The subfloor in our laundry room needed repair. Joe removed the old flooring and replaced a bad joist, added bracing and supports to ensure the subfloor would be sturdy. Joe's work is excellent. He made sure that everything was exact and done right. We already have more projects and definitely will be using Joe again in the near future.

Paul does an excellent job in whatever you need him to do. His work ethic, ability, knowledge and pricing are more than fair. He strives to make the customer happy every time and he will not be satisfied with his work until you are happy. Honesty, integrity and cost make him the right person for the job. He has completed several jobs at my home and has even walked me through fixing some things on the phone. You won't find that with other contractors

I asked three handy men to bid on several jobs that I needed finished in order to put our house on the market. The jobs were: painting several rooms, ceilings, and front door, re-staining woodwork to match existing wood work, patching holes in walls, and installing transition strips. Initially, I was impressed with aWardable Maintenance because it was clear that Evan was very knowledgeable, was very quick to get back with a bid, and gave me the most reasonable bid. To date, Evan has not only completed the above jobs, but he has also completely refurbished our deck, laid a stone patio and re-grated an area below our deck for better drainage, lifted and leveled a landing in our yard, was able to take care of a plumbing crisis without having to cut a hole in our bathroom wall, relocated some sprinkler heads and serviced our sprinkler system, and he and his crew installed sub flooring and beautiful new hardwood floors throughout the main level of our house. He even added his artistic touch to our floors with a beautiful design in our entryway. As with any renovation, issues arise, and Evan has taken each one on without hesitation and the results are impressive to say the least. We have also hired Evan to clean and re-stain our play gym, trim and shape a tree and take out a tree, landscape two good size flower beds, and clean our gutters. As far as I can tell, there is nothing this guy can’t do and he does it all meticulously, and in a very timely manner. I cannot say enough about the quality of workmanship provided by aWardable Maintenance. You will not be disappointed! Should you have any questions, you can obtain my contact information from awardable Maintenance. I would be happy to talk to you!

We own and maintain multiple dwellings and have undertaken quite a few remodeling projects over the past 40+ years, so we're experienced with lots of carpenters and contractors. Dan is far and away the best contractor we've hired--no one else comes close. He's proven to be creative, extremely competent, and conscientious. He's also reasonably priced, always punctual, and reliably on schedule. As an added bonus, Dan is pleasant and easy to have around. We've used him for several major projects over the past few years, and he always makes the chaos of remodeling bearable.

David is fantastic. He did a wonderful job painting for us and restoring and staining two decks. He is very reasonably priced, responds shockingly fast to phone calls and texts, and is an all-around decent guy. He also did a follow-up to make sure that his work was quality. Hire him if you want the job done right, at a good price, and without any contractor issues.

Jared and his crew worked swiftly and professionally. The privacy fence they installed for us is very well built and I'm sure will last a long time. I appreciated Jared's interest in our project. Unlike the other contractors that I contacted, Jared didn't make me feel like our project was too small to be worth his time. I highly recommend Jared and his team.

After having several contractors come out for bidding our project we decided to hire Reflection Ridge to complete the siding repairs and painting of our home. Rick has been great in answering our questions and was very thorough in explaining all the aspects included in the job. His price is extremely fair and reasonable for the scope of work and we have seen nothing but positive reviews of his company. Check out his website for images and references! Scheduling was also very prompt and we anticipate the job being completed by the end of month.

Thane redid my bathroom. The job consisted of removing old tile, sheetrock and vanity then putting in new drywall, re-tiling, painting, new lighting and placing the new vanity. The work was done well and very quickly. He placed the toilet each night so I could stay home (it's my only bathroom). He also built a custom cabinet and recessed it into the wall to provide more storage. He was patient as I continued to come up with new requests. His rates were very fair. I'm pleased with the work and would hire him again.

Mike Hatley, General Contractor was hired through another General Contractor to install guttering on my home. He came to my house and gave me a verbal estimate. I asked him to put it in writing along with an estimated start and finish date. He efficiently presented me with an estimate along with the start and end date. He recommended the color of the guttering to match the trim on my house. He begin and completed the work within the estimated timeframe. He showed up on time prepared and ready to work many times he worked alone. I was pleased with his friendliness, professionalism, quality of work, and his work ethic. If possible, he was always willing to redo or fix something that wasn't quite right without any rebuttle. Mike also completed siding and trim work on my house and is in the process of painting my doors. He is a conscientious worker and always is concerned that the customer is satisfied. If he needed to cancel work for a day he would always call and let me know and we would reschedule. He is trustworthy and reliable. I would be happy to recommend Mike Hately, Construction Work LLC to potential customers.

