Sarah Kiersch is a find! She is the original cat whisperer!. She is a mobile cat & dog groomer and her grooming of my long haired cat was flawless! She also has a studio where she grooms. I watched her grooming my cat and it's a lot of work! The lion cut Sarah gave her looks adorable. She clearly loves animals and knows how to calm them. And, she's a perfectionist!! Her fee is very reasonable ($80.00) and includes a dry oatmeal wash, soothing lotions, ear & teeth cleaning. I highly recommend her! ~Tybe Diamond, ibtybe@aol.com

Sarah did and exceptional job. Both my dogs were matted badly due to me putting them in a dog hotel for a month. She did a pretty decent job shaving them. No burns or cuts. Only areas for improvement I have: ear hair was largely untouched even though I asked to clean their ears.( I have no clue how groomers clean a dog's ears but my previous groomer removed them so I apologize in advance if you did clean their ears Sarah) And there's some armpit hair left. These, by no means, are complains because me and her both knew how bad their condition was I was so concerned after reading some of the reviews of other groomers, I'm glad I found her after what I got to experience. Hopefully, next grooming sessions will be easier on her since my dogs will be growing a fresh coat of hair. Thumbs up from Dunkin and Donut!

Don't let the location fool you, she is hands down the best groomer I have come across in this area. I have a long haired cat...like really long and fluffy which equals lots of shedding. After taking my cat to various groomers across the DMV, I was always left disappointed. The groomer would lack professionalism or skills resulting in a one and done. When I came across Bianca I was a bit skeptical because of previous experiences but needed my little dude groomed so I took a chance. I'm so glad I did! She is professional, communicates well, and does great work! Not to mention she is reasonably priced. I am so happy I found her and so looking forward to bringing my cat back for his next cut. Thanks Bianca!

I've been boarding my dogs at Belquest Kennel for the past 11 yrs. My dogs get very excited as soon as I turn into the Belquest Kennel driveway. They jump out of the car and beat me to the door. This tells me that they love boarding at Belquest! The staff is always professional & friendly and they do an outstanding job at grooming my Havanese. Our 14 yr. old Beagle had disk problems and they went out of their way to take special care while bathing and grooming our old boy. Belquest has a wonderful selection of dog toys, goodies & grooming tools. I find their prices to be lower than Pet Smart or some of the larger chain stores.

I felt very comfortable leaving my cats in Jill's care. One of my cats has some health issues and is on several meds and the fact that she is a Veterinary Technician was reassuring. No accidents, and both cats were happy upon our return.

"Pampered Pooch trimmed my pit bull Angels nails. It was much cheaper then the pet store and Candice did a great job with Angel. Everywhere else I take Angel to has to muzzle her and Candice did it with ease without one. I highly recommend anyone who loves their pet to take them to her. Candice is a Phenominal dog groomer who truly loves and does a great job with all breeds and animals"

Michelle is amazing! I have a finicky Persian and she was able to get her groomed even with the somersaults and Houdini moves my cat was doing. After the grooming, my cat calmed down and even let Michelle cuddle her. I'm very happy to have found her!

She has a way with dogs especially dogs who haven’t been groomed before like my 6 month old puppy brothers. Shes been our groomer from the beginning starting when they were 4 months. She’s firm but kind and she gets them to relax and comply and comfortable. I’ve actually used some of her tactics when brushing and washing them when needed on my own and it’s great. I highly recommend her!

Vanessa is amazing! My baby Jonesy had been turned away by two different groomers because of his anxiousness and she was my last hope. She made him look so handsome and he was happy as could be after leaving there. I will definitely be a returning customer!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

Do cats have to get groomed?

It’s not crazy to have your cat groomed. Grooming will keep your cat’s fur soft and silky as well as give you early warning about any health concerns. Regular grooming can also help reduce the volume of hair your cat may be shedding and keep your longhair kitty cool if you live in a warm climate. Professionals competently groom your cat and are trained to manage them if they resist being groomed, while you may get scratched doing the same task. The national average price for cat grooming is $50-$70. Pet grooming prices may vary based on the task. For example, a bath and brush for shorthair cats may be $15, $20 for medium-hair cats, and $25 for a longhair. Cat groomers can also keep your cat’s ears cleaned, trim their nails, and provide haircuts if needed. Average prices for haircuts can vary from $30 to $95 or more, depending on whether the cat is shy or aggressive and whether their coat is in good condition, matted, or otherwise difficult to groom.

How much should cat grooming cost?

Keeping your cat groomed is an important part of maintaining their good health. The national average cost for cat grooming ranges between $50 and $70, with prices varying based on where you live and the services you request. Your cat’s temperament can also affect grooming prices. Scratching and hissing during a groomer visit can raise rates an average of $5-$10, or more, as hazard pay. Larger cats and long-haired cats that take longer to groom will also usually cost more. Here are some examples of cat grooming average costs:

  • Shave down or lion cut: $35-$60. These cuts preserve the hair around the face and tip of the tail but shave down the entire body. The lion cut is often recommended for extremely matted hair is exceedingly matted, for extreme heat, or for cats who are suffering from hairballs.
  • Ear cleaning and nail trim: $30.
  • Nail trim: $10-$15.
  • Bath and nail trim: $45.
  • Bath and sanitary trim: $55. A sanitary trim clips the hair on a cat’s behind to prevent fecal matting in longhair cats or cats that have mobility issues.
  • Bath, blow-dry, brush out, nail trim and ear cleaning: $40.
  • Full haircut, bath, and nail trim: $45-$95, depending on matting.

Where can you get your cat groomed?

Cat grooming keeps your cat’s fur tangle-free and clean. Most businesses that offer dog grooming or general pet grooming also offer cat grooming; some businesses even specialize solely in cat grooming. Look for a professional who has training grooming cats or belongs to a professional association such as the National Cat Groomers Institute, because cat grooming techniques can be different than for dogs. Cat grooming can encompass a wide range of services. In addition to haircutting, hair detangling and hairstyling, cat groomers can trim cat nails, clean out your cat’s ears, give flea baths, demat, trim facial fur, bathe and even blow-dry your cat. Health safety and etiquette requires your cat to be in good health and have all their vaccinations before using grooming services.
