I hired Joe to remove some old lawn furniture and a few other things from our backyard. He got it done very quickly and for the amount he had quoted me. I also asked him to give me bids on a deck repair and building a bookshelf for us. Joe seemed like a very nice man with a great work ethic. He will probably get all the jobs that my honey don't do!!😉

Paul was outstanding. He took a completely gutted bathroom and turned it into a beautiful new install. He handled drywall, paint, shower installation, cabinetry, trim, plumbing, and every other facet of the install. He did an outstanding job and I'd highly recommend him. He's a perfectionist that may take longer than usual, but the end result is completely worth the wait. Thanks Paul for all of your hard work. I'll post pictures for future customers to see soon.

Dan fixed a drywall job that a previous drywall man had botched. Dan assessed the situation, gave us a price and stuck to it. The final product was professional and looked great. Dan also took the time to ensure there was no mess left behind. We would recommend him anytime.

My wife and I met with David to bid on painting the interior of our rental property. While we waited for David to finish measuring, I received a call from a contractor rescheduling a meeting to bid on interior and exterior repairs. We were on a strict time frame needing work done before painting. David gave us his bid and ask when did the work needed to be done. I explained our problem needing interior and exterior repairs done before painting. David explained that his company not only are expert painters but can do the repairs needed as well. We hired Enlite Painting to repair and paint. Enlite tiled the kitchen, bath and utility room. Widened a door way, built a mantle over the fire place, installed recessed lights, patched holes in walls and ceiling, painted the trim, walls, and ceiling. Repaired 121 feet of chain link fence, power washed the house, garage and repaired a large hole in the garage roof. We are very pleased with the price and excellent work Enlite Painting performed. The Enlite Team are professional and great to work with. We highly recommend Enlite painting. Thank you David and team. Elliott and Debbie Pannell

I am very pleased with the work performed by Mr. Hudson. He inspected the damage created by the lightening strike to my home, he was able to determine that he would be able to replace and repair the siding. He also was able to provide other sources to take care of the electrical, heating/air conditioning and appliance repair. The lightening struck in the early morning hours last Sunday and the major repairs were completed yesterday. The work was completed quickly and professionally. Linda J

We needed a hole in our celing repaired, some windows and a door framed in. Fred did an excellent job making everything match. Exceeded our expectations getting ceiling texture to blend. It required a lot of work, scraping popcorn, replacing some drywall, new texture and paint. All work looks great! Thks Fred!

Adam has a finish carpenter background but demonstrated excellent capabilities to replace 6+ eight ft cedar fence posts and to manage the repair and reinforcement of a gas line. Great knowledge, attitude, communication and work ethic. I have already hired him again to complete a number of other exterior and interior projects. Would highly recommend.

I engaged Mattoast Painting and Studio for some exterior and interior painting for my home. The work performed by Matt included some repairs and preparation, in addition to painting. The workmanship was excellent and Matt was exceptionally good about keeping me informed of status of the work. In my judgment the charge for the work was very reasonable, and the work was performed quickly. I would certainly use Mattoast Painting and Studio again and I readily recommend this quality professional.

He has replaced several windows in several of my rentals, Installed guttering, installed siding, installed roofing, properly prepared old siding and painted rental external, replaced several interior and external doors and casings. He has built cedar fencing and repaired other cedar fencing for me. As well as a lot of other small projects. Jason is a perfectionist and it shows in every project he takes on. He came in to do the job on a very short notice (holiday weekend too) and did a wonderful job! He completed the job a day ahead of projected completion date. We ended up having him hang drywall, mud & tape, and texture the ceiling. We would hire him again in a heart beat!!

After having several contractors come out for bidding our project we decided to hire Reflection Ridge to complete the siding repairs and painting of our home. Rick has been great in answering our questions and was very thorough in explaining all the aspects included in the job. His price is extremely fair and reasonable for the scope of work and we have seen nothing but positive reviews of his company. Check out his website for images and references! Scheduling was also very prompt and we anticipate the job being completed by the end of month.

They painted the outside of our home for us in 2012 and it still looks brand new. They got the job done fast and at a great price. What I like the most about Crawford's home repairs is that they are a family owned business. Mr Bobby was a very honest and reliable person aswell as his nephew. I Highly recommend them!

