I find classes to be rather parochial. To be effective, you must be able to consume a greater quantity of information with greater nuance than can be delivered to you by an oral briefing. Your consultation/evaluation and instruction will be in your home. This requires about two hours. I am available days, evenings and weekends. My fee is for the initial instruction. It includes UNLIMITED coaching and support for the life of your dog plus UNLIMITED return visits so I can assure your success. At your consultation I will evaluate your dog and your training needs in order to design a CUSTOM PROTOCOL for you to follow. The instructional guided and videos I use are professionally produced by some of the most renown dog trainers and behaviorists in the world. They are proprietary and meant to be studied. I work with all breeds including working, herding and fighting breeds and dogs with strong temperaments that most trainers fear. The focus of my instruction is on 'Engagement', 'Pack Structure', Management' and Marker Training for puppies and adult dogs. If your trainer is not familiar with the concept of "Pack Structure", find one that is. All dogs need pack structure. You must learn and implement pack structure with any dog especially dogs with aggression or dominance issues or you will always have behavior problems. Your dog may love you but you need him to respect you as well. This is especially true of rescue dogs that have already learned many unwanted behaviors. Knowing how to build a relationship is essential when you are rehabilitating your dog too. These are issues that a board and train situation can't help you with. This stuff is easy when you have the right information. It just takes time and patience. Any dog training is really about you learning to be consistent. As I mentioned above, dogs learn through repetition and Marker Training is the foundation of all dog training. Engagement is the key. There are comprehensive streaming video courses available for all these subjects and many more. They include topics as far ranging as Hiking etiquette and Training to be around Horses. If you plan on using an ecollar you need the Remote collar training for the pet owner online course which is also available in DVD, streaming and course. In my opinion the remote collar is the most effective dog training tool that has been developed in the past 100 years. Without a doubt, low level stimulation training is 100 times more humane and more effective than using "CHOKE COLLAR or PRONG COLLAR." I will also teach you leash handling skills and leash pressure techniques. Leash pressure techniques and Engagement training are still virtually unknown by average pet dog trainers. I can teach you the power of playing tug with your dog. The tug becomes the obedience reward instead of a ball or treats. These are also skills and techniques unknown to novice trainers. Vets and other trainers will tell you not to play tug with your dog. What they don't know is that there is a right way and a wrong way to play tug with your dog. I am your instructor and coach. Earl Newland The thing I like most about my job are the many wonderful dogs and people I get to meet. The variety is amazing and you would be surprised to see how many great dogs are rescue dogs. I see a lot of pure bred dogs of many types and the mix breeds I see are very interesting too. I work with a lot of Pitbulls, Pitty mixes and Bully breed dogs in general from the local shelters. Most are not bred by true professional breeders rather they are from backyard breeders so the recessive negative traits they can exhibit in temperaments cause problems and require special management and handling techniques to keep them safe and everyone in general safe. Some are individuals can be quite resentful and less forgiving than other breeds because of these recessive traits. IMO I want to help rescue dogs integrate into their new families and help solve any behavior issues they bring with them to the new home. Remember, you will be rehabilitating your rescue dog at the same time as you are trying to build a relationship. It typically takes at least three months for a newly rescued dog to decompress and learn to trust a new owner. Be ready to take your time getting through this process. You can't rush it. I love helping people and their puppies get off to a good start with House breaking, Crate training and everything else that goes along with raising a puppy properly so it doesn't learn unwanted behaviors.