Their estimate was fair and reasonable. They did a very nice job with what they had to work with. The repairs were badly needed and they brought my damaged front porch back to a very neat and finished look that I am very pleased with. I also really liked Rich and Josh a lot.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much will it cost to fix a hole in the wall?

If you have a hole in your wall, don’t despair; drywall repair professionals can patch the hole and repaint the surface and no one will be the wiser. The cost to repair a drywall hole depends on the size of the surface area of the damage, the materials and labor required, and (for a minor repair) any minimum service fee the repair company may charge. The actual labor and drywall prices may be lower than the minimum service fee, but pros must ensure their business overhead costs are met when they go out on minor jobs. To help keep costs low once the pros get there, make sure you have the right paint on hand if you want them to do to a touch up after the repair is complete, so you don’t keep them wait (and charging you for their time) while you search in the garage. Here are two examples of average prices for smaller drywall repair jobs:

    • Approximate cost to repair a 5-foot crack in a wall: $125 (labor $75 and materials $50).
    • Approximate cost to repair a 3-foot ceiling crack: $150.

What is the difference between sheetrock and drywall?

People sometimes use the terms “sheetrock” and “drywall” interchangeably, but they are not exactly the same. Drywall is the industry term for prefabricated sheets of wall, while Sheetrock is the brand name of a type of drywall. Depending on what room is being built, your drywall installation pro will select different thicknesses or grades of drywall. Standard residential drywall is ½-inch thick. Garage walls adjacent to a living space are typically ⅝-inch thick and serve as a firewall. For a garage ceiling, most contractors will use firewall-grade drywall materials to keep your home as safe as possible.

Different types of drywall can be color-coded to indicate their purpose. Purple or green drywall boards are often mold-resistant (MR) and are applied where moisture tends to accumulate, such as in bathrooms and basements or behind tile backsplashes at sinks. These mold-resistant sheets have a fiberglass instead of a paper facing finish to prevent water absorption. Regular drywall is gray or white. The drywall industry is constantly adapting with technology to provide safer and more targeted materials. You can even install soundproofing drywall to help prevent noise transfer through rooms.

How much does it cost to put up drywall?

The national average cost to hire a drywall installation professional ranges $375-$1,500, depending on the job at hand and where you are in the country. Your drywall installation cost will often be lower if the professional is installing the drywall in a new construction with open access as opposed to a remodel. The square footage of the job, the amount of materials, and the labor required also determine drywall prices. According to drywall pros, materials costs can range from 15 percent to 50 percent of your total project cost, depending on the work you’re having done. Request several quotes from drywall installation companies to find the right fit for your construction project. The quotes may be based on the company’s standard cost per square foot or a calculation of the time estimated to complete the job plus the size of the job plus materials and any travel fees. For example, drywall installation for one or two standard-size rooms could cost $900-$1,500. The cost to hang and tape an outbuilding with approximately 40 drywall sheets at 75 cents per square foot could total $1,450, including 3.75 days of labor for the drywall crew.

How much does it cost to repair drywall?

The national average price range to repair drywall is $210-$300. Drywall prices can vary greatly depending on the size of the hole or crack that needs repair, the amount of materials required, and other factors. Cracks can appear at the seams in your drywall due to uncontrollable factors like your house settling or even minor earthquakes. Drywall, although sturdy, will break with enough impact, so if a dresser falls and crashes into a wall or your have a mishap hammering in nails for artwork, you could need drywall repair. Drywall repair professionals may have a minimum service fee of $100-$150 regardless of the size of the job. This ensures that their business expenses are met anytime they send their crew out to a job. Here are some additional examples of average drywall repair prices:

    • Sand and texture five wall patches: $200 (45 minutes of labor and $40 of materials).
    • Repair a 4x8 section of wall: $225 (labor $150 and materials $75).
    • Replace drywall in an entire bedroom: $1,500 (price varies depending on the number of windows, whether there’s metal trim, etc.).
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
