I reached out to Thumbtack on Saturday due to my tenants reporting that there was a strong gas smell when they were preheating the oven in my rental property. Kheri responded almost immediately and said he would be available to check it out the next day, Sunday. I appreciated that he was so quick to respond. He went to the house, quickly diagnosed the problem and replaced the faulty part. His rate was reasonable too. I am very pleased with his service and professionalism, and would hire him again.

Rob did an amazing job! He was on time and worked quickly and with care. He wall-mounted my boyfriend's guitar and hung a mirror and some pictures for us. He also repaired a broken kitchen cabinet and helped us replace our kitchen faucet which had a crack in it. The replacement faucet we got didn't work with our sink and Rob walked with me to the hardware store a few blocks away to exchange it for one that worked. He ended up staying an extra hour to finish switching out the faucets. Would definitely use Rob again! He's extremely skilled and pleasant to be around.

They were very responsive and came to look at my oven in less than 24 hours. The diagnosis fee was very reasonable since it usually costs more to get the manufacturer's repair people out...about 3-4 x as much. Although the diagnosis is not what I was hoping for, they were honest and fair. My oven was beyond repair.

Our gas oven was not working and Sonic came and diagnosed the problem immediately. Sonic sent Faze to do the work and he did a great job. He fixed the problem in about 20 minutes. We paid $100 for labor and $69 for the part. I strongly recommend Sonic for oven repair.

Thanks to Voyo, my oven seems to be working perfectly! It is so nice not to have to deal with that loud fan sound. This holiday, we will actually be able to listen to Christmas music when we bake cookies! Thank you!

Martin did a really great job. Our double oven went out. We hired him to check the electrical unit to make sure it was working before we purchased a new oven. The electrical unit was fine, but to our pleasant surprise Martin also is able to fix appliances. He checked the oven, and it was just the fuse! He saved us so much time and and money - our oven is working again! He was prompt and courteous. I would recommend him and would use him again. Very fair price as well!

Lassad was very professional. My water heater needed a full pilot assembly replacement and Lassad did not have the part. I was fearful that I would have to go several days without hot water but he found a part and returned same day to fix it. I also subsequently had him fix an oven issue and he gave me two options on either replacing the part or repairing. Pricing seemed high but I had no comparison and honestly for his professionalism and low visit fee, seemed quite worth it.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does refrigerator repair cost?

Refrigerator repair generally costs a fraction of the price of a new fridge and shouldhave your appliance up and running again in no time. The problems your refrigerator is experiencing and the parts required to fix it will affect your repair costs. Where you live can affect labor rates, which will raise or lower your costs. Here are some examples of average costs:

    • Diagnostic fees: $50-$100. Repair pros often have a service call fee or diagnostic fee to account for their time traveling to your location with all their tools to assess the problem. If you choose to have them repair the fridge, most pros then credit this fee toward your repair cost.
    • Parts: $20-$500. A new compressor averages $200, an icemaker $300, and computerized components such as touch screens and control boards average $300 or more.
    • Basic repairs: $180-$400, including parts. This price range can include repairing the evaporator or fan motor.

    How long do fridges last?

Refrigerators can last 10 to 20 years, although the most common lifespan is about 13 years. If your fridge is acting up, consider its current age when deciding whether to invest in repairs or buy a new one. Common easy fixes include faulty thermostats, dirty coils and clogged drain lines. Thermostats and dirty coils can be generally be fixed for an average cost of $80-$100. Clogged drain lines, which usually cause leaks, can often be fixed for under $200.

More complex refrigeration repairs such as replacing a bad compressor or replenishing low refrigerant can cost more because of expensive parts and higher labor. A new compressor costs an average of $200, not including labor. If labor is an average of $75-$100 per hour, and the repair takes 3 hours, you’re looking at roughly $500. Consider the age and purchase cost of your fridge; investing $350 in a $600 fridge that is 8 years old may not be cost-effective.
