I have been educated as a K-9 Instructor. I teach people to train dogs. I have been a professional K9 instructor for 35 + years and a Thumbtack TOP PRO since 2011. Training plans are not standardized. All training plans are age and dog dependent and always tailored to the individual dog. This means that my fees are adjusted to meet your needs as well. A dog does better with one trainer...YOU! This is scientific fact. I teach my clients how to properly raise and train puppies. I teach my clients how to rehabilitate and train rescue dogs. I coach my clients in Obedience and how to correct behavior problems. My goal is that you never have to hire a dog trainer again. I teach humane, cutting edge 21st century methods and techniques. Learning dog training has evolved into video and online training courses in the last few years. Are you ready to evolve? I believe that if you want a dog or a puppy you should be prepared to train it yourself. I will teach you. It's easy if you try. My service and instruction comes with a LIFE TIME of coaching and support for one low fee. This is not a class. It's an education. Some people have a hard time understanding the way learning to train a dog has evolved. Don't get stuck in the old fashioned way of learning dog training. Online or computer learning, video and interactive instruction is the professionals and competitors choice in learning dog training. I want you to be a professional too. Classes and strict schedules or board and train are severely outdated, stressful and bad for dogs and bad for your relationship with your dog. Wouldn't you rather train your dog in a stress free environment on your own schedule? I know your dog would. Dogs learn through repetition so you will have to practice what I teach you. I find classes to be rather parochial. To be effective, you must be able to consume a greater quantity of information with greater nuance than can be delivered to you by an oral briefing. Which is all a class really is. Any dog training requires patience. If you are willing to learn and do the work, I'll be with you every step of the way. Your consultation/evaluation and instruction will be in your home. This requires about two hours. I am available days, evenings and weekends. My fee is for the initial instruction. It includes UNLIMITED coaching and support for the life of your dog plus UNLIMITED return visits so I can assure your success. Plan on completing the study links you will receive with your introductory email before I arrive consisting of some short articles and videos to bring you up to date and prepare you for our appointment. At your consultation I will evaluate your dog and your training needs in order to design a CUSTOM PROTOCOL for you to follow. The instructional DVD's I use are professionally produced by some of the most renown dog trainers and behaviorists in the world. They are proprietary and meant to be studied. You won't find them on Amazon or in pet stores. All this and UNLIMITED return visits guarantee you will be successful raising your puppy or rehabilitating your new rescue dog. I work with all breeds including working, herding and fighting breeds and dogs with strong temperaments that most trainers fear. I also work with puppies and rescue's with behavior issues including aggression. Dogs with aggression and biting issues are my specialty. Call me before you take some other trainers advice to put your dog to sleep because of a biting problem. When other trainers or veterinarians tell you your dog has a mental problem call me before you accept the diagnosis or put your dog on medication. I can help. My philosophy is one of Inducement. The focus of my instruction is on 'Engagement', 'Pack Structure', Management' and Marker Training for puppies and adult dogs. If your trainer is not familiar with the concept of "Pack Structure", find one that is. All dogs need pack structure. You must learn and implement pack structure with any dog especially dogs with aggression issues or you will always have behavior problems. Your dog may love you but you need him to respect you as well. This is especially true of rescue dogs that have already learned many unwanted behaviors. Knowing how to build a relationship is essential when you are rehabilitating your dog too. These are issues that a board and train situation can't help you with. This stuff is easy when you have the right information. It just takes time and patience. Any dog training is really about you learning to be consistent. As I mentioned above, dogs learn through repetition and Marker Training is the foundation of all dog training. Engagement is the key. I will also teach you leash handling skills and leash pressure techniques. Leash pressure techniques and Engagement training are still virtually unknown by average pet dog trainers. I can teach you the power of playing tug with your dog. The tug becomes the obedience reward instead of a ball or treats. These are also skills and techniques unknown to novice trainers. Vets and other trainers will tell you not to play tug with your dog. What they don't know is that there is a right way and a wrong way. I am your instructor and coach. I was trained as an instructor. Remember, you will be rehabilitating your rescue dog at the same time as you are trying to build a relationship. It typically takes at least three months for a newly rescued dog to decompress and learn to trust a new owner. Be ready to take your time getting through this process. You can't rush it. Thanks to Earl