FAQs
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
I started out working for Coit back in 1991. It paid my way through the University of Louisville, the whole time I was working for them, I knew deep down I could clean carpets on my own better than what they allowed me to do. When I graduated, I bought a ServiceMaster Franchise, built it up and sold it for a profit. I tried working with my degree and in other fields, but there is something about carpet cleaning that just draws me back- I guess it is the satisfaction of seeing a job well done and the look on the customers faces when they see the completed work.
- What types of customers have you worked with?
I do a lot of residential carpet cleaning. The main problem I have found out is that the customer had the carpets cleaned previously and they soiled so quickly. That is because they hired a company based on price alone and the cleaner had to cut corners going too fast and not properly rinsing the soap from the carpet. Just because a company looks and acts professional, doesn't necessarily mean they are. I've seen guys make the same mistakes day in and day out, but in their mind they think they are doing a great job- just like they were taught. I've also watch guys struggle with inferior equipment and turned a easy job into a nightmare for the customer. Consistency will always win in cleaning. Do the best you can on every job and the rest will take care of itself.
- What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
There are so many Carpet Cleaning Companies to choose from in Louisville KY. The industry is full of new comers looking for a place to practice with their portable machines. Always insist on a Steam Generating Truck Mounted Unit. The cleaning power of a truck mount unit is 10 times greater than a portable unit (which happens to be 2 times stronger than your Bissell or Rug Doctor that you can rent from Kroger). Make sure to ask the Carpet Cleaner if they leave Zero Residue and do they have specialty tools like a RotoVac or Pile lifter to restore the condition of your carpets (Most National Franchises don't have specialty tools available). Remember Equipment is everything when it comes to carpet cleaning.