The attached sunroom needed outside trim to prevent further water damage to siding. Jeremy came up with cedar trim on the house and sunroom after triming back the siding. Then chalked it to keep moisture out and painted it to match house. He did a very good job and would definitely recommend him.

Their estimate was fair and reasonable. They did a very nice job with what they had to work with. The repairs were badly needed and they brought my damaged front porch back to a very neat and finished look that I am very pleased with. I also really liked Rich and Josh a lot.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much will it cost to fix a hole in the wall?

If you have a hole in your wall, don’t despair; drywall repair professionals can patch the hole and repaint the surface and no one will be the wiser. The cost to repair a drywall hole depends on the size of the surface area of the damage, the materials and labor required, and (for a minor repair) any minimum service fee the repair company may charge. The actual labor and drywall prices may be lower than the minimum service fee, but pros must ensure their business overhead costs are met when they go out on minor jobs. To help keep costs low once the pros get there, make sure you have the right paint on hand if you want them to do to a touch up after the repair is complete, so you don’t keep them wait (and charging you for their time) while you search in the garage. Here are two examples of average prices for smaller drywall repair jobs:

  • Approximate cost to repair a 5-foot crack in a wall: $125 (labor $75 and materials $50).
  • Approximate cost to repair a 3-foot ceiling crack: $150.

What is the difference between sheetrock and drywall?

People sometimes use the terms “sheetrock” and “drywall” interchangeably, but they are not exactly the same. Drywall is the industry term for prefabricated sheets of wall, while Sheetrock is the brand name of a type of drywall. Depending on what room is being built, your drywall installation pro will select different thicknesses or grades of drywall. Standard residential drywall is ½-inch thick. Garage walls adjacent to a living space are typically ⅝-inch thick and serve as a firewall. For a garage ceiling, most contractors will use firewall-grade drywall materials to keep your home as safe as possible.

Different types of drywall can be color-coded to indicate their purpose. Purple or green drywall boards are often mold-resistant (MR) and are applied where moisture tends to accumulate, such as in bathrooms and basements or behind tile backsplashes at sinks. These mold-resistant sheets have a fiberglass instead of a paper facing finish to prevent water absorption. Regular drywall is gray or white. The drywall industry is constantly adapting with technology to provide safer and more targeted materials. You can even install soundproofing drywall to help prevent noise transfer through rooms.

How much does it cost to put up drywall?

The national average cost to hire a drywall installation professional ranges $375-$1,500, depending on the job at hand and where you are in the country. Your drywall installation cost will often be lower if the professional is installing the drywall in a new construction with open access as opposed to a remodel. The square footage of the job, the amount of materials, and the labor required also determine drywall prices. According to drywall pros, materials costs can range from 15 percent to 50 percent of your total project cost, depending on the work you’re having done. Request several quotes from drywall installation companies to find the right fit for your construction project. The quotes may be based on the company’s standard cost per square foot or a calculation of the time estimated to complete the job plus the size of the job plus materials and any travel fees. For example, drywall installation for one or two standard-size rooms could cost $900-$1,500. The cost to hang and tape an outbuilding with approximately 40 drywall sheets at 75 cents per square foot could total $1,450, including 3.75 days of labor for the drywall crew.

How much does it cost to repair drywall?

The national average price range to repair drywall is $210-$300. Drywall prices can vary greatly depending on the size of the hole or crack that needs repair, the amount of materials required, and other factors. Cracks can appear at the seams in your drywall due to uncontrollable factors like your house settling or even minor earthquakes. Drywall, although sturdy, will break with enough impact, so if a dresser falls and crashes into a wall or your have a mishap hammering in nails for artwork, you could need drywall repair. Drywall repair professionals may have a minimum service fee of $100-$150 regardless of the size of the job. This ensures that their business expenses are met anytime they send their crew out to a job. Here are some additional examples of average drywall repair prices:

  • Sand and texture five wall patches: $200 (45 minutes of labor and $40 of materials).
  • Repair a 4x8 section of wall: $225 (labor $150 and materials $75).
  • Replace drywall in an entire bedroom: $1,500 (price varies depending on the number of windows, whether there’s metal trim, etc.).
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