K9 Services we will be able to take our dog on family vacation this summer instead of having to go through an expensive dog boarding facility. I have a dog who is an extremely rare breed of dog. She is a German Pinscher (not to be confused with the min pin). She has an extremely strong personality, everything she does, she gives it her all. She is a very loving and loyal dog; however, she has some issues with strangers and territorial aggression. She would not let anyone else into our home, even our friends. In our ignorance, we were trying to socialize her and keep her around when people came into our home so that she would get used to it. For this reason, we have many friends who are now terrified of her, and for good reason. It killed me to have my friends talk about how vicious my dog was and how we should not allow her around my son. I really did not want to have to re-home her or put her down, because I know for a fact that Zoe would fight to the death before she let anyone hurt me or my family. She would never bite anyone in our family, or even growl at us. She is so very loyal, and these types of dogs only have one true owner. So I know that even if I did re-home her instead of putting her down, all I would be able to think about was how she would never be the same, and neither would we. She is a member of the family. We have had many, many trainers work with her, and they all had different theories. Many told us that she would never really be safe to have around other people. I can't describe how exhausting it was to think about being on edge for the rest of her life. In effect, owning Zoe was controlling our lives. Earl was very helpful for multiple reasons, but two really stand out. The first is that he knew of Zoe's breed, and had seen her breed in action before. So the first thing he told me was that, she was not doing anything abnormal for her breed. She is a strong dog, and her breed is naturally wary of strangers and are said to be excellent watch dogs (though not many progress to the guard dog stage that Zoe thought she was at). This made me feel better because even though he saw her aggression first hand, he did not think she was vicious or bad. Earl has extensive experience with working dogs, like Zoe, and with extremely aggressive and dominant dogs. There really are not many trainers out there who truly are qualified to work with aggressive dogs, and Zoe most definitely had not been responding to the 'tree hugging' version of training that is so popular now. For most dogs, that may work fine, but Zoe had progressed to biting and needed specialized training, not out of the box training. The other thing that really helped that Earl did was explain the theory of dominance and pack structure in a way that I could understand. Of course, with a dog like Zoe, I had read a lot of material on being a pack leader and watched every Caesar Milan episode he has made, but it seemed like a lot of it was just mean, to me. Earl explained why a dog needs to know where s/he stands in the pack and that it is not all about asserting yourself in a violent way. There are many subtle and easy things that you can do to establish your rank in the house and we were doing them wrong. Things like letting her have free reign of the house instead of making that an earned reward, and allowing her on the furniture and to sleep on our bed. Just beginning to change these simple things I have seen a huge improvement with Zoe. She used to be kind of a spaz, and we thought that was just her being weird, but really it was her not knowing her place and being confused. Sometimes we were dominant, others we weren't, and we were not being consistent. Now, she is calm all the time! She has had NO problem not sleeping with us anymore (and it is fantastic to have our bed back) and she spends a lot of her time calm and sleeping in her area. She gets to go out and play when I decide, and that has been more than enough for her. I thought it was mean to keep a dog confined, that they needed the stimulation, but I can already see how much calmer and happier she is, just after a few days! We still have a lot more work to do, but I can see that Earl's approach really works and is making her happier, not making her feel unwanted. There is much, much more that we were doing wrong, but the long and short of it was that we were treating her like a person, not a dog. And with some dogs, that may never pose a problem, but with a working dog like Zoe, it definitely did. She didn't have a place, she didn't have a job, so she took on a job of her own, protecting the house. Now, it is my responsibility to take on that job and let her know she does not need to handle it. Finally, another thing that really helped me, was the amount of material that Earl gave me to peruse. I am the kind of person who likes to learn as much as I can about an approach so that I can really do it right, and Earl was able to provide that for me. I now have so many things to work on, I will have to make myself an objectives list to be sure that I touch on all the issues. The other good thing about all the reading material is that it is hard for a trainer to really see all of your dogs issues in just an hour or two, or even after a month of working with them. I live with Zoe and see all the things that she does. There were many things that she was doing to assert herself as dominant that I never realized were an issue. So now I know even more that I need to correct than what Earl saw. He, of course, saw