget. If you’d love all marble fixtures but have $3,000 total, you will have to compromise. Being realistic about materials and money before you even contact a contractor will have you on the road to success. Here are some simple steps to follow in the planning stages of bathroom remodeling:

  • List your remodeling priorities in order of importance (e.g., 1. New shower head, 2. Replace flooring, 3. Install recessed lighting, etc.).
  • Calculate what you can realistically afford to spend on your bathroom remodel. Identify an “all in” price — meaning the absolute maximum you’re willing to pay, as well as what you’d prefer to spend.
  • Gather ideas from Pinterest about colors and finishes.
  • Research the costs of the materials and finishes you want and begin making choices about what is and isn’t possible to fit into your budget (once labor is included). If you’d like to stay under $10,000 total, but really love a $2,000 tub, plan to downgrade in other areas.
  • Request quotes from at least three reputable general contractors, share your vision and ideal materials, and work together from there.

How long should a bathroom remodel take?

With proper planning and a good general contractor, your bathroom remodeling project doesn’t have to take forever. The construction phase of the project will always vary based on your scope of work, the square footage and the condition of your bathroom under the surface layer. Inevitably an 80-square-foot master bathroom with major changes will take longer than a 25-square-foot guest bath undergoing a minor renovation. For a smaller bathroom, a facelift — the industry term for sprucing up the surface layer (such as paint, vanity, tiles or light fixtures) but keeping the existing footprint of the space — may take five to eight working days, as long as there are no surprises like mold waiting when the old vanity comes out. A more complex bathroom remodel that revamps the shower area (customizing the plumbing, installing tile and changing the shower door), updates the flooring and cabinetry, and adds new paint and new lighting could take anywhere from one week to three weeks. A full bathroom remodel that guts the room, changing the footprint and moving the electrical wiring and plumbing lines, could take four to eight weeks or more. To keep your bathroom remodel on schedule, have your materials ordered and waiting, and don’t make any change orders once construction begins. Planning is key to keeping a bathroom remodel on schedule.

How do I remodel my bathroom?

Bathroom remodeling is made up of three general phases. The first phase is the planning and permitting phase, in which you determine exactly what you want, what materials and finishes will be used, and what the end product will look like. If you’re competent with design you can handle the planning yourself, or you may hire an interior designer to guide you. During this phase you’ll also hire a general contractor who can help execute your remodel vision, coordinating and overseeing all the subcontractors required to do the bathroom remodeling (plumbers, flooring pros, etc.). When your plan is finalized, your contractor should obtain permits for the work you want done. During this time you’ll work together to order all the materials so they’ll be ready and waiting when it’s time to start construction.

The second phase is construction. Bathroom remodeling typically starts with demolition, removing the old floors, shower and vanity to make way for the new. Delays in delivery of materials, or changing your mind and ordering different materials halfway into the project, will mean that construction has to pause until the new materials arrive. Each subcontractor is dependent on the next to do their work, and the general contractor should keep things moving along at the proper timeline, ensuring that the right materials are available and dealing promptly with any unexpected repairs, such as damage discovered behind the walls or under the floor. The general contractor will also coordinate inspections from the necessary officials if you’ve moved load-bearing walls or done electrical or plumbing work. After construction is complete, the final phase of bathroom remodeling is addressing your punch list. These are all the items that need to be corrected before final payment is handed over to the contractor.

How much does it cost to remodel a bathroom?

Nationally, the average cost of bathroom remodeling is $14,000. Bathroom remodels can vary widely, from standard makeovers to luxurious master bathroom revamps. The factors that affect your bathroom remodeling cost are the finishes you choose (marble tiles can cost 20 times as much as standard subway tiles), the square footage of the project, regional labor rates in your area and the scope of work. Changing the layout or size of the bathroom will also raise costs. Moving electrical wiring and plumbing lines will also dramatically increase costs, as you’ll need to hire plumbers and electricians to handle the work. What’s happening behind your walls and under your floor will also affect bathroom remodeling cost: Rot, damage or mold can lead to additional work and charges. Overall, bathroom remodeling may offer great return on investment and also improve your daily life. Here are some examples of average bathroom remodeling costs:

  • 6-foot by 6-foot bathroom remodel: $3,500, including labor and materials.
  • Standard renovation: $6,500-$10,000. Price includes labor and materials the customer has purchased. Labor may include taking out the shower and shower pan, installing new shower pan and shower, and installing new door, new vanity, new mirror, new bathroom fan, and all new fixtures.
    • Price variation depends on the quality of the finishes.
  • 10-foot by 6-foot bathroom remodel: $7,200, including labor and materials.
  • Mid-range renovation: $12,000-$15,000. Price includes labor and materials the customer has purchased.
  • Upscale renovation: $35,000 and up. Price includes labor and materials. Items might include digital displays for fixtures, multiple shower heads and custom showers.
