Introduction: “I’m sick of corporate America! I’d rather clean toilets and kitchen counter tops,” Laura Carr says as she the birth of her new cleaning company, Green Clean. She grew up with the love of cleaning. “It’s a sickness I’ve had since I was a little kid and continue to suffer from it,” Carr says. After graduating from Indiana University with her Bachelor’s of Science in Business Management in 2002, starting her own cleaning business began to make sense. After working eight years for corporate America – Carr recruited and interviewed people all day and tried to navigate the political climate of several Human Resources departments. When her personality failed to meet the standards of the company, she realized the corporate world did not fit into her life or her financial budget; she quit and left herself to ponder her next career move. “Friends started calling me to clean their houses and I thought, why not?” As her cleaning opportunities grew more business, she explored the new freedom of making her own hours. Soon, the idea of another corporate job fled her career options. There was only one problem with all the cleaning, “I was tired of smelling comet and I could just puke if I smelled one more bottle of lemon-scented pine sol,” Carr said. With the help of a close friend Carr gathered recipes online to start making her own cleaners. Soon, she started using her products exclusively in all the houses she cleaned and started to see the difference. “I started experimenting with making my own cleaner. I’d always suffered from allergies since moving to the Ohio valley and it seemed that anything with vinegar helped me breathe better,” Carr said. With a new line of homemade, essential cleaning products Green Clean was born in January 2010. “We’re the only cleaning company in Louisville that claims to make their own products and promise to work relentlessly to rid your home of dirt and allergens.” Carr said. The cleaning products are all made with mixtures of peppermint, lemon and lavender essential oils. Her team started to build as business increased; she now has eight extra pair of hands. Two of the ladies, Crystal Sridhar and Katie Gosser, have quit their full time jobs to clean with Carr. “We all have a passion for cleaning,” Gosser said. Green Clean doesn’t just make walls shine and floors safe enough to eat off of, a new branch of organizational duties has taken off in the past few months. Carr not only finds it fulfilling to vacuum her clients’ closets, she also finds enjoyment in going into their closets to make order where chaos made it impossible to see past the crumpled up mess of sweaters and sneakers. The unused items in the clients’ homes can be donated, or with the help of the Green Clean team they can assist clients sell them online. Green Clean makes house calls to give its potential clients free quotes and works on a flexible time schedule. Carr promises, “We’re professional, educated, and we bill you for our services so that you can use them on your taxes. There are no hidden charges and no hidden agendas.” Carr hopes to expand throughout Louisville and into Indiana in the next year. She claims to be the “greenest agency in the ‘ville” offering a cleaning service to organize homes to give clients a balanced life. FAQs

  • What types of customers have you worked with?

Deep Cleaning and Biweekly Cleaning are our most common reasons for a visit. We pay close attention to floors - vacuuming, mopping, and steaming hard wood and laminate floors - dusting objects in a room, wiping down windowsills and baseboards. Kitchens and bathrooms are thoroughly cleaned from top to bottom on each visit!

  • What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

If a clean home is important to you, be sure to find a company that has excellent references and a good checklist for their employees to follow. Too many times, we follow cleaning companies that are only interested in surface cleaning. Ask for references!