how she reacted to strangers, but I was able to see how she was asserting herself with me. I thought she knew I was alpha because she was obedient and would listen to me (except when she didn't). She had decided that she would listen when she wanted, but that she got to decide when to obey and when not to. That is why I had so little control over her when people came to our door. All of this I got from only two days working with Earl. I appreciate all his help so far, and I intend to gain off leash control/obedience from Zoe, so watch for my call Earl! You will be hearing from me! I could write more, but I'm sure no one is interested in the life and times of Zoe; however, I think that the most important thing we will gain from this experience is MY confidence. A lot of trainers talk about the dog gaining confidence, but for me I needed to be confident of my place and ability to control Zoe. She didn't trust me to handle the situation, so she took charge. I was looking for a trainer to train me to train my service dog. The only response I got was from Earl, who is not a trainer of service animals. Earl purchased the referral because he knew someone who WAS an expert service dog trainer and he wanted to put me in touch with her. I did meet with her, and she is exactly what I need. So many times these days people will not take any kind of action to help a stranger unless they somehow benefit from it themselves. I was so touched that Ed went out of his way to help me even when it COST him rather than directly benefitted him. In addition, he told me that he would appreciate it if I would keep in touch with him so he could follow the progress of our training. Two miracles in one. I am thrilled that he helped me find the right trainer, and even more thrilled that he cares about the outcome. I told him that if my dog proves to be unfit for service work (so far she is very well suited) that I would hire him to to the kind of quality training I would want her to have anyway. I believe in doing random acts of kindness myself, and it appears that Earl does as well.

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
ALL jobs are initially priced at a flat fee of $500.00 including behavior issues. I accept cash, checks and paypal. Every situation requires a thorough evaluation. I've been doing evaluations for nearly 40 years now. I Solve Dog Problems. I run every client through Basic Training to bring them up to date with modern training philosophies and techniques and prepare for our appointment. This will take you about two hours. My COMPREHENSIVE PUPPY PROGRAM includes 2 or more DVD's. These are not 'run of the mill' instructional dvd's. You won't find them in pet stores or on Amazon. They are cutting edge, proprietary, well produced and expensive. There are no better. They are made by professionals to be studied by professionals and competitors. My PUPPY program will provide you with everything you need for the first year of your puppy's life. The first 8 weeks to 12 months is the most important time in it's life. Don't miss it. I recommend starting my program before your puppy comes home. Especially if it's your first puppy. You want everything to go smoothly to keep your relationship on a positive note from the beginning. What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

Other than that...Call me for booking questions and scheduling. I always try to schedule at your convenience. When you are scheduled I will send you an email with links to a few short articles and videos to prepare for your consultation/instruction. This will take about two hours. I call it my 'Basic Training Links' email. When we meet we will review what you've learned and customize a protocol to fit you and your dogs needs. This will be a course of action that will get you the results you need, fast and stress free. I'm available days, evenings and weekends. My clients have busy lives. What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I went to a Kansas State certified canine instructors school in 1984 that was modeled after the U.S. Army K9 Instructors school with the exact same curriculum. I was certified by this school. It no longer exists. Over the years I have participated in many sport dog training seminars to learn the latest information on dog training or overcoming problems in training. During that time I was involved in Obedience and Personal Protection for many years working for various K9 security companies and kennels. Most of these companies and kennels no longer exist. Those days are long gone. Many of my dog training gurus are gone too. The conditions in the K9 world were much different 35 years ago. No one could get the kind of experience now that I got back then. At one time I was president of a dog club and a judge. I owned a certification mark from the U.S. Patent and Trademark office. I certified dogs and trainers in skills and conformation. All ancient history now. As far as I know I have the only 1st place trophy ever won in obedience for training my old wolf dog. I don't have a conventional background in dog training by any means. Now it is much easier to keep up with the latest information because of the internet and social media. The best most authoritative dog training website is loaded with free articles and videos. I will introduce it to you. The longer more comprehensive instructional DVD's I include are great although they can get a bit pricey. They are proprietary and meant to be studied. But that is what you have to do.
